These are my favourite trail shoes.. 1st time I ran in them I felt like I was cheating, like trainers on steroids 😂😂. So comfortable, light and the grip on every trail I've been on has been amazing.. I can't fault them one bit... Good review... Subbed 👍👍👍

Wahoo!! I've been researching this shoe obsessively and this review might make me pull the trigger, I run trails in the Altra Superior's (4.5 right now) and love the lightweight and fit of the shoe but have been wanting just a little more cush and some more substantial grip in some of the gnarlier terrain I typically run in. That Graphene compound is no joke, I have mountain bike tires with over 2,ooo km on them with very little tread wear so I'm really excited to try these out I think durability in these will be outstanding. I have never ran in Innov 8 before, wish they were a little more friendly on the wallet but will gladly try them, thank you for your channel really enjoy your thorough reviews!

Another great review. Glad to see you enjoyed them. I've stuck about 800kms in mine and the grip and upper are holding up pretty well, I think the performance on a variety of surfaces is a big plus for this shoe. I found the tongue to be one of inov-8's better ones, some of their other recent shoes the tongue bunches up and can be quite uncomfortable.

Great to see you review Inov-8 and it be a positive experience. So rare for trail runners to not get on with them. I run the trail talon 235, X-Talon 200 and Roclite G290, all great shoes. I will be sure to grab this beast when on offer. £140 is TOO much for any shoe though IMO. Great review, keep it up, hope the ankle is OK!

Excellent review matey. You largely echo everything I think about that shoe, and that is from moi, an inov8 fan boi. Surprisingly good grip, performs better in mud that I would expect from a trail shoe as well Padding - Hands down the best combination of ground feel to protection that I have experienced from an inov8 shoe. Great flexibility (something lacking from the VJ Maxx you compared it to - a pretty stiff shoe), can still feel the ground but has enough protection for even the longest of runs for me. Drop - Would like a 4-6mm option for the reasons you state Ankle - I find a little rough but still very useable. I think it is actually a little higher than most inov8 heel cups hence can cause a little irritation. I personally don't think it is about padding but I can see why you might, I think they could drop the heel cup cuff by a mm or so. Durability - Questionable at this stage. The sole durability seems great but the upper in inov8 often goes for me at about 500 miles. The first iteration of the Terraultra the upper was laced with Kevlar, I am unsure why they stopped that as it seemed to offer increased durability. I look forwards to seeing your 100 mile update.

Great review Loyd, thanks for taking the time in doing it! My 270’s are closing in on 200 miles and considering what they have run through this wet miserable winter they are holding up great. No reduction in comfort or grip. My old pair of 260s crashed for me at just under 300 miles, just felt like a different shoe and was expecting more. I’m a proper Hoka fan but find I have no issues at all with under foot comfort (50km distances as far as I’ve run the 270’s). Don’t seem to notice the tongue, even on steep descents. I’ve had some issues at the top lacing like another comment earlier. All down to laces being too tight though. One thing that does frustrate me is that the manufacturers go to the effort of putting extra holes in the shoes for lace locking but the laces are never long to get a decent bow. Always ends up a fiddly little bow that usually comes undone. Not needed to do this so far as they fit just great. Thanks again and hope the recovery is on track. Looking forward to future videos.

Thanks, really glad you enjoyed the review. That's great to hear that your pair of G270's are holding up well to mileage 😊 I was really surprised with how comfortable the midsole and the footbed are, even on the road! great review, I've bought these and done around 50 miles so far. They hold up great up here in the soggy north west of England. I kinda purchased them with a mindset that I'd race the fells and shorter (10 miles to marathon distance) in them but I do agree, a zero drop as you head towards a full on ultra may start to be a little to much on the lower leg muscles and ankles.

Inov8 TerraUltra G270. Scored a pair from Pete Bland at a very good price, with 15% Jubilee discount….thanks Liz. These will be my shoes for my second attempt at the 54k, 4000m Ben Nevis Ultra. Last year I made it to the last checkpoint…15minutes too late. I used the XTalon Ultra 260, great shoes, especially on the mucky sections, though the grip felt a bit too aggressive for the slog back up Glen Nevis, along gravel track and some road. So far been for a first training run on the new shoes, mix of stony paths, gravel trail and road of about 40 minutes. So had did they perform. Straight out of the box, very comfy, though compared to the XTalon, stiffer and I could feel my big toe against the end. The plastic of the rand is stiffer, but hopefully will soon bed in. They certainly grip my feet a lot more than the now one year old XTalon, this feels better on the road, though not sure on the paths, I didn’t get quite the same feedback . I should add that I am almost fully into the journey into minimalist shoes (allow a good year), so like to feel my feet doing the work. Again as they bed in i expect this to change. Grip, very good, even on smooth damp schist, which can be very slippery. How they will fare in the gloop dropping into Glen Nevis…we shall see, I don’t expect to get away with clean shorts! Looks like the graphine is doing the job, hope so, the XTalon lugs were considerably worn down at the heel after training for and doing the race last year. So fingers (or toes) crossed they do the job, I make it the the finish line this year.
@Run4Adventure2 жыл бұрын
The X-Talon Ultra 260 is definitely designed for the proper muddy stuff and it's really not designed to run on the harder terrain. Where as the Terraultra G270 is designed to cross over to road and trail so it will definitely perform better on a bigger mix of terrains 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏

Now used on some muddy tracks, no problem so far. Really liking this shoe. Hope it last better than the XTalon, which I now see that the heel cushioning has compacted on one side, which can’t be good for my feet. Also a good shoe, but disappointed on how long it lasted.

Thanks for the detailed review. Really helpful in my research for some new trail shoes. Have one snag with these though, and that’s the 0mm drop. Obviously I’m not an expert in running so it’s clearly made that way for a reason, but it would be a big difference from my current trail shoes (Nike Pegasus trails with a 10mm drop) and also my road runners which are Saucony’s with an 8mm drop. I feel like going from being used to running with that kind of drop, right down to 0mm, could potentially be a bad move?! Is that even a thing or am I overthinking it? Thank you!

Run4Adventure - could you explain what the drop is on shoes and how it affects a runner. Love the vids and reviews I have been watching them back to back like GOT eps.
@Run4Adventure3 жыл бұрын
The drop on a shoe is the difference between the heel hight and the forefoot hight of the midsole 👍 So if you had a running shoe that's 25mm on the heel of the midsole and 20mm under the forefoot of the midsole, it's a 5mm off set (drop) Heel off set is a very personal thing and some runners prefer a higher off set and some prefer a lower off set. A lot of what a runner prefers with heel off set comes down to each individuals running gait and how they work through their running cycle. A lot of runners that are more dominant on their heels when they run would prefer more hight on the heel of their Running shoes. Where as someone who's more midfoot /forefoot in foot strike might prefer a lower heel off set (drop) 👍 Hope this makes sense and thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏

Another great well put together review there Loyd, well worth waiting for. I wasn't sure which was brighter, your pink socks or the shoe? ;-) I used to use the Inov8s Roclite but fell out of favour with those a while back so will be looking at these for sure, maybe once the price has come down slightly. I am slightly concerned about the zero drop as i generally switch between Hoka's and Salomon so roughly a 4mm to 8mm max drop. You've just come off a calf injury so how did you find them on that? Have they niggled it in any way? I tired zeros a couple of years ago and whilst they felt great caused me some calf issues, probably cause I ran too far in them to begin with.
@Run4Adventure3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Phil 👍 You're right the socks did clash a bit! The Terraultra G270 is a very different shoe compared to an older Roclite, way better in my opinion 👍 As far as the zero drop, I didn't even really notice it. I tend to spend most of my time in shoes that run off a pretty low heel off set, around 4 or 5mm. I think it really depends what you're use to, heel off set is so personal, but to be fair I don't think it's such a big issue in our trail running shoes. Hope this helps and thanks for supporting the channel its appreciated 🙏

I have run/fast packed in this shoe for about 900 odd Kms. I had 2 pairs and sold a few smaller sizes ( im a uk 13 natural but wear uk14 when fast packing!) . Pros: Comfort, zero drop, midfoot spring when in a new gait, down hill stopping power, lugs are durable, light mud, uppers are strong as no blowouts yet!. Cons: hard rocks do not like this shoe at all so be careful otherwise it will puncture str8 through the shoe leaving your foot a nasty surprise. Lugs could be bigger like more like a Walsh PB or Mudclaw 333 ( My personal fave mud deep forest/bush running shoe ever beside the Walsh PB), so if ya run mainly mud like me, light nearly slushy mud is no good, this shoe does not like clay at all. Back of the foot sole near the end of the foot is unusually softer so be careful if ya trying to use it to pitch tent stakes for your tarp/tent and no good that much when ya have to do a wilderness cathole.
@Run4Adventure3 жыл бұрын
To be fair Ras the Terraultra G270 isn't really designed for running just thick mud. It's designed to handle a big mix of terrains. As you said Inov-8 make shoes for that kind of terrain, like the Mudclaw and X-talon As far as tent pegs in the ground!? The Terraultra G270 is a running shoe so I think to judge it on that is a bit unfair 🤔 Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@RasDoesBushcraftBackcountry3 жыл бұрын
@@Run4Adventure Cheers for the feedback. Reason why I said mud is a lot of trail running and hiking trails in north island NZ are muddy. Very muddy. At times finding fell runners shoes with proper lugs is hard in NZ. What I can say is the most beautiful thing that this shoe does do is if you have trained in zero drop or barefoot running it is a great transition shoe into something that you can do well with in multi trail conditions. The tent peg thing was a adventure race thing when these shoes were launched in Wellington in the Tararua ranges.

Midsole seems a little too thin cuz it’s only 12mm and 4 of which is outsole lugs. 8mm doesn’t sound like much. Kinda surprised to see ur ok with it. 👍🏼 like u said maybe it’s the insole that’s relieves it.
@Run4Adventure3 жыл бұрын
The 12mm depth is just the midsole depth, that's not including the outsole as well. You also get the Boomerang foot bed in the shoe, which is 4mm in depth 👍 I thought the same about the 12mm midsole depth but the shoes feels like it's got plenty of cushioning underfoot, even on the road. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its really appreciated 🙏

hi loyd, i wish to buy a pair of zero drop shoes, but can not decide whether to get a pair from altra or the inov8 g270. also, having seeing many you tube videos and reading many reviews i hear that the inov8 g270 are true to size with a wide toebox, but you made the experience that that were too small, so you sized up UK 10. i would really appreciate your feedback. i find that your experience is really valuable. thanks, colin

Hi Colin I definitely had to go up to a uk10 in the Terraultras. I ordered a uk9.5 first and could hardly get my feet into them, they were so small 🤔 The uk10 fits just fine and I'd say they've got good width in the toe box. Hey Loyd, how have you found this shoe a few miles down the line? I'm in the market for a new trail shoe for my first 50k ultra, and was wondering if this would be a good option... or maybe the Saucony Peregrine 🤔 would love to know your thoughts of what they'd be like over that distance. Cheers!!

Hi Charlotte I think you could run 50k in either shoe. The Trailfly would definitely give you more depth of cushioning if that's what you are after? Also the Terraultra is a zero drop shoe, have you run in a zero drop before? 🤔

@@Run4Adventure thanks so much for your reply Loyd 😊 As it stands based on your reviews, I'm leaning on getting the TrailFly's in the sale. I was into the idea of the Terraultra initially, but like you say - I've never ran in a zero drop shoe before so I'm a little worried about the adjustment there 🤔 The ultra is going to be fairly dry/hard packed trails, so I imagine the cushioning of the Trailfly would be helpful there!

I like your vids but you have a really odd habit I've noticed in repeating the subject multiple times, instead of referring to it as 'it' or 'them' or leaving it out entirely as it's assumed. In this case it is "the shoe." We know this is a shoe review man! "This shoe has great grip and when you are wearing the shoe it feels great, this shoe really is the shoe you want" 😁 Just a very small thing that irked me! Maybe you are trying too hard idk

Trying to hard? 🤔 I definitely put a lot of time and effort into every review because I want to make it entertaining and informative for our viewers. @fionnmacnamara47383 жыл бұрын
Yeah absolutely. Agree with all that. And I'm a fan of your vids. I merely meant the way you speak and repeat the subject sometimes doesn't sound natural. It's a bit like when you hear footballers in interviews use the word 'myself' repeatedly when 'me' is more appropriate/correct. They're trying too hard to be formal/well spoken. I get a similar impression from you. It's OK to refer to something as 'it' or 'them' once the audience is familiar with what the subject is.

I think you’d agree the G270 cannot compete with the Hoka one one EVO Jawz which are better in every way from my test of both shoes. The Jawz are the only medium distance trail shoe I go back to for road to trail mud grass speed agility lightness and grip security. By comparison the G270 are pretty dead on the road, slipped all over the place on muddy grass hills more than a £40 trail shoe I have with the same lug depth!!. Took me two runs in the Hoka Jawz to get my confidence back on that muddy trail section. G270’s are strictly dry rock dry grass summer trails. The best grip of all time on wet metal drains, wet rock and pavement, are the Altra MT King 2 vibram tread. But the Hoka Jawz come a close second along with the Saucony Mad river 1.
@Run4Adventure3 жыл бұрын
The Evo Jaws is a great shoe John but to compare the two shoes is difficult because they are so different! You're right the grip on the Jawz is brilliant and I'm a massive fan of Vibram Megagrip 👍 But I had no issues with the grip on the Terraultra G270 on everything I ran it on. It gripped well in the mud, yes the Jawz is better in mud but the Terraultra was great on rock and wet rock! Definitely as good as the Jawz in my opinion. Then when it comes to distance the Terraultra has to come out on top. I ran my Evo Jawz 24 miles on the coats path once and it felt like my feet had been smashed with hammers 😂 I'm pretty sure they wouldn't feel like that running 24 miles in the Inov-8 shoe. I also thought the Terraultra ran really well on road I thought it transitioned really well between road and trail 👍 Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated 🙏
