Excellent Tutorial! I finally was able to make a dynamic spring in my assembly. Cheers!

This is awesome tutorial. You made it look so simple and interesting. And believe me, this helped me big time.

Peder, if you want a default view for the spring, you would need to set it into the length you wanted, and then right click on the component, and select “List external references”, you can then break the reference which will stop the spring updating if you move the assembly. Hope that helps

What were the mates used on the spring while adding to the assembly? Thank you

Thanks for the video! Is there anyway to make a default state for the spring for an exploded view?

great tutorial but how do you link the helix length to the sketched line if you define the helix with variable pitch? Double clicking the helix doesn't show the overall length so can't be linked to the reference dimn of the line. Using variable pitch gives a better looking spring with closed & ground ends.

Is it possible to animate the spring without having to rebuild the assembly every time?

Does this work for a variable pitch helix?

idk how quickly you guys reply, or if you even pay attention to this video anymore, but I have a problem with my spring. I could've sworn it was changing length when it was still just a line, but when I'd finished building the spring & rebuilt the assembly, the spring & line were just moving up & down-not changing length at all. Is it because the line was created using 2 points on 2 different sketches? The faces that the spring is supposed to push on are rings, not circles; there's a hole thru the middle of both. Or is it because when I went to add a dimension to the line, it did not over define the part; it didn't ask me to "leave it driven." I tried right-clicking the dimension afterward & selecting "driven" in the pop-up, but I can't tell if that did anything. I only have until 2pm today to finish this stupid thing, & I'm getting really concerned that I just can't make the spring work.

OMG NVM I DID IT SOMEHOW OH MY FRICKIN' CHEESE the line just wasn't actually attached to anything on the one end

everytime i refresh the component comes back to the Spring/Line the line doesnt change :/

had the same problem, the line that defines the length must be a separate part, from the spring, in the assembly.

robofia seven Wait, how do I do that then? I think I have the same problem.

@@theonlyunicorncheese yeah create a part with just one sketch(one line)
