Im 22 and love this. Wish Hollywood would make more movies like this. There will be no one like them again. They are angels. Could we stop insulting Ginger or Fred? What make them special are them together. Their movies would have not been the same without each other. Ginger did good dancing without having much training when they started out. It goes without saying Fred was amazing dancer.

Ginger Rogers (Virginia McMath) was fabulous. She was the perfect dance partner for Fred Astaire in the mid-1930s and early-1940s. What they had, above all else, was that elusive quality called "Chemistry" when they danced. It's very, very rare, and it's why they're so great together. She deserves much, much credit for her movie work and is (was) truly one of the greats. Just my opinion. Peace.

Astaire did the choregraphy and his little magic trick which made him stand out was that he frequently allowed his feet to be very slightly behind the beat. This gave his dancing a tension as you almost subconsciously thought he would not catch up. That is genius. And some studio executive dismissed him in his audition with comments like "...can dance a bit".

Ginger made the difference with Fred. Everyone should be thanking her for her great contribution to the dance world because without her there just might not have been a Fred Astaire and wouldn't that had been a crime. There still would have been a Ginger Rogers. We should be grateful we also have Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire together. They are magical in dance, expression, and dialogue. They are so witty and comical together. They play off each other with supreme perfection.

I have this on DVD as well as the other nine musicals they did together. Fred & Ginger had no competition. Their worked made huge revenues for RKO. They basically saved the studio from going bankrupt. Ginger was also making other movies all throughout her partnership with Fred Astaire. Movie stars like this don't exist anymore. I don't think today's generation of directors and producers, not to mention audience , cares much about large scale musicals.

The deal is - if you want to be literal - Ginger is wearing tap heels - they are definitely not flats. Ginger didn't have as much formal training as Fred, and yet followed his lead wonderfully. She certainly was beautiful - and if you watch her - she watched him and they were a pair to behold! I agree - RELAX - it wasn't meant to denigrate Fred to say she wore high heels and danced backwards - everybody knew he was a perfectionist, and didn't stop until it was right .

There is so much joy in so many of there routines together. In their romantic ballroom numbers, they look like they are in love. None of Aistaire's other partners on screen capture the same spirit. Cyd Charisse came closest in combining the dancing with acting a person in a particular situation. I've loved F & G since I first saw them in Shall We Dance on the Million Dollar Movie in NYC in 1957.
@alvexok55236 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on Fred and Cyd Charrise, and Fred and Judy Garland were great together in Easter Parade. Judy's big amazing talent was her singing, and Ginger's was dancing, so Ginger was Fred's best dancing partner of all. They were both amazing dancers in every film they starred together in

One of their absolutely best dance numbers. Not as glamorous or dramatic as some but totally unique. Also, it is only one of two times in all their films that one really sees Gingers leg and foot work. The Gowns were spectacular but often camouflaged her brilliant dancing. NOTE..she did everything Fred did only in High Heels and backwards... She is often underpaid as a legend, but not from me. The opening of this scene was her singing with then unknown Betty Grable, & unknown Lucy Ball as model.

Ginger Rogers wasn't the best dancer of all the dancers Fred Astaire partnered with, but she was his best partner by a mile. She wasn't as highly trained in dance as his later partners, giving Astaire more leeway to mold her to his style, and they did a good job of that, together. She was his most seamlessly integrated partner, and you could really find it credible that he, as the man, lead Ginger, as the woman, in their dancing. I always see them as a team when they dance together, two parts of an almost perfect whole. When I watch him with more highly trained partners, I see them as two dancers, not that that's a bad thing, but for watching one of the most integrated dance partnerships in movie history, it's always Fred and Ginger, for me.

@alvexok55235 жыл бұрын
@@MrCrowebobby , I guess. Ginger was probably a big star then more because of her pairing with Fred, and she was a real beauty with charisma. But, you may right that her dancing skills alone weren't as great as Eleanor Powell and Cyd Charise. Now that I think of it, when Ginger appeared alone without Fred in "42nd St" (1933), she didn't even stand out as anything exceptional, Ruby Keeler and Dick Powell were the ones who carried that film. Even Una Merkel's performance stood out more than Ginger's there

Fred Astaire was a huge international star before he came to RKO. He and his sister Adele were so famous, the Royal Family and Winston Churchill were big fans of theirs. Yes, Fred and Ginger had a great partnership, but he had a 27 year career with his sister. They were huge Broadway stars, they made records, sold sheet music and they endorsed products for major companies, especially Adele. When she married a rich Lord and moved to a castle is Ireland, he came to Hollywood to make films.
