I really like this song but there's something that's bothering me: I was wondering why the lyrics says "Where I don't convolute" even though the versions of the truth are already convoluted (a.k.a. twisted up). Hey Elena! Thanks so much for listening to the song and for that great question! With that lyric, I really wanted to convey a deeper sense of the confusion I've been wrestling with. I wanted to communicated that my basis for truth was skewed from the beginning only adding to the "mess". The way that the words "convolute" and "twisted up" play off of each other is certainly repetative, but it was an intentional creative effort to reinforce the repetitive and cyclical nature of this confusion! I hope that makes a little bit of sense! :)

The first draft was called "First Place". I wrote that song initially and ended up reworking it until eventually Innocent was written! I remember getting ready to release "First Place" and just thinking that there was something else I was trying to say. I went into my room, wrote Innocent, and the rest is history!
