@johnblackhorn

Not it doesn’t you need to learn your the rules of the road. THE LAW says to prepare to stop not just stop. Car crossing traffic must yield at all times! GET IT Right
@MrBattlecharge
@MrBattlecharge Ай бұрын
@johnblackhorn from California DMV : "Solid Yellow Light solid yellow light A yellow traffic signal light means CAUTION. The light is about to turn red. When you see a yellow traffic signal light, stop, if you can do so safely. If you cannot stop safely, cautiously cross the intersection." Texas was similar, but the text was not selectable so I couldn't copy and paste it. Florida and New York were probably more in line with what you said; it is a warning that the lights are about to turn red. Considering, though, that the two most populous states - accounting for more than 20% of the US population - say to stop, if safe to do so, it should probably be considered the rule that more people will know. Pennsylvania (5th), Georgia (8th) and Michigan (10th) also in line with what I said, taking the total to over 33% of the population. The 5 of the top 10 that were in line with what you said (Illinois, Ohio and North Carolina) account for about 25% of the population. I'm not going to check the other States.
@MrBattlecharge
@MrBattlecharge Ай бұрын
@johnblackhorn also, I got to ask - do you think "preparing to stop" means increasing speed? Because over here where people use their brains, it means calculate if you can make it through the intersection in time before they turn red and if not then you stop.

Do me a favor people, put your phone down. If something is important wait for it to be safer to call them back. If there is a text, text back later. Please kids learned to put your phone away. The only time you need to use the phone is to call an emergency number. I'm deaf and will not use my Bluetooth to make a call. And I will not text either. It's dangerous enough for others to have to deal with DUI behind the wheel. Stay safe out there people.

@@Shane-fh4uu that's true. I live in the busiest traffic. And everyday I looked out the window and watched out for the drivers. Especially students are getting dropped off here and I would see one or two cars pass the school bus and fear if either don't care or are distracted. It's a shame though. Er, I'm sorry but the truck had got to the other side, then swung back across in front of the Honda, who was quite a distance away from the junction, so apart from stopping every time someone pulls from a side road I don't see how anyone could avoid this. The Honda did brake once the truck started coming back across, lot that helped, truck 100% to blame.

@Duetmaster2 Ай бұрын
I came down here looking for a comment on this. Sure, the Marquis is legally at fault and you can claim he's impatient as well, if you like. But they're both being impatient and both pushing a yellow light and both equally at fault. This accident is avoided if either one was sensible and just waited until the next signal.
@bankaltthree9139
@bankaltthree9139 Ай бұрын
Legally speaking its always the car turning across the traffic that's going to be at fault, all they have to do is go into the intersection and clear it when they can, not when they have someone speeding to go through the yellow. It does not matter if the other person is speeding, it is on you to make sure your turn is safe.
@dherzog02
@dherzog02 Ай бұрын
The failure to yield was the cause of the collision. We don't know if the red car was even exceeding the speed limit but it certainly wasn't fast enough to be a factor. The driver should have seen the red car and recognized that it was not stopping. It is entirely the fault of the driver making an unprotected left who failed to yield.
@agoraphobiccdub5140
@agoraphobiccdub5140 Ай бұрын
I absolutely hate the law protecting the red light runners. That red car was going way faster than the previous truck was and blasted through the red light. It was barely yellow for a split second when he entered the intersection. In a sane legal system, the red car would be held responsible as well, if not more so.
@bankaltthree9139
@bankaltthree9139 Ай бұрын
@@agoraphobiccdub5140 he didn't run the red light he was in the intersection on the yellow, the other car didn't yield to the car that had the right of way, the legal system is sane and meant to clearly establish fault based on the rules of the road. If you cant tell the other car is slowing down when its approaching the intersection that fast, you might not wanna go in front of it.

Some of these accidents look somewhat minor, yet the cars are considered totaled?
@Hexnilium
@Hexnilium Ай бұрын
Many people use the word totaled incorrectly. It is supposed to mean that the cost to repair the vehicle is more than the vehicle is worth, or some monetary threshold that insurance deems too expensive to repair. Because bodywork is very pricey, it doesn't take much to "total" a vehicle, especially if it's a cheaper and or older model.
@jarwebb42

If the amount of damage is greater than the cost of the cars worth they call it totalled even if it is fixable. People just say totalled to make it sound more dramatic
@huntakilla1234
@huntakilla1234 Ай бұрын
A car is totaled when the costs of repairing the damage outweighs the value of the car. So, lets say you drive a 20 year old car and it's a total piece of crap, you get into a small accident and the costs of repair is 2k, but the car is worth 500 bucks, it's considered totaled.
@zion9344
@zion9344 Ай бұрын
People here in the comments are getting a total loss wrong. I write collision repair estimates, so I see cars totalled every day. The way that this actually works, is that the car will have a valuation based on the condition of the paint, interior, and mileage. Insurance will repair up to a certain threshold of that price. Industry standard (Used by Safeco/lm, state farm, progressive, GEICO, farmers, and others) is 75%. So if your car is worth 10k, they will repair up to 7.5k, and if it goes beyond that they will total it out and pay you out based on the value they gave the car. They do this because it tends to be cheaper than paying for a rental and to get you a rental, plus they get to recoup some of their money when they part the totalled car out at a scrap yard.

@@freedomwillneverdie6600 lucky you 👍. I said/wrote it because I saw several cars slip in the rain. And when I see video's like Just Roled In, I notice that many cars are in a very bad condition. Such wrecks would not pass the yearly or two-yearly car check at all, here in Europe. I have my M+S tyres mounted because here in the Ardennes, it can become pretty snowy and muddy ( Battle of the Bulge area).

#3 "Honda could have avoided this by slowing down when the truck was turning." Yeah, but if the truck hadn't pulled out, without enough room to do so safely then accident wouldn't have happened. Clearly hit the gas hard cause they knew they didn't have enough time. (and had a skill issue in controling their vehicle) #34 "The brakes were ineffective and the slushy snow caused the braking distance to be insufficient.", erm, ok, true, but also if you are driving to the road conditions and paying attention to the car slowing infront in said conditions you wouldn't have caused the accident. No need to blame the brakes.

@bowlmn
@bowlmn Ай бұрын
@@stanleykirby2937 It was 47kph which is about 30mph. But the driver went up to 50kph and didn't seem to hit the brakes until almost upon the truck in front of them. But trying to blame the brakes and the road is a nice deflect for their bad driving.

Yeah #3 is a doozy, but are we going to ignore the fact that someone bought a 2009 rx8 with an insurance payout? Youre either going to shell out money to get the apex seals replaced, or just keep pouring oil into it as it burns from driving it. You never buy an old rotary mazda unless you already have the money or know how to work on them. What a waste of new car money

#22 is a great example of why you never turn your wheels while waiting in a turn lane. If they'd had them turned towards where they were going they would have been pushed into oncoming traffic. Keep you wheels straight until you intend to turn.

Pickups and SUVs roll over if you look at the hard. Interesting that sedans have more stringent regulations, one of which is rollover. Pickups and SUVs get a pass and don't have to adhere to the same safety regulations.

@MrBattlecharge
@MrBattlecharge Ай бұрын
@B345T1N355Official I think you will find that any person who is in an accident while try to leave their parking space was "in the process of backing out", so that argument won't hold water. You would need to establish a point at which any reasonable person would have been able to see the driver backing out with due time and space to stop before contact. And this premise also exists on roads - drivers turning onto a roadway already in use are almost always at fault, because they take away the other driver's cushion (time and space) to avoid accidents while also placing a barrier in their way. Drivers cannot be expected to see every inch of the road around them at all times - we're only bifocal, not 36-eyes-viewing-every-10-degree-direction-continuously-focal, maybe you're checking the blindspot on the other side of the vehicle or looking behind you to make sure nobody is trying to ram 3 tonnes of steel up your bumper. It is like the original comment said, person backing out is at fault. And luckily it is a parking lot, so the insurance companies get to battle it out without police involvement.
