I think that of all Steve's videos this is the most important. Holding on to the 7 does so many good things. It makes you shift your weight correctly, it synchronises your movements, it guides the club head, it allows you to swish the club after the ball not before and it's so much easier to time the throwing action.

Steve, I really have the impression that you passionately want your viewers to get better. And you understand how us struggling golfers feel and what we need to do to get away from our bad habits. Thanks again.

The figure 7 concept makes every other part of the swing: the hands, the weight shift, and the follow-through work for me. THANKS !!! Rob from Wisconsin

Steve thanks for what you’re doing. Long story short, my son is small but has to play one up from the tips. At best he was mostly fighting for a double and usually making triple . He just didn’t have the distance. We worked on your swing thoughts for a few days and something clicked. Now he’s fighting for a par and getting an easy bogey if his shots are decent. We can’t thank you enough.

Interesting with a independent arm move from the start. Ive had trouble with the figure 7 and thougt it was the move from the start. Ive tryed this today and it got much more dynamic. Thanks

This reminds me of a backhand in tennis. Don't know if this is true or not but I remember reading that Andre Agassi and Ivan Lendl, both right-hand tennis players, play golf left handed. I imagine, to them, a left handed golf swing feels similar to, and powerful like their backhand, keeping that 7 in both instances.

Right on. Other good teachers teach this. Love the different explanation.

Steve, always enjoy your videos even if I don’t fully understand some of your recommendations. This looks very much like a baseball swing, the bat staying close to parallel to the chest at impact. But how do you ‘keep the 7’, and throw from the top, as you have recommended many times? This appears, to me at least, contradictory.
@Inmotion702 жыл бұрын
The pivot advances the handle while the throw advances the clubhead around the handle.

Not sure how I missed this before but wow, this was great! And I love what you said about feeling like leaving the hands or handle at the top. Great visual idea of the throw. I assume this also means when you throw and keep the 7 the left forearm would supinate naturally as the right arm and clubhead catch up and pass the left arm?
@jgb68022 жыл бұрын
Very interesting. I never had it explained that way before, some say almost the opposite, e.g. AMG. Will definetely give it a try, as it also rhymes with my latest discovery, 'pointing and twisting' as per Golf Kinematics Japan, and both also match up somewhat with the Pete Cowen lesson with James Robinson that's currently going viral. One thing to expand upon here would be how much left arm lifting (early 45deg. a la Rezendes?) goes with it and how and when it lowers again? The start of the DS via consciously lifting up the right heel is also interesting.
@Inmotion702 жыл бұрын
Of course we only have the intent. You can see clearly that the arms will catch up some.

Steve, thank you so much for the videos and instruction , somewhat different from much of the mainstream instruction. I am somewhat confused with the mix of the “throwing” the club early to get the momentum of the club head and this video holding the “7” to well into the rotation to the left side? Can you elaborate please ?

Throw the hands not the arms. See Steve's videos on the pole drill.

Hi Mike I have watched a number of your videos and finally got a chance to take it to the range. At first I top probably 20 balls with the driver. I then tried the pitching wedge and had the same problem. So I tried to slow the swing down. I was then able to start making better contact . I kept working on the feel of the early release. Things continue to improve . I worked with my wedges for a bit and saw more improvement. I went back to the driver had a few more tops but again I slowed down the swing and was able to start making better contact. I did see some distance increases with the irons and a little bit with the driver. It was the accuracy that impressed me the most. As long as I could get the body to move first the shot were straight or a little draw. All in all it took about 300 balls to feel somewhat comfortable with these changes with two chipping practices in between. It will take a little more time but I like what I see so far. By the way I am almost 70 with bad knees and long standing case of whiplash for the past 6 years was driving it 230 in the air.

Steve, I’ve gone back and watched the swing you just demonstrated here as well as Mike’s swing in several videos, and none of them keep the lead arm pinned like you’re advocating, Data from GEARS on the best players (including Dustin Johnson) also show that the lead arm does come down and across versus remaining “pinned” to the chest. Just curious as to what data or other information (besides Mike’s feelings of what he did in the swing) you’re basing this idea on. Thanks!
@Inmotion702 жыл бұрын
Yes this is true. The arms will fall faster than the chest turns in reality, but the feeling and the intent is what's important here. Most golfers need to feel much more of this action.

How to put this together with the right side throwing. For me, it’s either one or the other, but both can’t exist together.

The pivot advances the 7 while the right side throws sidearm. :)

Hope you are still responding to these videos that are a few months old, I worked on this yesterday and absolutely crushed the ball pinning this arm to my peck and lagging it into impact, Today I tried to incorporate the throw from the top and could not make it work, I am certain I am incorporating something wrong but looking for some perspective on it.
@Inmotion702 жыл бұрын
Nice work! You were probably already throwing it correctly when you were crushing the ball so don't overcomplicate it!

Steve - love your videos... is the hula hoop shifting off plane (parallel to target line) when you wind-back (into out plane)? I've been trying to keep the hula hoop on the same plane with frustrating results.
@Inmotion702 жыл бұрын
This is different because the hoop is attached to my neck. In your example, the base of my neck would be in the center of the circle.
