@@InrangeTv What about the magpul bipod? I have that on my MDR and I can deploy it by pushing near the mounting point instead of at the feet, keeping my hand behind the muzzle/end of handguard. Muzzle blast is not really a problem either for me personally. Just my 2 cents.

@@stevej6991 like the 20" AUG and FAMAS that Ian loves, more velocity, and potentially little more handguard real estate for bipods, barricade stops, lights, etc. Ian and Karl seemed to complain in this video series that there wasn't enough handguard on the mdr to use on barricades. Personally, I like a longer barrel on a bullpup to keep the blast further away from my face. I wonder if Keltec got the balance right with a 17" Barrel on the RDB with a long handguard.
@overboss9599

@stevej6991
@stevej6991 5 жыл бұрын
@@overboss9599 yes it is but I'd debate the merit of an oversized bullpup. If you're going 20", MY preference would be e.g. a 12-16" AR or whatever. Basically what the inrange guys keep saying. The only practical benefit of a bullpup is really in it's compactness, when you extend it you're neutralising the only benefit it has over an AR. Yes academically it has a longer barrel and increased velocity but in a real world scenario it's not a big deal. That's just my opinion.

Fascinating Bullpup set. Plenty of us are thinking 'Defense', within the perimeter of our yards; moving to acquire targets (or to not be acquired!) I have been watching your videos for reliability of the firearms. I come from a generation that started by saying 'those Action Hero guns" aren't for civilians, to thinking about some of my hog hunting in Texas: we are in the brush and short total length is useful; plus we get a bit longer barrel for a bit better accuracy.

you have to watch sweeping your off hand with a bullpup in confined spaces shooting through barricades where you use your off hand to steady the rifle and after you have shot bringing the rifle back out of a shooting port as the barrel is so short , just watch the video and you can see it is very close to what I am saying with say a new shooter might get carried away and forget the muzzle when shooting around barriers or port holes .

If you guys have a chance to try simulating operating from a vehicle with the MDR I'd suggest trying it. I think that's where the bullpup design shines. I was issued a full length M16, and there is really no good way to manipulate that inside a vehicle. i wonder, what if they will make a more "simple" ejecting plate? maybe some that are more traditional but still with the same field swapable idea behind them, basically so that you can chose if you either want "on the clock" shoulder change with hard malfunction detection and chamber check or easier malfuncion detection/chamber check, because if they do this could become a really flexible design that could lend itself to more situations

Will Hood hmm it could be that the switchable ejection ports was designed first but during the development process someone came up with the forward ejection but decided to keep both features since it probably didn’t add much complexity on top of that I imagine it also provide both a means to access inside the gun without having to open it up all the way and if on the field something happens to that port that prevents clean ejection well you can easily replace/remove it. Although I don’t know if the gun depend on it to fully function so removing it and continuing to fire might not be viable either way it would be interesting to see how it plays out in the long run

What's wrong with it being for someone who just wants something different? Not everything is a minimax game where there is only one correct choice. Maybe someone has a different sized body and the mdr feels better. Maybe they like their gun to look space age. Maybe they drive a tiny car and having those extra few inches saved makes a difference. Maybe they're a gun hipster and want something other than a standard black rifle. Maybe they just like to try things that are new and cool, or maybe like the InRange guys, they like to support people who are doing serious, modern designs and trying to push the envelope. Sure, maybe from a raw economics standpoint it makes more sense to build a WWSD rifle because it's the "best" and most efficient use of resources. But there is plenty of room for other options which may not be the best or most affordable, but are interesting in other ways.
