The Engineer class wasn't successful, that's stupid. There was literally no reason to play Assault in BF3/BF4. The carbines were literally just slightly different assault rifles, some were straight upgrades to assault rifles. If you didn't care about reviving/healing, you instead had the only anti-tank weapon in the game, which doubled as a direct-fire instagib grenade launcher. You had other gadgets as well in BF4. Outside of the paddles, who cares, why would you ever play Assault, which promised to leave you totally defenseless against vehicles?

The specialist system was stupid from the start. In a game where anyone can use any weapon, any secondary weapon, and any secondary gadget, its stupid to have “heroes”. The point of heroes in games are to have unique playstyles, but in battlefield, the point of heroes is to pick you passive and primary gadget (and looks). At that point, you might as well just make them subclasses for the already existing role system.
@goatman94992 жыл бұрын
Shoulda been like seige with the specialist with ony a few options for each one to make them stand out in playstyle more. Yeah that totally sound like battlefield to me 😂
@Dregomz022 жыл бұрын
They wanted to create another overwatch to sell skins but forget it's a battlefield and roles along with nation skins were always distinct and easily detectable. Now there are no nations just team a and b with everyone taking whatever weapon kits and gadgets they want it's a mess,you can't recognize that someone is medic or support or sniper at glance and gameplay suffers due that. Dice already gave up on updates for this game it did happen even quicker than bf5 at least half had really enjoyable tank combat while bf2042 has zero redeeming values. At this point ea will kill them after they mess battlefield one last time honestly it may not be a bad idea it's better to close studio than to keep desecrating rotting corpse every new game.
@Jestersage2 жыл бұрын
More correctly speaking, it's more or less Apex's system. Each hero (Legends) have 1 passive (itself may be multi purpose), 1 tactical, and 1 Ult, and then you pick up whatever gun that happens to lie around. Even in the Control (domination), though you can pick one of the 5 weapon kit, you can still pick up dropped guns withotu changing your entire legend. The biggest problem with chasing Apex, however, is that it is already in EA. They are basically making the same portfolio instead of having variations.
@HaugeBauge2 жыл бұрын
@@Jestersage true, except apex legends are still much more unique and varied. They have 2 unique abilites and a passive, wheras specialist only have 1 ability thats not especially unqiue (Sundance is just a more complicated grenade and Lis is just a guided rocket launcher). Over half of the "unique" abilites from specialist already exist in some shape or form in either this or previous battlefield titles.

The gunplay is what makes it feel like cod and not battlefield, not the movement
@I666I2 жыл бұрын
Movement and damage should me like in Escape from Tarkov tbh. What bothered me in Battlefield 4 the most is that sniper rifles didn't oneshot to the body, except 2 snipers that you could pick up on some maps. It's just bad weapon balance, and not only on the snipers, that's why most people always play the AEK and that oneshot shotgun in close combat. Just like the fact, that headshots dont oneshot with every weapon, it discourages skill and aim and encourages playing the best weapons, like the ones I mentioned. Getting some sweet long headshots with assault rifles with zoom scopes would be nice, but no, the opponents just keep running like marathon athletes after getting hit in the head lulz.
@user-ce3zv9oj2d2 жыл бұрын
What are you talking about? Since when Battlefield has ''heavy feeling'' in the movement? Especially Battlefield 4 where you can sprint 24/7 like flash with full military gear while jumping the whole time without getting tired. How is that heavy movement? Still beats COD's sliding fest though.

The feel and look of BF4 is also just so much better, look at Shanghai and Dawnbreaker compared to Kaleidoscope, there are papers and trash everywhere, damaged buildings, fires, destroyers in the background firing cruise missiles, barricades around buildings, shipping containers, logistics equipment, sandbags, the ambient sounds. The new game feels so sterile, devoid of cover and life at the same time. The loading screen music for BF3 and BF4 was phenomenal as well, sometimes it even has radio chatter in the background. Playing as soldiers, in uniforms, not specialists felt like you are in combined operations warfare, you have marines, jets, helicopters, tanks, light armor, marine banter, and none of the cringe voice lines or specialist nonsense. You are a marine, you are there to take an objective and support your team and squad. It all adds up to a beautiful package, in a world space that feels lived in, ravaged by war, and a bit more authentic compared to 2042.

I'm surprised how much of a difference is in Notorious' video in comparison to Badger's. Badger was more forgiving to BF2042, saying that change to BF formula with addition of specialists is not an issue, because it's still fun... The issue i had with his video was the fact that he didn't intend to play BF like BF, but to have a dumb fun with friends. As many times many others said before "Even a bag of turd can fun with friends". The personal biggest issue with BF2042 is that EA and Dice tried to keep old player who are accustomed to BF formula and attract new players with simplified systems, but end up only alienating both.
@asgth61472 жыл бұрын

@@asgth6147 No, actually his video was sponsored by World of Tanks, not EA in any capacity. The main thing that I've noticed is that Badger doesn't play bad games alone, but in a group, doing a buttload of stupid stuff. This was a issue destiny 2 had at launch. They simplified a lot for the casual players vs hardcore players and all the hardcore players got burnt out quick. The new/causual players did as well because most of them wouldn't do much more than the story and get max level. It took a good 7 months for them to start fixing it and they fixed it by the second year of the game for the most part. But it just shows how you can't please both sides equally. The hardcore players should always be priority because they are the reason the games stay alive, and the changes they like usually trickle down to the new/casual players and make them stick around more and have a healthier game.

Take the class system, they added the ability to grab meds and ammo from the backpack of support or assault when as we all know, occasionally they don't drop them...no matter how much you spam the request. Another thing was cops and criminals had two very distinct silhouettes. However, unfortunately that game was met with criticism and accused of having "unoriginal" gameplay. Personally I think hardline was one of the best in the series, had a great campaign, was optimised pretty well, took the good things about 3 and 4 and improved them. And even tweaked the vehicle combat so it wasn't as easy to get splash damaged by rocket spam from the level 140 ah1z pilot on the other team.

It's been happening a lot in gaming for some years that when the old guard leave, the new replacements change things as 'new equals good' rather than just making new maps or weapons, vehicles etc and keeping or improving functionality. @Registered_Simp2 жыл бұрын
I mean, SWBF already had a system like that which could work. The solution to their problem had already been solved. Just make it so that you accrue points towards specialists by doing things like playing the objective or teamwork. Then you can make the specialists have a certain gimmick which makes them notably strong, but not unkillable. It really isn't that hard...
@konradzukowski2132 жыл бұрын
@Sasha Lemay The reason why they changed the system isn't that it didn't work but because before it wasn't monetizable or difficult to do so in its original form. People won't pay a ton of money for only 1 character who's played in 1/4 cases. Making game classless, EA increases chances that more people will actually engage into the monetary aspect of the game. Just look at how EA tried to change BFV with introduction of 6 vs 6 mode or making overall TTK shorter, more akin to CoD. Everything to make sure they squeeze out as much money as possible from people who would normally not play this type of game.

I think a good example of having "heroes" in a Battlefield style game was the original Star Wars Battlefronts. Though I only can confirm for it being in 2 but not 1. First you had to earn them, both as a team and if you wanted to play them also as a individual. Though if I remember correctly if your team was getting beat up badly it had the chance of letting your team get a hero to make the game interesting. Second if you saw Darth Vader or Yoda or whoever, you knew you're screwed because they were POWERFUL! But that power came at a cost, you couldn't hide in a corner because you needed kills in order to keep playing them and if you got too far away from your team doing your own thing you'll get overrun faster than Palpatine executing order 66. Heroes needed their team's support to stay alive, and in exchange they can make serious pushes. They changed the flow of the game in a good way, were fun to play as (even die to), and also forced the players to be even more coordinated with their team rather than less.

The issue with 2042 pointed out in this video makes me realise why I fell in love with Build&Shoot (the oldschool Ace of Spades). I find it hard to grasp roles of all the different classes, but Build&Shoot makes it so simple that it is extremely obvious. The simplistic graphics also help my colourblind self identify enemies immediately. I knew there was something special about spawning with a rifle and a grenade, tossing a grenade to dig a 3x3 hole, adding a front to it and making a bunker within seconds (while your team digs through a mountain to get behind the enemy lines).

DICE tried to shuffle the Specialists into Classes but it was more of a "Hey look we did what you asked" bandaid, rather than actually doing something. It's still difficult totell who does what, or if they're even going to do that (LOOKING AT YOU SUPPORTS AND YOUR INABILITYT O PROVIDE AMMO AND REVIVES!!!)

You can actually carry an entire team of 32 players to victory in BF4 under certain conditions, for example, if you're a tanker on a match of Rush and you're a defender, you're playing as an engineer with the mechanic upgrade, so you can repair faster. Of course, it's better to have a buddy be your gunner, who can jump out and fire rockets at the enemy tank and repair you, but if you're very good on your own, you will most likely be on top of the scoreboard with 0 deaths or 1 death. Also, if we're gonna be completely honest here, the classes in BF3 and BF4 were not that well balanced, because Assault had the highest pick rate overall, because he had the best guns and the ability to heal and revive.
@johnlasley9752 жыл бұрын
In my experience of BF4 most picked class is engineer. IDK why, probably because of a lot of fights now happends in close quarter conditions and SMG's are best in CQB in BF4.But a squad filled with engies is more usual, than class full of assaults.
@gitupmechavvy25692 жыл бұрын
@@johnlasley975 depends on maps, on locker you’ll see everybody as support and assault for ammo and health it’s piss easy to rack up points. Any other map I’ll run engineer and use the G363 ACW or the MPX and an rpg for vehicles
@vasilzahariev57412 жыл бұрын
@@johnlasley975 The AEK-971, the FAMAS and the Bulldog are superior to any PDW in CQB. Edit: When DICE was in the process of creating Battlefield: Hardline, in the time between the Alphas, Betas and whatever, they changed the Assault class in Hardline. At first, he was a copy-paste from BF3 and BF4 and then they nerfed him a little bit, so that he won't have the same 80% pick rate as in BF3 and BF4. That's what they said at the time. Back in the day, when these two games were played by a lot more people, there used to be many times more servers running Locker/Metro 24/7 than there were servers running anything else and people used to run M16A3 in BF3 and ACE-23/M416/AEK in BF4 all day every day. But otherwise, you're right, in BF4 on all other maps on Conquest mode, people tend to play Engineer a lot more than anything else, because of how vehicle-heavy the maps in BF4 are.
@johnlasley9752 жыл бұрын
@@vasilzahariev5741 i think that F-2000 is the best for CQB, but overall you're right. Also, there are a lot of LMG or SAW players in CQ maps. But i do not like Locker or Metro, so for me, most of gameplay time happends on Conquest large, that is why i said that.
@SkyNinja7592 жыл бұрын
Assault had a huge pick rate but it has zero viable AT options. So the meta for infantry maps is assault spam but for normal play you'd see a mix of engineer/assault with recons and supports being niche picks for their rolls (support being a bit underpowered generally, and recon being the backrage class). I wouldn't call assault over powered, just the generalist pick that's strong but with flaws. The generalist carbines can compete in the same vallpark as assault rifles, outside of the specfic OP picks. Less of a class wide problem and more of a weapon by weapon balance issue.

This video also gives me hope that the older battlefield games will still be played in the future by people who love the franchise and that my closest friends and I will have the chance to play them together once the price of hardware comes down a little, especially with the older games being easier to run on newer entry level hardware. Loved Battlefield, all the way from BF2, the first game I ever played (singleplayer 16v16 bots lmao), 2142 (first MP I ever played) with Titan mode (a high never hit since in terms of modes), BFBC 2's campaign, BF3, BF4, and then BFV. BFV was definitely a low, but there were things it did well. Most of its issues were aesthetic (solved in the Pacific map pack, which was incredible) and technical (still not fully solved but much better than before). Deep down, it had great gameplay that I loved as much as I had loved 2142 all those years ago. I still didn't think I'd look back on it and wish it hadn't been cancelled, and think of it fondly against the next game. I genuinely would've rather had more BFV. For all its problems, I kept playing even though my enemies were invisible sometimes for a reason. It was fun, and eventually it even became great in the Pacific. This decline is, in my eyes, not just EA killing it, but has to actively be a choice. There were incomprehensible decisions going back years now. The random TTK changes in BFV come to mind as a bewildering gameplay choice that seems too specific to be an EA idea. Much of the vehicle combat was terrible, too, specifically aircraft. It had a ton of guns and looked great. Once the Pacific released, really cool cosmetics started coming out too.

2:30 One issue, classes are good but I seem to remember people complaining about medic/assault a lot. In Bf4 and Bf1 e.g., you could be a medic without the ability to heal/revive respectively if you don’t choose it. Likewise some people would play it just for the assault rifles and self-heals. BfV kinda fixed some issues by making reviving people and repairing teammates a passive ability for medics/supports, but BF2042 went back to square one
@happyjohn3542 жыл бұрын
I would have just given them a better grenade grenade launcher where you can switch "fire modes" to handle different targets ones better for armor, ones better for infantry, one does more damage to structures kind of deal that way you have a jack of all trades gadget that you constantly have on you. Also maybe a passive speed buff over the other classes.

In BF1 and BF4 i was able to focus less on the minimap because I didnt constantly need it's input to know where the enemies are, also due to the fact they were faction classes with different designs. 2042 requires my eyes to be glued to the minimap if I want to survive longer than 1 minute.

I honestly liked the balancing of classes in BF1/V much more than BF3/4. In BF4 it felt like you needed to run engineer 99% of the time because otherwise you'll just be completely helpless against vehicles except in very tiny sections of the map but the new classes of assault, medic, support, scout allowed for the more variety more easily. Snipers actually being much more fun to use with significantly higher bullet velocities certainly didn't hurt either. I also really like how BFV implemented stuff like the repair tool and medic syringe directly into the class as a trait allowing for more interesting gadget selections. No one was using rifle grenades in BF4 or BF1 because you simply don't have the room for it and no one was repairing in BF1 because people didn't want to bring a repair tool.
@jblazerndrowzy2 жыл бұрын
That’s definitely one thing I really like about V. People didn’t want to throw on the repair tool or syringe? Then just force them into the class kits without creating a single problem. You see a damaged tank nearby as a Support in V? Just run up to it and press the toolbox button, and boom, your hammer turns into a repair tool to help out friendly tanks That alone has saved me many times as a tank. If I was horribly damaged, I could just roll up to a Support, and the dude would very quickly take out their blowtorch and fix my tank up.
