@@Clos-wx1mv Well, I haven't tried any others but this one has lastet me 3-4 years and I use it pretty often to make stencils for spray painting or airbrushing. The software is annoying as you have to be connected to the internet for it to work but apart from that I am happy with it.

Thanks mate! Glad you liked it. They are impressive machines considering the detail they can get as well and all the different materials. My only issue with it is the software is always updating and they don't allow you to use the machine unless your online which I think is a bit weird.

Well I bought my cricut explore air 2 a couple of years ago and its still going strong. I use it for cutting stencils mostly from 220gsm paper or thin mylar sheets. The only limitation is the cutting size if you want to make really large stencils and the software can be a bit annoying as they like to release updates quite often which it seems you can't avoid. I would recommend taking a look to see whats available in your area and if your lucky you can pick up a bargain!

Overlapping is the best way as you don't get gaps between your colors if you don't line them up properly so it is mush easier. The majority of stencil artists paint this way.

hi there great video i have wondered how you stuck the paper down to the cricket cutter board as there is no adhesive on the paper and it seams that when you put the paper on the board and pressed on it it seamed to stick

Hey Joey, glad to hear you enjoyed the video! The cricut machine can definetly create some awesome stuff with a bit of creativity. If your planning on going big though I would consider something else though. I did try a 4 foot stencil and it was a pain to piece it together. I am actually working on script for photoshop that does all the hard work for you just like this website. Cricut now makes a large format machine (Cricut “Venture”). Handles materials 2 ft wide x any length (roll stock or sheet). Likely focused on stencil market and commercial artists. Not cheap so start smaller, decide if it’s your thing.

Hey man, I don’t know if you will even respond to this but I have one issue that maybe you can help me with. When I load in my layers, they are contorted and don’t match up with the previous layers, like one section is higher than the other for instance. And so they look all wonky, but this only happens when I load them in cri it design space.

They are all pretty good and I have an older model explore air 2 which has lasted me a few years and still going strong. Stencils are usually cut from mylar or thick paper so you certainly don't need a top of the range model.

How would this work if you wanted to do a silhouette of the image first, and then add the layers on top of it to make the colors pop. I was playing with the site last night and it only separated the colors and not the entire image for a silhouette cutout.

Thats a good point and this method does have a few limitations as you've just pointed out. That website won't give you the option to create a silhouette. This month I'm working on creating 12 layer full colour stencil artwork in Inkscape which gives you alot more options for adjustment and control. This video will be out in a week from now and what I do in the video is start with the darkest colours and work my way to the brightest in order to get them to pop.

Thank you for checking out my video! Your svg should come in with the layers seperated but if it doesn't then click the 'unweld' button and that should separate everything. Then find the layer with the background and delete it. Be sure to click the 'weld' button before cutting or the cricut software does some weird things if you don't.

In this video I used Ironlak Sugar spray cans as its a local company, in my latest video I use Loop spray cans which are also good and have a better colour range. I'd use what ever is available to you locally and has lots of colours to choose from but isn't too expensive.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with it. It works best with smaller images that are 400 pixels in length or width. Maybe try that otherwise you could try following one of my other videos that will give much better results.

I used the Cricut explore 2 in this video so you can definitely use the new Cricut explore 3. This is also a good project for beginners as the stencils are simple and do not take a long time to cut.

Don't worry, we have all made that mistake when starting out. That's why I find it important to print out all the layers with the same dimensions, easiest way to do it is in photoshop or gimp...that way you can check each layer before saving it out.

Stencil Creator is a very limited when it comes to bridge options, usually it's pretty good at hiding them beneath the layers above. The only thing I can think of is either removing the background from your image or trying another software that will give you more control over your bridges.

You can use the same process as this video and then just use some 4 mil mylar for the material. I would still do a practice cut with paper to make sure it turns out the way you want so you don't waste any material. Even the stencils in this video took a couple of cuts to get right. I will be doing another video soon showing the process of making multi layer stencils in other free software so stay tuned for that.

Personally I use the Cricut Explore air 2 and really happy with it. It cuts through the mylar like butter and gets great detail. I would also take a look at some inkscape or Gimp software to make your stencils as they are both free with lots of how to's on the net to guide you though. You can get the mylar from anywhere thats cheap as long its the right thickness, 4 mil works best on the Cricut and lasts a long time.

Hi Marko, Thanks for looking at this video and unfortunately stencil creator has a maximum of 7 layers so if you want to do more layers then you'll have to try a different method like using the software GIMP or Photoshop.
