Think about using microbial fertilizers, particularly Bacilus subtilis bacteria and Trichoderma micorhyza. They suppress diseases and increase the growth by increasing absorption of nutrients and production of hormones.Root crops are particularly known to have high amount of endoscopic symbionts and increase the growth by bacterial fertilizers. Plus you can get "Organic" crop which usually worth double the conventional. The other idea might be growing them under the canopy of other fruit/timber existing trees.

Hydroponic ginseng is possible. It is very difficult and requires a extremely controlled greenhouse with an incredible hydroponics system. It also cuts the harvest time down dramatically around 2 years if you use rooted cuttings. You also need to pull the plants the first year of growth store them in a large freezer and replant again for the second year after 14 weeks of dormancy. Gives you the same size root as a 6 year old soil grown. Proper harvesting and drying techniques are crucial not like this guy is harvesting them. The demand is HUGE! The prices will surpass gold prices in the very near future. The rare wild Chinese almost extinct ginseng can fetch up to $5000.00 a OZ. yes I said OUNCE. A hydroponic operation would cost into the millions to develop. Plus loss of getting the whole thing dialed in for success.

+HIGROWMEDICINAL Sorry for responding to such an old post, but you are the only person I have seen with information on the subject. Would it be possible to grow ginseng inside using soil and lights? If so would it still be as expensive as hydroponics?
@TruCanna19 жыл бұрын
it would be very expensive. Your on going cost until harvest would be huge. Your talking 6 years minimum until you harvest with soil ginseng. You would need a massive space to make it profitable and a small fortune to keep it running.

Anyone ever try bale farming with ginseng? Since it's above ground, I was thinking it might be a way of working the same land but without the disease contamination.

How does wild Ginseng keep growing if it poisons its on dirt its growing from.
@InnovationOxford9 жыл бұрын
"Poisoning" is a bit of an overstatement. It survives what it grows in but for whatever reason, it can only have one planting that takes four years to grow. Then a totally different crop must be planted. Needless to say, there's a lot of research going into finding a solution to this challenge.
@kwxj61b9 жыл бұрын
vqfive It doesn't poison the ground...it's just that ginseng will suck up the ground nutrients.
@wcgems9 жыл бұрын
WHAT? Poisons the ground and cant replant ginseng? Then why is it that you MUST replace the seeds in the wild so that new plants grown? Because it DOESNT "poison" the ground. I'd say in a FARM setting its due to the ginseng pulling most of the calcium from the soil and other crops dont require the calcium that ginseng does. And since you are planting so MUCH of it in a small area but in the WILD there is still enough calcium to sustain regrowth.

wcgems It seems that everyone picked up on this comment. When someone is trying to exploit the land and not farm it, that is the type of silly thing they would say.
@VideoMenu9 жыл бұрын
+wcgems - THANK you for asking that. I read it in another document online yesterday... a very thorough doc about ginseng growing saying you can grow it once in 50 years on the same land. And I'm like "Well WTF are wild-sim people looking for wild lands where ginseng is already growing?!"
@VideoMenu9 жыл бұрын
+mrsillywalk - I agree. In my thoughts learning about growing, my mind is thinking "OK, so the lands are full of calcium and likes a low-ish pH. That tells me to recreate conditions in order to sustain ongoing growing." Then I read nincompoops who deplete their dirt for one round and say "That's it!" It's shortsighted methods like that that created the dust-bowl.
@VideoMenu9 жыл бұрын
By the way, and this idea of wild-sim and you go into your woods and pick out all the good plants that are indicators that ginseng will grow there, and then you till it in rows... that's just wrecking the mycorrhizae and removing all the reasons ginseng grows there. We gotta put more thought into these things rather than just following directions step-by-step "Cuz it'll make me rich!" Silly people.

They must use a lot of fertilizer. My 8 year old ginseng that is grown in the flower pot (in NYC,..check my video also....lol) is only 1/3 of the their size. They should test the flower pot method where it's hang above the ground. It'll double the output.

+SolidGoldShows If I understand the comment, then no, it really takes at least three years before harvest. Four years of waiting depending on the variety.

nature growth is very important to its value of the Ginseng, if twenty years that will be very valuable

+InnovationOxford i believe he's talking about how often he gets a profit from a crop. every year you start a new crop and harvest one, keeping the cash flowing. meaning he's not waiting 4 years to get paid.

wonder if this is something you could grow indoors in a multy level building. Cover a concrete floor with dirt and straw, then wash or haul the dirt away after the harvest and lay down fresh dirt. No need to find a new field to grow in
