Thank you everyone for the nice comments :) We are very much enjoying our stay at Sara and Steve's. We feel like a little family with them and Sofiane. For the people asking, we are landing in Melbourne the 1st of September and will look for a job there. Clem is a professional pâtissier - chocolatier and looking for a pastry chef job in a bakery or café. Sven has a PHD in biology and looking for a job in research. And of coure we are also looking for a place to rent in Melbourne. A lot of you guys seems to be from Brisbane and we would be very happy to visit while we are in Australia!

“Pivot” was an unexpected pleasure and absolutely cracked me up! For years, anytime a sofa needs to be moved across the room or to a new residence, it is a requirement in my family to yell “pivot” in honor of Ross! I enjoyed perusing the garden center with you. Can’t wait to see all your new goodies in their new homes and when they grow up big and strong! Your volunteers are incredibly talented and extremely helpful... and in so many ways! I know you must be so grateful for everything they do! Fixing the power outage was incredibly fortunate and the food preparations are amazing. I’m not sure I’ve ever had homemade hamburger buns at anyone’s home before. Wow! Just wow! Those little luxuries are the things I adore! A lot of time and love goes into that! Bravo! 👏🏻😍🥰

Darkening the wood on the furniture will certainly compliment the fireplace and the fabric is light in color enough so it can handle a bit darker woof. Great find! Is it time to call in an electrician? Oops! Great looking burgers! Good job everyone!

The pink shrub is Quince possibly an ornamental variety. The traditional variety has a hard fruit that makes quince jelly and cheese.

Love your new furniture...it really fits the room nicely. The white bushes are what is known as Bridal Wreath here in B.C., anyway. I love it and I have one that is over 40 years old...a real show piece now! They grow pretty big, but lacy and when they drop their very tiny petals in the breeze, it looks like fallen snow...don't plant them too close to the entrances. Actually, we're experiencing the exact same weather you're all having in France...the South Coast, Vancouver area is mimicking your weather, but no snow here!!!! I love watching and listening to your helpers, what a blessing they must be!

That looks like a Chaenomeles or decorative flowering quince. Lovely hardly realisable and trouble free shrub. ( other colours available) Used to be called Cydonia and Jsponicas in old books It doesn’t bear the large fruits of its cousins but it will bear smalll waxy highly scented fruits in a good year and they can be made into a preserve. Place one in bowl of apples and it will scent the apples. A small fruit a good addition to an apple pie. I bought a lovely white flowered form yesterday 😀🌺

Make sure you top off plantings with straw instead of hay or grass (which will seed & you don’t want that). Love the new furniture & your volunteers.
@ManorandMaker2 жыл бұрын
It was a matter of urgency - the grass across the road was available when the forecast was calling for snow! But we'll take that for next round!
@elisabeth61082 жыл бұрын
Another hint is to use newspaper 3-4 layers thick under the straw (or any mulch) to prevent weeds. It will biodegradable in the course of a year. For a wide spaced planting like this another option is to use cardboard which will last a couple of years. With grounds the size of yours you want to minimize weeding! I mulch with compost so I am always renewing the soil as well as retaining moisture and suppressing weeds.

Your coral-flowered shrub is Flowering quince (Chaenomeles). We cut long branches when it's blooming and if the branches are crushed at the ends, they will hold for a couple of weeks in water - we use them at church. The white shrub you called snowdrops is a Spirea - all sorts of useful, long-blooming shrubs in that family. When hydrangeas are happy, they spread a lot, so five may be just fine.

Morning Steve & Sara, the chateau was extremely busy with lots going on. The furniture looks great, I am sure many happy hours will be spent in there. The volunteers are so nice, just going about their business helping and organising. The trip to the nursery was lovely, well chosen plants "for now"! Hopefully not too much sun on the hydrangeas or else the flowers will burn. It will be a beautiful show when they are more established, which will not take too long. The food is absolutely amazing, and the burger buns looked wonderful. Cannot buy that quality. It is good to see so many people living together helping and no issues. I am sure you will agree, making France as your final destination for a lifestyle was a excellent choice. Many happy days (year) Kind regards
