@@baconoverlord7982 Because it totally makes sense for riders to spend 600+ on a helmet hud instead of 50-80 on just securely mounting your phone to your handlebar. You can get mounts that put it well within your field of vision so you don’t have to look away from the road. And that is only one example from the video. Having a job has nothing to do with it, it’s a complete and utter waste of money. Even if you added all the fancy hands free Bluetooth and other features to that phone mount package with a cardo it’d still be half the price and be equally viable.

Crash helmet that is of a higher standard than the one you need with a good quality visor that doesn’t scratch when you sneeze on it. 5. Tubeless tyres. Pay more for your tyres to get the best, cheap tyres are stupid. 6. Engine protection 8. Luggage 9. Can of tyre inflator and repair inserts for tubeless tyres 10. Optimate battery trickle charger 11. Satnav for showing what the speed limit is so that you can answer the policeman’s inevitable question with some accuracy when stopped. The alarm and lock is a no brainer. Alarms tend to be very good or rubbish in my experience with the worst ones sometimes being the more expensive ones as they do more than what’s required and drain the battery. 12. Yup. LIGHTS and Stuff to make you VISIBLE are Definitely THE most important thing. I got into a bike accident over 30 years ago from an idiot unlicensed driver taking daddies car out for a joyride and blew through a stop sign at 40mph. Still have back muscle cramps from it to this day despite working out, stretching, massage therapy, etc. As a drive I've seen how small bikes are even when close. Today I ride my Ebike and I have six headlights, two tail lights with one fast flasher on and numerous large pieces of reflective tape on the front forks, rear and side frames of my ebike., I wear a DayGlo reflective vest, helmet and gloves and I hit the horn for everything and of course ALWAYS ASSUME a driver does NOT see you. Hell I've had drivers coming right at me even while flashing my high beam right at then and hitting my Loud 120DB motorcycle 12v Horn I adapted for my ebike and STILL they barely swerved 7 feet from me. People are just MENTALLY looking for BIG objects like Cars and even with Dayglo stuff, Bright LED lights, etc... you still have to constantly watch out.. though I've found that people overall now give me a WIDE birth when I'm passing. In fact many are Afraid to pass me even when I'm hugging the curb on my bike until I Wave them past. If I ever get another Motorcycle I'd jazz it up the Same way with MORE lights, Reflective tape all over and wear my Dayglo colors, Body armor etc.. If I had Armor back in the day My Back would be fine right now.

If you have to deploy your airbag jacket numerous times ---- you better sell the motorcycle or go to a proper certified motorcycle safety school : ) The stem mount for a phone is dangerous. The time you spend looking down at a phone can be long enough for you to crash into something. Plan your route and put the phone away in your backpack.

@@kings8217 oh yeah its a good tool for thieves too, for sure. Nothing can protect your bike if the thief has enough time, no matter how secure it is. Just locking front is bypassed in seconds, no need for a van a simple tool is enough.

Not so, it requires a pretty stiff pull. I own the Turtle II vest by Helite (£450), and I've forgotten the tether a few times, never had it go off. I tested it (cost me £25 for the new air cannister) with a strong pull and it went off perfectly, it is a fantastic piece of kit and I recommend one for every rider.

If you hardwire the camera to the battery it isn't going to turn on and off with your ignition. It will actually stay on. You'd have to splice it in to the ignition in the harness to get it to come on with the key.
@lolwut43503 жыл бұрын
I would not splice into the ignition. Bad idea. Mess that wire you're in trouble. Instead use a powered relay and tap into the rear break light power wire, so when the bike powers the light (aka ON) then the device is powered.

In terms of safety features, having a "dash" cam and airbag is great! But they are expensive. If you can afford it, maybe think about getting one. Stay safe!

The jury is out for me on an airbag. I have been riding since the early 80's crashed many times (enough to loose count). At least 3 times over 100 mph (on a racetrack). No such thing as an air bag back then, pretty thin 2nd or maybe 3rd hand Bates leathers with no armor for the first crash. And for the second another thin set of Vanson leathers. The crashes consumed those thin leathers but not my skin! And the for the third fast crash a much thicker set of Z Custom leathers with armor and a back protector for the third. I have also had numerous street crashes including being rear ended on the freeway at 55 MPH (wearing jeans and a nylon jacket, not even a scratch . . a miracle . . actually I think I surfed the bike for a bit and rolled out of it to stop on my feet). They say off-road is safer . . guess again . . no rules out there, in the dirt I had a head on collision (me on a 2000 CR250) with a VW dune buggy both going 45 mph at impact. . . . Ouch! but no broken bones ever. But I can say with the back protector on the 100 mph crash, and this is the original Dainese protector, so anything on the market now is better than that. With that protector it was downright comfy sliding along up and over turn 6 at Willow Springs. I have never been injured in the area that the airbag covers . . . except maybe with the head-on with the dune buggy it would have worked nice there. . . but so did the cheapest chest-back-roost protector from cyclegear (nothing broken despite ejecting and flying 30 feet onto my head / back . . u but it did hurt really bad!). Leather was enough for all my road crashes (std mx gear for the dirt crash). . . . That doesn't mean it can't happen a different way next time for me or completely different for you . . . but once I'm on the ground I have my techniques and tendencies so I am willing to take that risk with the equipment I have since it has served me well and has been fully tested. I have hit my head hard enough to see static and have demolished numerous sets of gloves so I tend to make sure those bases are covered with the best I can get my hands on. That and protect your extremities that can flail around and slap the ground hard . . .hands, knees, elbows and feet . . . at least that's what gets torn up on me nearly every time I crash . . No airbag helmet, gloves, knee, elbow or ankle protection yet. . . . which is why the jury is out for me.

Great video showing all sorts of gadgets for your bike if that’s your thing, I run the Garmin Zumo on my Super Tenere. It also has the tyre pressure monitor function in it but you do have to buy the sensors separately. Just a point of interest, if you hard wire your camera directly to the battery as indicated in the video it won’t turn on and off with the ignition. Thanks for showing what’s out there.

Ban all these gizmo's especially sat- nav, music, even intercom...you need every ounce of concentration to ride a bike these days to avoid the selfish idiots on the roads....one spit second of using these 'accessories" could find you serious trouble ... Sat-nav...buy a map, plan a route, stop and check if necessary, Music..the engines the music, how can you hear a problem with music blaring in your ears....Intercom...talk to her / him when you get off for a break.... I know I'll get slatted for this, but I'm still riding after 55 years without any of this crap....
@quatron---3 жыл бұрын
Wont slate u for it. To each their own really. But arguably a satnav with bluetooth audio in the helmet is safer then a map. U wont have to look down at the map on your tank, u just get a message in your helmet to turn right/left. And even if u look at the satnav u instantly know where u are instead of having to look for it.

Totally agree, it seems the only thing missing these days is aircon and an ashtray.
@kevinoconnor29213 жыл бұрын
Sorry Quantron. Your idea does NOT hold any water. If you look at your map before you put it in 1st gear, and understand the route, there is NO need for GPS/SAT/NAV. I've ridden all over the U.S. without GPS/SAT/NAV, and never looked at a map while riding, and never got lost. B sides, you are on a motorcycle. If you require all of this technology, may I suggest something with 4 wheels.
