I read one comment that said she was an assistant chief, and that was likely a desk job. The charitable take was that she would hardly ever be expected to enter a burning building. The PR blunder was to call attention to the expectation of physical prowess, and that she was unlikely to meet it. Does the Fire Dept have a substantial staff who are _not_ firefighters? Is she one of those? Maybe that was explained in the parts of the original video we didn't see. I don't know.

As someone that scored a perfect 100 on my LA City Firefighter interview, departments in California like Ventura to the immediate north have allowed women unlimited time to complete physical tests that would disqualify men if not completed in time. So, not only are they not qualified to do the job from the time of hiring, but then they are pushed to the highest positions in the department without the necessary communication skills to perform in those positions either.

I live in a county with a phenomenal firefighting force. When husband was in his final 18 months, he had several middle of the night medical emergencies, and they came right out with the paramedics to help. They were so calm, courteous and helpful, and knew just what to do. While I remember they were big men (they looked huge in their gear, and really fill a house quickly), I honestly can’t recall if they were black, white, brown or yellow. I don’t care. And I really don’t care about who they like to sleep with or how they identify. I do care they were quick, well trained, competent, strong, smart and caring. That’s it.

That reservoir has zero to do w fighting the fire and water at hydrants. Water in the reservoir still needed to be treated and pumped into the distribution system. Fire hydrant water is the same tester that comes out of your kitchen and bathroom faucets....it has been treated at the water treatment plant. Absolutely no water system in the USA would be able to fight the fires that were occurring in California - when there is a mass fire event, having dozens of hydrants open across the water system will always mean there isn't the water pressure needed in many areas to operate other hydrants. Hydrants put forth water through hoses by gravity pressure....there are no suction pumps or pumps on the fire trucks - that means you hook up the fire hose and open the hydrant valve. The proof is in basic hydraulics - the water system is a pressurized system that is a series of water pipes, elevation head and pumping head are what provide pressure....when you open dozens of hydrants, that means the system is more and more open to atmosphere and eventually the system will work to equal the atmosphere. It would be uneconomical and invasive to install a water system that would be capable of having that many hydrants in use at the same time. C

@@Hello_11345 Aren't pump trucks pretty normal? They couldn't add a lot of head, but we pay for the expensive equipment for a reason... I agree it wouldn't likely make a big difference if there were reservoirs (although they have the potential for standpipes to be set up here and there; you could pick a canyon to fill and get 1000 gpm static flow, with all the elevation they have to work with). But it would have been a good step to make the attempt to help themselves.

I work at a Toyota Battery plant in NC and DEI is so heavy here that they would rather hire based on what boxes you check on an application rather than qualifications. Locals are being pushed out because of this crazy policy. Even the firefighters are so out of shape and overweight that they can’t even walk with there equipment on.
