Love the little moments when you hear those heavier footsteps of people passing in the hall to turn in for the night. Really just gives great sense of perspective. By the way, this feeling you feel, or rather the feeling that this situation gives you while listening to this, is called “midding”. And it’s one of my favorite feelings. Midding: v. intr. feeling the tranquil pleasure of being near a gathering but not quite in it-hovering on the perimeter of a campfire, chatting outside a party while others dance inside, resting your head in the backseat of a car listening to your friends chatting up front-feeling blissfully invisible yet still fully included, safe in the knowledge that everyone is together and everyone is okay, with all the thrill of being there without the burden of having to be. And huge love to the people in the comments giving their creative backstories to this. It really allows you to open your mind to imagination.❤️

I tossed. I turned. I flipped around the bed as I was trying to get some sleep for the night. Sadly, that sleep never came at the moment. Everyone downstairs, including my party, were having a good time celebrating in courtesy of a royal Princess's reward for defeating the Bone General, which is was harder than we thought but we pushed on. Then there is me. The serious one of the group. ...Lords above, grant me the keys to express my emotions because tonight, I have to be with the team downstairs. Getting off my bed and approached the door, I then pray for the lords above to give high tolerance for alcohol. I opened the door.

"Cheers." The barkeep nodded, setting the key in front of her. She sat and watched the tavern patrons as she slowly drained her ale. When she finished, she set the mug down and grabbed the key, trudging up the stairs to her room. She took off her armor and collapsed on the bed, listening to the people downstairs until she fell asleep.
