@@massivepileupAll jokes aside, you should NEVER fire a warning shot in a self-defense situation, or you *will* almost certainly go to jail. This may sound absurd, but the state's logic is this: If you felt that your life was in imminent danger so much so that you decided to draw a firearm and discharge it at your (suspected) assailant, then the fact that you decided *not* to shoot the bad guy but simply to fire your weapon into the air or ground to scare him off means that your life *wasn't* actually in danger, and therefore, you had no legally justifiable reason to draw and discharge said firearm. There's also the problem that you are responsible for every bullet you fire downrange, and that the round you fire as a warning shot could travel quite far to strike an uninvolved and innocent party. You can still be legally held liable for shots you fire in a self-defense encounter which miss your intended target and hit innocent bystanders, even though you were trying to defend your own life and potentially those other people's lives as well. TL ; DR (for late millennial and gen Z functional illiterates): if you have to draw your firearm to fend off a bad guy, the time for warnings has already passed, and the only less-lethal option left to you is whether you squeeze that trigger or not. And if you do squeeze that trigger, try to actually hit your intended target, not just attempt to scare him with the flash and report of the shot, unless you want to end up potentially dead or behind bars.

He was given a brace of expensive "snap-haunce" pistols by his father, which actually had rifled barrels. Loading it involved using a wrench to unscrew the barrel, and balancing the ball on a nipple (after pouring in a charge of powder) before screwing and tightening the barrel back on top of the ball. Not only were these things single shot, they were practically impossible to reload while on horseback. Imagine losing the wrench. This pistol reminds me of that book.

I don't recommend Annette's loading procedure, because it can cause an ND. If you lock the trigger to the rear using the safety, then disable the safety and let the trigger fall, it will detonate about 50% of the time - if the barrel is off or in the fire position. And the barrel rotates really easily from safe to fire, so that's an easy mistake to make. Instead, and I can't believe I'm saying this: I recommend engaging the safety, then pulling the trigger a little bit. Even if you mess up and pull the trigger all the way back to the safety stop and release, it is less likely to detonate than Annette's way. It goes back a bit less far and the firing pin gains less energy. In my testing I'm not able to get a primer to go off that way.

Short video challenge: What’s faster to get off two shots? The Altor or a Blunderbuss?
@Kb-cz9ch8 ай бұрын
Me thinks it doth be the blunderbuss possibly more safe as well

I think carrying a single shot flintlock pocket pistol with a turn off barrel would be more practical, safer, more accurate, and no slower to reload.

im not a great gun connoisseur but aren't there more appropriate small firearms? i don't know the model names but in other videos ive seen small glocks and other brands wich had guns similar Alter size guns with magazines , proper trigger and semiatuo mechanisms if i have to choose i will preffer the modern ones
@LuisNunes-ps4sl8 ай бұрын
@@NikoMoraKamu Literally anything on the market is better than that thing. Reproduction black powder revolvers are way better. Brazilian polymer pistols are better. That thing is an accident waiting to happen. I think it was made to be shot once and dropped...
@Sableagle8 ай бұрын
@@NikoMoraKamu M&P Shield has been getting a fairly good reputation, Glock models 26 and 43 are subcompact 9 x 19 mm (Glock have a policy that none of their model numbers ever matches the calibre), S&W revolvers include a bunch of double-action-only models with internal hammers, short barrels and tiny sights that sacrifice pretty much everything to not snag on your pocket _and can be fired three times from inside your pocket_ so a problem doesn't have time to see the gun come out and try to control it (No damn use whatsoever for anything except stopping an attacker who's already so close you can poke him with the muzzle to aim, but they work) and I'd sooner Josey Wales it with four cap-and-ball revolvers than count on this weird little cattle-stunner thing.
@nickolaswilcox4258 ай бұрын
@@LuisNunes-ps4sl no kidding, ive got a bp revolver with better safety than this, plus it comes from the era of paper cartridges so in theory its a relatively quick reload, the colt police has this lovely feature where you can half cock it and leave the hammer sitting between chambers where it will still require you manually fully recock but allow you to safely carry it fully loaded without leaving it on a chamber and almost no chance of it falling far enough to set it off even if the chamber does somehow end up being forced to move

If someone made this in a shop class that would be so cool ,but as a production product that seems half baked and a little dishonest to market it.

Instead of "S" and "F" on that safety, it should be like "?!" and "!?"

They are clearly using it wrong. The proper procedure is to assemble the gun without ammunition loaded in, insert the gun into a standard length or long sock. Move it to the bottom and hold the sock at it’s opening. Proceed to use it as a flail.

A Cobra Brand Derringer in .38 special that has two shots brand new was $99.95 online back when they were made in the early 2000's. And they load way easier than this Altor thing!!
@mattmarzula8 ай бұрын
And $99.95 was the equivalent of $185 now. The problem is you can't buy a Cobra .38 these days without some boomer trying to bend you over on Gun Broker. Otherwise, they're roughly the same price today after inflation.
