A thought-provoking talk by Prof. Balram which is still relevant after 7 years. I think all higher education systems in India need to retrospect to attract good researchers and give them a free hand to excel in their area of expertise. INSA also needs to recognise researchers who achieved well in their research area despite not having a prominent research group.

Thank you Sir. Listening to you is something as pleasant as a meditation. Those rankings might help us find our coordinates in the graphs, which is insightful. But I feel we should not take important policy decisions keeping those rankings in mind, at least not till our institutions reaches a certain maturity. I would like to disagree with you on the focusing on the quantity first. I think first we should focus on improving the quality of whatever quantity of research we currently produce. Quantity must follow eventually. To start with we should teach our kids the way of doing science rather than bombarding them with discrete scientific information blocks. And yes, definitely it would 'a bit longer' than the publication of the next year's ranking. Q & A session was quiet disappointing. Thanks INSA for sharing this wonderful presentation. As others suggested , the title could have been more expressive.

Very nice lecture, with a thorough analysis. We have a long long way to go to achieve top positions for our Institutions and Universities. The fate of state universities, better not to talk about it.

If you put the lecture title little better (or elaborate) there might be more eyes chinking it. E.g. INSA Public Lecture by Prof. P. Balaram on Ranking Indian Institutions : Choosing Courses for Horses. Just "INSA Public Lecture" doesn't convey what the talk is about. Just a suggestion.

Very good suggestion. But obviously, INSA has not paid attention.
