The process is different now: I tried downloading as per your instructions that are similar to other videos on this method. I received my P3 yesterday and went to DJI.com for the download. The only download for the P3 Standard is a how to PDF file, no bin file. Everything is done with the DJI GO app. You have to turn on your aircraft, controller, then pair it with your device. You do have to switch WIFI 3 times per the on screen instructions. The DJI GO app updates the aircraft and the controller. Surprisingly, the update was SUCCESSFUL and only took 15 minutes.

Good video. For those who may be having trouble updating the controller. Model GL300A (back of remote) and it says "RC requires upgrade" you need to upgrade the controller to V1.3.20. Once this is done, you can upgrade the controller via the app. (Be sure your app is updated)

its the best tutorial ever i dont have USB type card reader so this tutorial has solved that issue i wonder why no one else ever tried to share this, as most seasoned RC quad copter channel owners used to say in their reviews "the micro usb port is there for some future use" :) thanks guys ... great video, clear and concise, so I followed the instructions in parallel with the official ones. However I can't update the aircraft (RC no problem). All it does is give me a constant red light on the gimbal (after initial green, red/green lights and bleeps) and quick flashing yellows on two arms Results show "failure" on the card. Camera shows no image on iPad (but can rotate and show exposure changes) otherwise connection ok, able to fly, or at least take off and land. This is brand new. The reason I updated was because there was no connection whatsoever with the aircraft either from computer or RC when it came out of the box. This is very frustrating. Can't connect yet with DJI. Tried another card, formatting, and many other things. Are you familiar with this problem?

I dont have an adapter for the SD card, so i just move the bin file onto the SD card when i have the phantom plugged into the PC. Updates just fine.

Hi, I just got the phantom 3 professional and I have successfully updated the firmware of the P3 but I just cant put the remote on updating mode, I've tried all three different methods and I cant get the blue light to come on, any help would be greatly appreciated...

BTW, the PDF file also has instructions on how to upgrade old aircraft and controllers. There are 11 pages of instructions for new and old units, standards, advanced, Inspires, etc.

I have been trying to set the MC on my iPhone to max distance and it won't stay at what I set it at. Overtime I set it, I then X top right corner. Then go back to check it and it's set back at the default of 30M. Very frustrating. Can you please tell me how to properly set this? I must be doing something wrong but I cannot figure out what it is. Thank you,

this is a great tutorial. The only thing that confused me was the third process since first two did not work for me. When you described it, I don't see anything on what to look for. The light on remote is green, the drone beeps but when is it done? lol

They changed it apparently so that you do it through the app. When you launch the app, it prompts, tell you that you need the update (if you do) and then says "download". It downloads, installs, then finishes by asking if you then want to delete that install file (no need to keep it then). Worked like a champ. Good luck!

By the way, the indication would be that you have the new controls available with the orbit, follow me, etc. Note, that you will NOT see them available until you lift in the air, then switch the front left toggle to I think P (what ever is the left side since I am not physically looking at mine right now). You will then see the additional features dialogue pop up on the app.

I too tried the third method (direct link from camera to controller with the cord provided) and the quad stated with two beeps, then went down to 1 beep but no blue light on controller - only steady green (?) - is this normal?

I keep getting an error message when trying to take off. Before I take off it asks me to confirm and check two boxes to unlock the zone im in. Once I do that I get a error message saying "Upload Unlock Information Failed. Unknown Error. Error ID (411)" Im pretty sure everything is up to date as far as firmware is concerned and I went online to check to see if im in a restricted area and Im not. The area im in is neither green or yellow. just totally blank. Have you seen this error before or maybe know what it is?

i had follow all the steps. and i had use different sd cards. nothing seems to be working for me. i had vision sometime, but now i can't, is asking me for the firmware update. i can't get no video feed on my tablet. the camera works at the very beginning when i start the drone. and yes i had video before it started asking me for the update. i need help please. :(

Are firmware updates only needed for the Adv and Prof? I have a standard Phantom 3 and when I go to DJI's website under downloads for the standard, there are no firmware updates.

you have to update via app - if you have a GL 300B remote control model - dji never shown this. you find your version of controller at the back

why'd you cut off a 3rd way of updating the rc? what is a led pattern for the latest way to update RC???? First 2 ways don't work in my case led just doesn't turn to blue...

hey, yeah it's simpler than I thought - you gotta just wait with SD card inserted (with a firmware on it) for a while (about 20-30 minutes) , it will be beeping pretty hard and LOUD during that time. So I left it in a basement for that time :). After it shut up - it's done and you can use it.

again, thanks for the nice video that doesnt start with some dude saying. "hey guys"....I hope the below will save someone time. Phantom 3 Pro - purchased via Amazon May 25, 2016. SUMMARY….just follow this to update the aircraft. Then update the remote with the app!!! Here is how I found this out…. With Bin file on SD, inserted and followed this method on aircraft. It was making noises and the “wing” lights where flashing a lot. Then sometimes stopped and restarted. From reading the DJI instructions on firmware updates, I found that if the little LED on the gimbal (camera indicator status) is alternating green and red, its still doing the update. I’d say it took about 15 minutes !!! Finally turned solid green (video shows no light). I took out the SD and checked the text file on computer and saw SUCCESS. Oh, the text file it created is dated Dec 31, 2013. That’s bizarre! (wonder is there is a way to set date on aircraft?) Then tried method 2 for updating the remote (I don’t have an SD card to USB with me). Nothing happened. Left light green and all four white lights solid. After about 5 minutes, it started beeping. After about another 3 minutes, remote turned off. No blue light. Note: I had earlier done the remote firmware update via the app on the Iphone….so maybe that is what it didn’t work. Note that I did this after the first day of successful test flights and then today, app said remote firmware needed to be updated.!!?? Why. And then had communication errors still after doing this three time !%!#^%#@. Read a forum that the aircraft would need to be updated as well….DJI guys…the app should say this too! So tried method 3…direct connect cord to the updated aircraft. Camera indicator on gimbal flashing red. Aircraft steady “beep” (more like a little squawk) about every second. After about 10 minutes, I finally shut off both remote and aircraft as this didn’t seem to work. I went out and did a test flight….after required calibration (follow directions on APP), and it flew fine with no errors….SO THE APP UPDATE OF FIRMWARE earlier today worked. Just needed this firmware update on the aircraft.
