Every summer I spend on my Alaska land a bear gets too close to me for my comfort….. but the bears always let me live, so while I enjoy hunting, I don’t plan on any bear hunting (but generally carry guns big enough to put down the bear if he decides I’m on the menu)…. This last summer I was asleep in my unfinished cabin (only 3 walls up) and woke up with a bear on the other side of the wall sniffing around trying to figure out what was on the other side of the wall from him (meaning me)…. I turned on music and lights after getting my pistol in my hand, then called a buddy I knew would be awake at that hour…. Glad it never tried coming in the cabin.

Always the heart, this way it’s an immediate drop. If you hit lungs it’s a slower death. This on top of being inhumane and stupid allows allows adrenaline and other body chemicals into the meat. This will make it tough and will taste like crap.

Also, black bear meat is delicious as long as it’s not eating trash and stuff. Some the best tasting wild meat there is, less gamey tasting than any deer, elk, moose etc.

They are usually expired in 3-5 seconds. Sometimes they don’t travel more than a step or two. Sometimes they could travel up to 100 yards

I think we should think more about just ending something’s life for amusement. Saying you should kill something is like me murdering a homeless man cause I can.
