I have seen people asking whether this Aircraft carrier could solve world hunger? To them I got only one answer. 95% of Indian trade is through sea. If the enemy could block those trade routes at a time of war you could literally starve and be jobless. A strong navy is essential for India. And India needs another carrier.

It's not even a BIT obsolete. We have anti carrier missiles too(Agni Prime) but China is also making carriers. It is just that the defensive and offensive capabilities of countries keep enhancing so we have to modernise according to that. Also it is not easy to target a moving carrier, that too with a carrier battle group with many air defence systems. Also the MIG 29k issues were from 2016 and they have been resolved to a great extent and the current availability rate of mig 29k is 70% which is quite decent.

Even US is moving towards small ships ie frigates and destroyers, because they are cheaper to build and maintain. US is heavily investing on Babu clear submarines, because they are the next game changers in naval warfare. Aircraft carriers nowadays are more suited for long range reconnaissance and ground attack roles, because its not economical to even repair a damaged supercarrier. The naval warfare is shifting towards smaller ships with more attack capability.

My reply to Mr Deshbhakt. Some of The points raised in your video are either dumb, outdated or entirely misleading at places, where as some of your points are genuinely correct. 1. The aircraft carrier was supposed to be ready in just 10 years with a budget of only a billion dollars which is really really dumb because it was our first try making such a thing so obviously the project needed more money and time because we had to do a lot of r&d and testing on related subsystems Also many of the technologies needed in the carrier were made in-house because either the foreign vendors were taking too much time or outright denied India access to those technologies (E.g Russia denying naval grade steel, because of some clauses) and we had to develop those technologies from scratch costing extra money and delays. (however a delay of 7 years is still not acceptable). Also let's not forget to account for the delays caused by COVID. 2. AFC is not fully incorporated into the aircraft because the price negotiations with Russia for the India specific design changes in the AFC are still going on, and CSL isn't rushing this deal because they know we won't be getting aircrafts needed to operate from the carrier before 2024, IT'S NOT A PROBLEM, IT'S A CALCULATED DECISION to get a better deal. 3. No naval platform in the entire world has ever became battle ready on the day of handing over, Take Fujian for example it too was launched this year, but even that carrier is not battle ready yet. making a carrier battle ready is not the work of the shipyard it's the work of navy and since the carrier was handed over today, navy started the work of making it battle ready only now. (While this method of induction is old school and is getting ineffective in modern times, it's something that can't be changed overnight) A better criticism would be to ask whyare we still using such old school method of ship induction and why aren't all the radars installed yet. 4. The problems mentioned in mig 29k are true, but it's equally true that when the negotiations for a carrier based aircraft were going on we only (in reality) had a single option Russia, because no other country was willing to sell a naval aircraft of similar performance and customisation for that cost (namely America) also none of the other fighters offered were able to perform from Vikramaditya at an optimum level (because of ski jump, small lift size etc). But as of 2022, many of the capability deficiencies of mig29k are patched using Indian and Israeli subsystems, but there are still some problems in the aircrafts that can't be patched by changing subsystems, nevertheless the aircraft has an availability rate of 70% which is not that bad. 4. Navy has reiterated this many times that making a 3rd aircraft carrier will not hamper its plans for turning Andaman into an unsinkable aircraft carrier and development of both are equally important, and one should not be discounted because of the other. We need 3 aircraft carriers because vikramaditya is Riddled with problems (Russians ne chuna laga diya) and may not be able to complete it's intended 40 years service so if we want to keep even our current capabilities intact need to start the work on the 3rd carrier instantly. Also if ever the need arises to completely block the Indian Ocean for foreign ships we need to block 4 main points strait of Malacca, horn of Africa, areas near cape of good hope and areas near Australia, we have Andaman to take care of Malacca strait but we will need an aircraft carrier to block the horn of Africa for unfriendly nations. Also, while we do have a base in agalega islands to block any unfriendly access into the Indian Ocean from cape of good hope it isn't very effective and we may need an aircraft carrier there to do so effectively. With the rising cooperation between Pacific island Nations and china that day isn't far off when Chinese battle groups would be able to circle around Australia and reach into Indian Ocean without having to worry about fuel and other essential supplies and to effectively counter those warships we need an aircraft carrier deployed there. 5. carrier killer missiles like df21 make all aircraft carriers sitting ducks but still other countries are investing in them even after knowing the risks involved, WHY? heck even the Chinese are investing in aircraft carriers even though they have a carrier killer missile and they should know how aircraft carriers are now obsolete, better than anyone else. Just because bullets got invented doesn't mean infantry became obsolete. Missiles like df21 will not make carriers obsolete instead they will just force carriers to evolve and be more maneuverable and have more air defence systems like SAM's, CIWS, DEW's etc 5. Our Missile defence sheild is pretty strong and we are already spending a lot of money on making it better, we either have or are currently developing SAM's like akash, QRSAM, VLSRSAM, LRSAM, PDV, AAD, etc Nearly all of our ships have multi tiered air defence system and use variety of systems like Barak 1, MRSAM, ak630 etc 6. India too is working on carrier killer missiles namely the anti ship variant of Agni prime, brahmos 2k, hstdv based missiles etc, also we already have limited anti ship capabilities thanks to bramhos. 7. You really want navy to spend money on an unproven design (submersible aircraft career) even though we both know how tight India's defence budget is, let someone else perfect the technology and we will follow if the design proves to be viable 8. A better criticism would be to ask why is the lift of vikrant so small (although it's explainable but still it shows our short sightedness and how we forgot to take US aircrafts into account) 9. Let's not talk about India's military industrial complex when you don't know anything about it, (our defence products take so much time because even the smallest of subsystems are made by a bunch of incompetent government companies and when these companies fail to meet the deadline, we are forced to import those subsystems thus causing delays and cost overruns). Indian military industrial complex is an unfunny joke in itself so leave it for some other time Also, thanks if you read my such a long rant.

1) We also have Agni Prime missiles that can be used in a similar manner as the Chinese DF-21. So carriers aren't obsolete, it's just that countries keep developing better offensive and defensive capabilities. 2) China itself is making more and more aircraft carriers(super carriers) despite India having developed Agni Prime and progressing more in the hypersonic missile sector. So carriers aren't obsolete. 3) There are various aur defence systems like Barak-8, VL-SRSAM, CIWS in all ships in a carrier group. And we are moving towards direct energy/laser based systems for air defence and offense too. 4) Our one entire carrier battle group sanitizes and controls an area of 400-500 km² which can't be done via Andaman & Nicobar Islands. 5) No VTOL fighters because we'll have to start an entirely new project for them. Only present VTOL options are F-35B and C variants and they are expensive to buy and maintain also. They are very advanced but also have a few functional problems so even the US Navy has gone for more FA-18 SH Block 3s instead of F-35s. 6) Issues with the Mig-29k have been resolved to a great extent and now their availability rate is 70%. We didn't have any other fighter options for INS Vikramaditya as NATO/western fighters were banned to operate from a Russian carrier (INS Vikramaditya is Russian). 7) The F/A-18 SH Block 3s are only gap fillers till the time we develop and induct indigenous nava fighter TEDBF which will happen before 2030.

According to his logic, if aircraf carriers can sinked then airports can also get destroyed so why make them? Because hitting it with accuracy is absolutely not efficient and number of missiles required+to defy the air protection system will require triple or 4x amount of missiles that will be required to completely destroy airport/carrier. I disagree with you on Aircraft carriers becoming obsolete. Firstly, every great naval power, USA, UK, France, China are all investing in aircraft carriers, even Japan is now building aircraft carriers. Secondly, aircraft carriers and small naval ships like submarines have very different roles, while a ballistic missile submarine is a good deterrent, it can't project power like an aircraft carrier. For securing our maritime trade routes, submarines, frigates and destroyers won't work, we need aircraft carriers. Also, China launching a missile at an Indian aircraft carrier is extremely unlikely. That would mean a full scale war declaration, I don't think China is that stupid. An aircraft carriers purpose isn't to launch a full scale invasion of a country, it's purpose is power projection and muscle flexing, to secure maritime security and trade routes.

That is for three reasons - first, while undertaking missions, aircraft carriers maintain complete radio silence, what this means is no equipment on the ship emits any kind of electromagnetic waves which makes it difficult for electronic intelligence gathering equipment present on board maritime patrol aircraft to detect them using their passive sensors. Secondly, looking for an aircraft sailing through the high seas, even when it is not maintaining radio silence, is excruciatingly difficult. The earth's curvature, makes their detection through active sensors (like radars) mounted on smaller ships beyond the horizon very difficult. And with the radio emissions completely turned off, the only alternative the enemy if left with is visual identification through an aircraft flying high above or a submarine through its sonar. Thirdly, aircraft carriers are almost always accompanied by a Carrier Battle group, consisting of attack submarines, destroyers and frigates equipped with surface-to-air, anti-ship missiles and torpedoes to ward off hostile submarines and aircraft. 2) Navies across the world are investing heavily in aircraft carriers. UK has inducted two 65,000 tonne displacement aircraft carriers between 2017 and 2019. The French are going ahead with the development of a 75,000 tonne Nuclear powered aircraft carrier to augment their existing 40,000 tonne carrier. The Chinese recently launched their 80,000 tonne Type-003 carrier and had inducted two 65,000 tonne carriers between 2012 and 2018. By 2030, they will be operating 5 aircraft carriers. 3) Aircraft Carriers make intervention by a foreign navy a lot more hassle-worthy. They are great instruments of deterrence. Even if you have a constellation of many satellites, even then triangulating the location of the aircraft within the margin of error it takes to achieve a missile hit would be insanely difficult to arrive at.

We can also take this into consideration that the aircraft carriers which have radio silence have still been sunk in wars ig, take uss card which was destroyed in Vietnam war for example. And even if we want to know the location of the aircraft carrier, the enemy could still use intelligence to determine the departure time, arrival time and the path for the same. I think there are many ways to destroy an aircraft carrier, I wont say that your point isn't right cause that's not true, but I would surely say that I don't think aircraft carriers are 'untouchable' to the missiles.

1. Even the Chinese navy and USA navy are increasing the strngth of their aircraft carrier fleet. 2. Talking about DF-21, the core operational area of Vikrant is Indian ocean and Df-21 cant reach Indian ocean 3. Additional, if INS Vikrant is depliyed in South China sea, INS Arihant laced with K-4 will be leading it and destroy the potential sites of DF-21 missiles. Moreover, the 7th fleet of USA Navy is continously drployed in South China and Sea of Japan. The lead ship of this naval group is an AC. This AC is protected with the help of support fleet and SM-3 airdefence system.7 4. Talking about the S-400 point, India is already developing the XR-SAM with similar capabilities. 5. India has already developed laser weapons. Please read anout Durga weapon systems. 6. Kaveri isnt a failure. It will be used to power the AURA UCAV. Similarly, the core of Kaveri is being upgraded so as to to satisfy the demands of Tejas Mk1 and Mk1A. 7. The delay in INS Vikrant is mainly due to special steel rrquired to contlstruct the AC. Initially, India decided the buy such steel from Russia. But Russia refused to supply. This forced SAIL, DRDO and other labs of MOD to develop the steel indigenously. This also increased the budget of the AC 8. The flaws in mig 29K were anather reason for delay. It forced KSL to change design of lifts so as to allow accomodation of Rafale-M and F/A-18 Super Hornet. So, the issues. 9. 2003-04, when Mig29s were acquired, USA and its western alliesnwerent ready to suppky India with their state of art tech. So, India was forced to select Mig-29k.

The organization has to work on a lot of government projects that are unrelated to defense as that is the only way funding can be maintained. I Disagree. AC are moving targets and unless you have high intensity cross section radars, it cannot be detected, even by sattelites. AC don't go alone. They are an army of themselves. Sinking that ship is almost impossible. We already have multiple naval bases in the Indian ocean

Akash, about the DF-21 carrier killer : while it is fired from a mobile unit, it's a land based carrier, it needs solid, stable land, and a large area. It cannot be fired off road. The firing vehicle needs 300m x 300m land area to move, this can only be fired on good roads, or specifically made land based launch bases. Meaning, the presence of Aircraft carriers in Indian Navy is a significant boost to our defence capabilities.
