This is also why the InRangeTV Mud Test is actually a very good "working conditions" trial. Generally speaking, they're not setting out to utterly destroy the firearm, but rather see what the firearm will do under the more extreme conditions a user may find themselves operating under in the field. This response shows a great level of respect for InRangeTV and an appreciation of their testing. THIS is how post-market field testing should be carried out. The InRangeTV formula provides a hell of a lot of positive and critical feedback on issues encountered, and it's fantastic to see a company take this constructive feedback to heart and work out fixes for their product based on customer and industry-aligned peer review.

Desert Tech has always had an excellent reputation when it came to their firearms and customer services. That's never been an issue with the company. @RyTrapp05 жыл бұрын
@@springbloom5940 Honestly, I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't have designed a firearm that's sensitive to ammo if they knew that was going to be the result. The thing about engineering is that it only goes as far as the money paying for it - if these guys had a Formula 1 budget, they very well may have been able to invest enough into 3D design & rendering plus FEA modeling to predict some otherwise impossible to know super sonic physics events that are the result of, say, elements of the gas system design. But, these aren't century-plus old massive names in the firearms industry that can just call up a congressman to get gov contracts handed to them on a platter. Nor do they generally have anything that could be considered "big money investors". These guys, the Hudson crew, these are very young startups with very minimal, startup-level funding. And, that has to get divied up between overhead, salaries, manufacturing, packaging, storage, shipping,... and, somewhere in all of this, R&D gets it's slice of the pie. And, when a company is this small, R&D funds are typically near the top of the list to start getting slashed should tomorrow's cash need to be used to save today's ass(and potentially even make it to tomorrow at all). Point being, they didn't just CHOOSE to "tune the gun for one type of ammo" - they aren't going to run 10,000 rounds of 10 different types of ammo through 10 different guns; do you have any idea how much that would cost a small company?! Notice: he says that he's referring to the ammo that they used in their 10,000 round test. If they had the funds - and TIME(these products can't stay in development, sucking up more and more R&D funds forever, they have to hit the market...) - to a large variety of different kinds of ammo through a consumer market product just Also, it's definitely not unusual for a firearm to be designed to run brass/not be designed to run steel, that's relatively common throughout history, so the cheap ass steel cased garbage shouldn't be held against them for this reasonable trait

I don't know much about the inner workings of firearms companies, but I can pretty confidently state as fact that in any other industry, saying (Paraphrased, of course) "Our product was not user friendly" would be a fuckin' huge no-no! The fact Desert Tech had the guts not only to put that into writing, but to have the CEO of the company read it out loud and explain in detail how the design and explanations of use were incorrect and needed to be changed, *even when InRange praised the manual for its comprehension and exhaustive explanations,* is beyond commendable! Not some corporate spiel written by an executive with a stick up their arse and no knowledge on the ground level, or some just as egregious new age "Hey guys, we messed up and we're really sorry" phony bullshit, just real technical stuff explaining how an aspect of the design was not user friendly and how it has been or will be fixed. I genuinely can't remember the last time I heard an... Apology, I guess? From a company, that didn't make me roll my eyes and immediately disregard whatever they're saying. I'm pleased to see DT addressing the problem with a no BS explanation and solution but it is still quite disappointing that DT put out a flawed product several years behind promised deliveries while taking up-front 100% deposits with customers then waiting two-plus years for overdue delivery. As a DT MDR owner whose rifle runs almost 100% reliably (always suppressed on the original S setting with the 3-position gas plug) I feel fortunate to have great, innovative rifle, that I really like, but it shouldn't be such a fragile setup that some just happen to get the settings and ammo aligned just right while many others do not, no fault on their part. It is reassuring that DT is addressing this head on and appears to be taking care of their customers....that goes a long way.

I appreciate this video. However, you must have been aware from the beginning, that "adverse" only makes any sense as a setting if you can quickly change to it in the field. If you have time to partly strip the gun to change the setting, you can probably clean the action enough to not need adverse. It needs to be a quick external switch or it's pointless.
@CrotchThunder5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say that. I think if you know you're about to go out on a patrol, or pleasure hike, in a shitty muddy spot or something along those lines you would prep the rifle before leaving. @GunFunZS5 жыл бұрын
@@CrotchThunder (edited because I dictated it and it made no sense.) The adjuster does not have to be hanging out where anything will bump it. Plenty of rifles use a knob that you stick a cartridge into the turn that's fine . Or have a little slot in the handguard and a lever on the inside that you can flip with your fingers. Difficult to change by accident yet still not hard to change on-the-fly- that's what you want. Looks like on their design simply having a couple holes you could poke your fingers or cartridge into and the handguard would be sufficient to allow that . The MicroMOA style gas selector was clever, even though it only allows for 3 settings. Impossible to mess up, easy to change without a tool when you need to, not very likely to be affected to gas jet cutting.

One thing I really think you should look into (particularly if you want to get into the military market) is to give the ejection covers a hinge like a regular dust cover, and possibly make it slightly easier to open. Clearing a malfunction in a fluid combat situation - especially if it's dark - looks challenging and time consuming unless you take the plate off (which may require a tool/bullet/case), and if you do, you risk losing the part.

It makes me so happy to see a company respond to such stuff, this is how you gain trust in your brand and transparency sells, unlike keltec which has never really addressed that they constantly have products that even after the break in period need A LOT of tuning just to cycle reliably, that's why you never hear about someone getting a pmr30 as a defensive pistol but you'll hear all day how the s&w shield and m&p/Glock lines are undeniably reliable and a reasonable choice for a home defense pistol

My comment on Forgotten Weapons-"I think the issues in the InRange test are from lack of dwell time from insufficient reciprocating mass. Otherwise my best guess would be extractor geometry, and that would be a shame because the ejection system is so cool." Also-"For a better trigger, they should license the K&M design."

As an engineer and somebody who is VERY interested in purchasing a .308 MDR, I'm thrilled with this response. I am very impressed that you thoroughly addressed every issue by explaining your research into the CAUSES and then responding with effective fixes for those issues, rather than just making excuses. I like hearing that you backed up your fixes with thorough testing, and most of all, I can't wait to see third-party results from Ian and Karl. Good work, DT!

I just don't understand why you would buy this over the new bren, scar or a nice ar-10 why would you buy a bullpup 308? it literally makes zero sense that said, it's your money!
@elektro30005 жыл бұрын
@@qk-tb2df I already have an StG-58 that works perfectly. If I buy another conventional .308 semiauto, it will just be for variety, but it won't do much of anything new. An MDR would give me different capabilities, mostly for running .308 at full velocity in more confined spaces.

Glad to see you guys were able to sort this out, it is understandable that issues will come up,. This is super cool. I love to see a company have enough integrity to step up and say “hey this was wrong and this is how we’re making it right”. I’ve seen soooo many companies in this industry hide and act like the problems with their products don’t exist, but you guys acknowledged it, took accountability, and fixed it - all while keeping the consumer informed. Great job DT, you guys are doing things right!

Reading online a lot of people are having a hard time getting their rifles fixed. But because they don’t have a popular KZbin channel they don’t get a dedicated “how we are making it better” video.

Can there be some kind of chamber window or a ejection module that is just a dust cover and brass deflector? Jamming in the ejection shoot and not being able to see what the malfunction was without disassembling the rifle seems to be the remaining issues.
@D0cJekyll5 жыл бұрын
Hey Desert Tech, I just wanted to say thank you for making a response. Far too often companies don't do this. It takes ownership and I think even though obviously some of these issues weren't desired, you're working toward improving your product.
@TheRealJeff9845 жыл бұрын
Your transparency and willingness to accept you had problems along with your presentation of your solutions in a technical stand point speaks volumes compared to other companies in the industry these days. You had a flawed product, accepted you had a flawed product, and then went out to fix it and showed everyone how you ACTUALLY fixed it rather than just saying its fixed. Your MDR may have been FUBAR when it came out but I, like many here, as of right now are more than willing to give you a second chance because of this. Make us proud DT.

Great response. Problems were acknowledged and dealt with. In areas where acceptable solutions to highlighted problems weren't immediately apparent you pointed out what you're doing to chase those down. You didn't dodge real issues or disparage the people who respectfully pointed them out. God I wish more companies , politicians and people in general would act the same. Hurry up and submit the MDR for admission to Canada.
