On the 'fit and forget' comment - I would suggest maybe not ENTIRELY forget :). I went to download some footage from my old car dashcam a few months back, after an 'incident' , only to find the video was completely corrupted. Even after factory resetting the camera and reformatting the memory card, the video was utterly useless. So maybe check it once a week or two weeks? Otherwise you might find you don't have any footage, just when you need it most! The slow transfer over wifi is usually because the wifi is using the 2.4Ghz frequency. Some more recent systems are using the faster 5Ghz frequency but it's not widespread yet. So, as you say, just pop the memory card out and stick it into your computer and copy it off that way.

I've had the K2 fitted to my RT for a couple of years and 18 months on the 900XR and can thoroughly recommend these units. Some thoughts however beyond the valid comments already made: 1) If you have CANbus you need to be careful not to site the GPS module too close to a controller that may emit radio frequency interference. This was certainly the case using a Denali controller for me. 2) Do make sure that the DVR edge is well away from any close obstructing area that will allow you to easily extract the SD card. This is already more fiddly then it should be with the card being fairly recessed. 3) Under Police and Criminal Evidence (PACE), police can ask for your SD card if it is believed you have captured say a collision even though it may not related to any offence you have caused such as speeding. They can also similarly ask for your precious phone should you be recording - not a lot of people know that! 4) On my less weather-shielded F900XR I find that during Winter riding the camera lenses need cleaning after every ride so not quite fit and forget. I've had two SD cards fail on me despite being from a manufacturer Innovv recommend (Integral) but like TeapotOne have not found problems yet with high spec Sandisc. But be warned, high speed (re)writing is not what most cards are designed for. For this reason, I would highly recommend you regularly check your cards as there will be no warning of a card failure and you might depend on it...

I had a single camera system and recently upgraded to a 2 camera system (Not the Innov though as I had problems with an earlier Innov I bought in 2016). For the rear another great place to put the camera on a GS is on top of the rear light. Remove the rack and you can unmount the rear light and feed the wire between the back of the light and the silver seat body. Personally as I'm a reasonably responsible rider and for me the positives far outweigh any negatives and if you are involved in a no fault accident more people WILL lie if they think they can get away with it than fess up and admit liability and if it's a case of he said she said even if you were in the right then your insurance company will go knock for knock. If on the other hand if the other party lies the dashcam evidence will blow their story out of the water and you'll win, case closed. To me this is especially important for bikers as we stand more chance of being seriously injured and ruining our kit so being able to prove it's not your fault can have far reaching financial consequences going forward. If you haven't already guessed I'm a fan! But if you ride the Sunday morning local round of the BSB championships then they may not be for you.

@stanpeverley4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I saw that video too think if it’s “in” a vehicle then it can be seized, if it’s person mounted then not. As I understand it form the 44teeth video also it’s near impossible for a go pro camera footage to be used to prosecute you for speeding. As it needs to be an absolute offence (date time location etc) this type though and dash cams in general give all that info.

From the traffic chaos I’ve spoken to, they’ll take your helmet camera if they think it may have any evidence on it - same as they’ll take your phone if they suspect you of an offence and think there’s evidence on that. The police can and will use any camera evidence - the footage not be able to single handedly prove you’re guilty of an offence, but it can build up a picture of the manner of your riding prior to the incident taking place

I've got one fitted to my track bike. It's actually a really good solution for track days because you never need to think about it once it's fitted and working. You need to be careful where you place stuff though, the power supply and the control unit are pretty sensitive to heat. I had to move my power supply because it was getting too hot. Great vid. The part about the police seizing your footage....... As far as I'm aware, and I was, until recently, a licensed CCTV operator, can only be done with "A valid reason". I.e. "We believe your footage may show evidence of an offence, commited at (approx time/date), in the location of.........." It cannot be seized, 'just to have a look'. I may be wrong, do please check for yourselves. Grumps.

@@teapotone thanks for confirming that. I've heard of (but not witnessed), cases of cameras being seized without valid reason! Not good and not legal i believe.

It’s not that ‘they feel like it’ bud, they have to have reasonable grounds to suspect it. You may not agree with those grounds, but that’s for the officers to justify in their notes and in court should it go that far

One of your best,👍🏻. If you have more than one bike I suppose a helmet mounted system like Techalogic on NN's could perhaps be a better solution, any chance of reviewing one of these or similar. Unless the lenses on the cameras of the K2 are behind a screen how do you stop them getting covered in winter road salt/crud making the footage useless. I only commute 15 miles and in winter I have to constantly clean both front and rear lights. The K2 looks great on your reviews & a no brainer if 4x4 Mum knocks you off. Ask Nippy if you can compare the Techalogic?

IINOOV Uk also deal with the Techalogic so I may well be getting one to try at some point. Regarding keeping the lenses clean, I just give them a wipe every time I clean my helmet visor and GoPro lenses - takes seconds

With regards to your comment about police seizing video footage. You are both wrong and right! The police can seize video footage from a camera fixed to a vehicle in regards to a traffic offence. However they cannot seize footage from a camera on your person eg a go-pro on a helmet. For that they will need a search warrant.

@@garyhewson7091 - Yes, PACE covers any offence, it is specific to certain offences for stop and search, (also covered by the Misuse of drugs act in obvious circumstances) but for actual seizure of evidence its any offence. In reality it would only be used for serious offence; dangerous driving, causing death etc but it could be for speeding. You could refuse to hand it over which may lead to other offences. The term 'search' by me may have been misleading.

I see you have all kinds of cameras hanging off your bike. That’s cool but that’s not me. I want to have hidden cameras half the time I don’t wear helmet. And I definitely don’t want one of those GoPro things

OK, you're Scottish but *_frozen_* Yorkshire Puddings. 😡😮🙁 Definitely unimpressed. They take minutes to make.

Frozen Yorkshire Puddings; my estimation of the state of the mother country has plummeted. Shame! Shame!

Far too expensive for my tastes. All the gps tracking stuff is a bit pointless, as my phone can do all that for me. I bought a cheap Chinese version of this a couple of years ago, just 2 cameras and a small screen (which I just keep under the seat). The footage isn't top quality, but is adequate enough as a dashcam.
