Some say watching part 3 will ruin the first two Terminator movies. I disagree with this notion. I enjoyed Terminator 3. It was entertaining and there, of course, is a new terminator. I don't understand how watching a movie can take away from another. If one never watches, then they'll never know. Great reaction, btw. I always look forward to more.

Robert Patrick was a waiter at a restaurant my fiance went to as a kid with his family almost every weekend, he was very friendly and chatty with them and his family, on his last day there he told my fiance and his family he is leaving for Hollywood and going to try to make it as an actor, in less than 2 yrs later he got this role. He is one of the best villains ever!!!

Sarah Connor is one of the best female action heroes ever. She started out as a young, scared waitress, and really had to put in the work to become a hero... both her character AND the actress. Linda Hamilton worked REALLY hard to get in shape, and she trained like a beast for those fight scenes. Unlike many female action stars, when Sarah fought people, it was believable when she kicked their ass.

One of the fun facts I learned about this movie is that Robert Patrick taught himself to shoot without flinching. All humans normally flinch just a bit whenever they fire a gun, and it take a lot of practice to stop yourself. Not flinching was just one of the things that Patrick did in this film to make his performance seem more robotic and Terminator-esque. ✌😁

Despite being used briefly in some earlier films, this was THE movie that put CGI on the map. The effects are still mostly practical, even the T-1000 effects, but some of the T-1000's CG effects were mindblowing in 1991 because we'd never seen anything like it.

Fun fact, when the T1000 copies people you don't see any bad 1990's blue screen artifacts because they only used identical twins. That includes Linda Hamilton's twin sister at the climax of the movie.

One of the most amazing practical effects I've ever seen in a film was also in this, in the extended cut which you watched, in which they cut into Arnold's head and pull out the chip inside. They did it using a false mirror, Linda Hamilton's twin sister, and an Arnold dummy. Pretty amazing shot.

The rest of the series isn't terrible, they just pale in comparison. T2 really did blow people's minds as you thought, so expectations were super high for part 3. They really aren't bad movies, just disappointing that they never got close to the level of T2 again. Personally, I would watch your reactions if you did them all.

Great video! Terminator 2 is spectacular! And yes the CGI still looks great. The thing with CGI, it’s not just about the quality of the CGI itself, it’s how the filmmaker shoots and shows the CG effects within the film. How the filmmaker shoots and lights the CGI within the film goes a long way towards selling the illusion. Something else the director, James Cameron, did since a lot of the film takes place outside at night, he lit the actors in blue light. A short hand for communicating the night setting, while still lighting the actors and scenes clearly so you could see the actors and what’s happening in the scene. So lot of conflicting opinions regarding the Terminator sequels. I’m not telling anyone what to do, I’m just offering my opinion. My opinion, it’s a big world with so many wonderful films from so many diverse talents telling unique stories in unique ways. It’s not worth the time to go into the Terminator sequels beyond this one when there are so many other great and classic films to discover and explore. Only the first two Terminator films are directed by James Cameron. After those, other people came in basically to keep a money making franchise going. There was never the innovation and creativity again as we saw with the first two Terminator films.

There’s literally over a century of great American films that span all manner of genres and film styles you haven’t even scratched the surface of yet. So I know there’s a lot of requests and demand for you to see the big splashy Hollywood spectacles. They’re big fun movies that the nation took in as a cultural moment. But there are also the straight forward films of a human drama that you haven’t really dived to deep into on the channel. There are American classics of the golden age of Hollywood. Black and white films from the 50s and before. There are also more offbeat, eccentric filmmakers who’ve made incredibly beloved cult classics. A cult classic being a film that may not have the massive mainstream audience, but is deeply and loyally loved by its fan base. There is also the world of independent films and art house cinema from America. Often films made by independent filmmakers who’ve raised the funds for their films outside the studio system. They make the kinds of films a big studio that doesn’t like taking risks would never make on their own. You haven’t really touched on this at all. And this is all within American cinema. Some of the directors of cult classics and or independent films have gone on to become important and culturally significant films and filmmakers in the history of American cinema. Now of course there’s overlap between the cult classics and independent films. I’m going include a list of films of these two categories. And these films run the gamut of genres, tone, and styles. There are even indie comedies included here. No, no need to continue beyond T2: It’s only downhill from here on. Plus, you just watched the special edition which has a very different ending than the original theatrical version: The theatrical version had a much more open ending which led naturally to the following sequel(s), while this one ends the duology with Skynet never existing and judgement day being avoided, so the dystopian future we’ve seen since the first movie never exists and this clashes with the narrative of the sequels (And this alternate ending is much, much better)

Back in the 70's lots of kids rode around town on motorcycles (mostly without helmets). Sometimes the cops would chase them but it was semi rural back then and the bikes would just hit the dirt trails and would gone. Kind of like the kid Kelly in 'Bad News Bears', kids on motorcycles was common where I grew up in Orange County CA.

This was pretty much the first blockbuster to use CGI extensively, but James Cameron made it look great because he played into the strengths of the technology: 90's CGI was great at smooth reflective surfaces but couldn't do translucency like skin or fine detail like hair, so he just made the villain a reflective metal blob and called it a day. Genius, honestly. He and his animators also clearly paid close attention to matching the lighting between live-action and CGI, which is the other big downfall of bad CGI. Someone else has probably mentioned this, but the helicopter effects were... um.... As Cameron said in the commentary: “See this helicopter going under a freeway overpass? That’s a helicopter going under a freeway overpass.” The camera crew refused to film it because of how outrageously dangerous it was, but the stunt pilot was game to do it, so Cameron filmed it himself.

Another amazing use of practical FX in this film is when they blow up Cyberdyne Systems... they actually bought a building so they could really blow it up. Though there's another example of something similar, even more extreme though, when they demolish a hospital in The Dark Knight. They found a real hospital that was already scheduled for demolition and filmed it.

Saw this opening night with my mom. Right before you see Arnold reroute power, a guy in the audience yelled, "All those who believe in The Terminator clap your hands." The Terminator's eye glowed red and the theatre erupted!

I watched this movie when I was a teen for the first time at the theater and was blown away. Watched it several times over the years. Recently watched it for the first time on a 4k ultra HD DVD and the opening future war scene which always scared me but it's absolutely terrifying in 4k. It also had an extended version of the film with a lot deleted scenes not in the theatrical cut in it. I suggest picking it up for anyone who loves T2 and has a 4k TV for the future war scene if nothing else. You feel like you're right there in the war.

Great reaction and you are the first reactor i have seen that actually picked up on the 3rd arm the T1000 had in the helicopter, also later after the T1000 is frozen smashed and then reformed it was not quite working right and when we later see his hand stick to the railing it was to show that the T1000 was starting to malfunction. As for the other films well yeah they do tend to go down hill quick and they are weaker than the 2 originals but they are still worth a watch.

I have to admit, I actually like the 3rd one. I know I'm in the minority on that but I really like where the story went with John and Kate and how it ended. The villain was kinda dumb though. Nobody can light a candle to Robert Patrick's T-1000!

One little clip in this movie that I don't think many people took notice of was when the terminator cop melted through the bars the gun he was holding had to be shifted around so it would go through,I haven't seen any reactor take notice of that,it was just a great little addition to the script.

When Sarah shoots a hole In his head the first shot you see isn't cgi. It's a real sculpt of the actors head. There's no cgi until you see the back of his head. Same with when Arnold shoots him in the head in the elevator. That shot you see when his two sides of his head are moving around that isn't cgi either its a real sculpt/animatronic the special effects people made. When the two sides of his skull are forming back together there's cgi though. It looks so good because they mixed real sculpts and animatronics with cgi to heighten the effect.

The third movie is underrated, in my opinion. In fact, for me, it's by FAR the best of the movies that follow T2. No, it doesn't quite fit with the tone of the first two. (No wonder, as James Cameron is no longer directing/writing.) But it has a lot going for it, especially when you adjust your expectations accordingly.

James Cameron made the T-1000 a cop because he didn't share your thanks to ALL police. The LAPD were out of control, and Cameron saw it even before the Rodney King beating. Ironically, someone who has just been watching and videotaping the shooting of the biker bar exterior scene for T2, found cause to pull out his camcorder again later that night, when he saw officers beating King within an inch of his life. That tape, which was shown on every news channel, and entered into evidence at trial, had behind the scenes footage from T2 on it, right before the beating footage started. Cameron's decision to make the evil Terminator a soulless, relentless killer, hiding behind a facade we've been conditioned to trust, was calculated commentary.

I see you had the extended cut. The scenes where T-1000 seems to be malfunctioning by unintentionally having parts meld with the surrounding was not in the original theatrical release. It was later revealed that he took so much damage, particularly from being frozen, that he was malfunctioning, and that he was so close to his target he ignored going into repair mode. As few others pointed out, the franchise does go downhill from here, but for me part 3 "Rise of the Machines" is a bit of a guilty pleasure.

Under the highway where the T1000 appears is the same location used by JC in True Lies, where Helen meets Simon (in Washington DC). JC used bikers and not actors for the biker bar scene. The 3D imaging system used by ILM was so bleeding edge that it had issues, and Photoshop artists were hired to do fixes in post. Contractually ILM wasn't allowed to disclose this. Some of the locations used in the film (the computer lab and the mental hospital) were damaged during construction and were slated for demolition from a recent earthquake. Production got them cheap and they could do whatever they wanted to them (e.g. blow them up). If you like Xander Berkeley moves (ok that's a stretch, yes), try watching Shanghai Noon (Jackie Chan / Owen Wilson)

Wow great reaction. I’ve seen this movie a million times but this is the first time I’ve ever seen the extended version. Never knew Kyle Reese was in this one cuz that was one of those edited scenes. Same when T-1000 got his hand stuck to the metal fence.

I don't disagree with the fact that the rest of the Terminators are trash, but the Terminator 3 cast commentary track is hilarious and kind of worth the watch just for Arnie. Also I think that the thing that T2 is cinematic peak for is that they actually did most things. Need a Truck to be driven off a bridge into the LA River? Just drive a truck off a bridge. Need to fly a Helicopter under a bridge? Just fly a Helicopter under a bridge. Today it would be 100% more flashy, but all done with CGI. There's something special about just seeing things actually be done.

Still the best sequel ever! Special effects in this movie look as good today as they did when this movie came out. Thats how influential this movie was. It was good of John to get rid of the piece of metal attached to the car. Think of the liquid metal as tons of microscopic computers working together. It would basically act as a GPS so the T-1000 would know exactly where they are if John had kept it.

Robert Patrick who played the liquid metal T-1000 was also the “handler” for the team on the more recent CBS show Scorpion. I sometimes get him confused with Ray Liotta as they have a similar look to me.

Even though lots of special effects were used, James Cameron did use practical effects when possible. The security guard who was killed at the coffee machine had an identical twin, so he was "killed" by his twin (that had to be fun, in a perverse way). Linda Hamilton's twin sister was used in the final battle as well. Her sister, Leslie, lived in my hometown (Mount Laurel, NJ) for years, and it was stunning to see her in the produce aisle of the supermarket. Leslie was a nurse at our hospital. She passed away in 2020. As you watch more James Cameron's films, you'll notice that there are lots of tractor trailers in them, if possible. This is because he was a truck driver as a young man and he likes giving them a shout out.

Terminator Dark Fate is supposed to be the direct sequel to this movie. The story follows this movie and was the only sequel after T2 that James Cameron wrote for but I did enjoy Terminator Salvation.

I saw this in the theater when I was a teenager with my friends and were blown away by the CGI. We had never seen anything remotely close to this before. I remember seeing James Camerons Abyss and thinking wow I don't know how he's going to top these "special effects" as we called them back then. This movie still holds up and is still awesome. James Cameron is an incredible story teller and director for sure.

Also have to agree with everyone saying that all the other Terminator films after this are not really worth watching. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and the most recent one Terminator Dark Fate (whch acts as if T3, Salvation, and Genisys never happened), are both *okay*... but... there are so many other superior films out there that you could be watching instead so no point wasting your time. T2 ties up the Terminator story perfectly anyway.

Anyone who watches these reactions and even the reactor themselves, need to go and watch Terminator Sarah Connor chronicles even though its only 2 seasons, well worth the watch plus you get to even more advanced model of the t-1000 in the second season.. Which is soo very cool..

The CGI effects are so good because they don't hide, they don't have to. These days CG is often betrayed when what is really shot switches to CG, which they always try to make look like it was shot in camera. There is a distinct lack of disguising through editing which was always more effective and has been used in the effects industry forever before the age of CG. Here the CGI to real to CGI effects are in the one shot, Cameron doesn't cut from real to CG because he doesn't have to. He establishes what it looks like for the T1000 to change, in obvious stages. He's not trying to blend CG with real and pretend like there isn't a join. He shows you the join, so the obvious transition becomes part of the visual world and we simply accept it. Even Spielberg, a couple of years after this film, would still be using the tried and tested technique of cutting between effects shots and animatronic shots.

This was the first R rated movie my mom actually allowed me to watch back in the 90s, it was that good. I am with the crowd that advises you to leave it at this film. Best ending, best sequel. I recommend watching "The Last Action Hero" with Arnold, as it has great cameos fresh off T2.

The franchise split after T2. I think the better fork in the road was the TV series "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." Think of the two paths as parallel universes. While it got cut short at 2 seasons, TTSCC is a pretty good watch. It stays faithful to the 1st 2 movies but redeems Sarah, who grows out of her deep misanthropy in T2 a lot.

Those effects were great cause ILM took similar concept for 1986's movie The Abyss. I highly recommend watching that movie especially if you loved the effects.

Consider yourself lucky for not watching this until now. When this first came out, part of the promotion of this movie was them letting everyone know that Arnold was the good guy. The original trailer even showed the scene of him swearing not to kill anyone.
