@13:27 That zoom in for double shot and upgrade. YES! I was sitting here thinking, 'he's got to crack those shells, when's he hitting double shot?'. Following round, boom. You stabilize. For sure that oil did immense work, but I love buying time before that with the beacon'ed crawlers. Also props for the editing. A fantastic game and great video!

The way to defend this early game is to do vertical positioning on your storms and chaff in front of tower. The downside is if they play standard balls you're screwed. However, stangs and scorpions are the defence, which you showed me
@WhoopedGG4 күн бұрын
Roxas!! The legend! I don't like vertical Storms. I'll sometimes do vertical on my third, but never my first two. I made a mistake by not selling out of them and investing those supplies into something a bit more useful. I should have sold on 3 and 4. Scorpions are an answer, but I'm wondering if I should start practicing Fortress instead of Scorpion as the two in the one-two punch.

Have many similar games , got many of them , upgrade towers to 4 , put 2 scorpions far back under tower VS Balls , even if/when he get melter you will UP tower to 5 so have NO stun time at all. Put 2 hackers... Also the guy fail a lot in the last round. 3 x Wraith level 2 with Armor Regen and it's over you have nothing to stop them
@WhoopedGG4 күн бұрын
Yeah I think you're on to something about leveling the tower. It seems to really make or break rounds--either by just not dying and acting as a shield of sorts, or having a major reduction in the debuff.

Great game. Did you consider AA marksmen? I would have thought they’d be good into that many boats.
@WhoopedGG4 күн бұрын
Thanks, bro! I normally like to have a few Marksman. In this situation I felt so pressured that all my supplies basically just went into Scorpions and Mustangs. I would have liked Marksman, especially for their EMP, but I just didn't find the right time. Dropping lvl 2s with AA probably would have dealt a lot of damage and stayed back from the fire.

My thoughts (1840); Anyone feel free to let me know if they disagree. I didn't play for a couple of weeks but let me see what I can do. Obviously the oil spam bailed you out big time and it would probably be a loss otherwise. A couple of general points about your defense I want to touch on: - Storms are usually really bad against crawler push. Here again the oil made them ok, but usually I would sell them rather early to gain back some tempo. - Chaff clear was a big problem early. You didn't buy anything to deal with crawlers. Without the oil, you would have less time to clear them and they would probably overrun you. - Beacon was good. Probably saved you enough HP to make the difference between a loss. - Contrary to what you said at the end, scorps were actually good here because the are the primary counter to typhoons (besides sabers) and balls, but a again you need the chaff clear to make them hit. Stangs were bad early as they served no purpose but good once the boats came in. They also strained your early eco (base price and the obligatory range) - scorp upgrades/doubleshot were delayed too long for my taste. You can see them hitting balls that survive with a slither of health. - Worm was an ok choice as it is really good against typhoons too, but I think you should have contemplated for a little longer as forts or vulcans could have been super strong options too. Now I want to give some ideas for defending since you said you want to diversify: - (vertical) sledges are the real bane of balls. The delay them for ever and also help with chaff clear. In this case you could have got armor on them too to fuck over the typhoons. - since it's common to build a lot of fangs on defense, you can always consider a carry/support fang transition. If you have a bunch of them sitting and waiting to be leveled it's usually an indicator the are doing work. it can be a good surprise to level them an give them range. Then they function similarly to mustangs. If that goes well you can always continue to level and add mech rage + forts. On offense the bane of carry fangs is fire, but on defense, once you get forts with shields, usually it's hard to get fire on them and the can clean up the whole board because the don't have to walk forwards into chaff clear/fire. - Offensive play is real important when defending. One of the biggest weaknesses of push is that you have to leave you towers open. Consider using flanks, jump drive wasp/phoenix or a unit drop to but pressure on your opponent. Use beacons and crawlers to tax missiles so they never can never feel safe. - Lastly the big boogieman: consider trying yourself at pushing. It helps you understand what is good on defense and also make you comfortable with the flexible play style of pressuring and probing different areas of the map which helps with the point above. I can recommend Surrey's (RAT) channel for that. He is really good with beacons, jump drive wasp, unpredictable play and and baiting opponents into over responding. Also has some great dedicated guide vids. Edit: RoosterPB also just made a great video on defense (positioning).

I agree with 95% of what you wrote. I think your take is pretty much spot on. And thanks for the suggestions on improving the defense. You're 100% right that I needed to sell out of the Storms in 3 & 4. Sometimes I will and sometimes I won't, it's really situational--but in general. in this situation, I typically don't put that many resources into attacking his flanks. The reason is because once I stabilize, I should win. So it's a race to see if my opponent can beat me before I stabilize. And if that's the case, I want to concentrate on my defense. The case can be made that by putting pressure on his towers, I'd be splitting his resources--and that's true, but I have to guarantee he invests more into defending than I did attacking, which I feel like is more of a gamble than just stabilizing my defense (a lot of the time, but not always). I will use cards, but really don't like dedicating deployments. Rat is a good player of course, but his playstyle is basically polar opposite of mine. I'll be sure to check out Rooster's video. That is a great suggestion! I've watched some of Clint's. I've played Mo a bunch. I try to watch Dzemp. There are a lot of great players to draw from for sure. Thank you so much for this comment, Sonic. There is a lot of good information in this.

Nice game dude! Can I ask why you didnt get Marksmen w/ Range + EMP (and maybe even AA)? That would've been my choice. Though I recognize that once he got the Wasps tech on his boats, Mustangs do better than Marksmen.
@WhoopedGGКүн бұрын
What's up, Kirby!! That is a good question. The Mustangs were my primary chaff clear as well as my anti-air. I would have had to have another chaff clearing unit in addition to Marksman, plus I would have had to end up getting Mustangs anyway. So we're talking two additional units and probably 4-5 additional tech--I just didn't have the resources for it. In an ideal world, I would have had a couple Marksman for their EMP. But in this game, I felt like I couldn't spare the supplies and deployments. I didn't make it happen. But, it ended up working out in the end :D
@jamesschumann28034 күн бұрын
Friendly neighborhood Melting point advocate putting my 2 cents in. I think at some point MP with range would have dealt with those boats, or at least helped. The amount of chaff they had was a problem, but the oil + getting ignited worked in your favor. Maybe could have used incendiary on Stormcallers? I don't know, you won after all, and your MMR is way higher than mine, just telling you what I saw.
@WhoopedGG4 күн бұрын
Sometimes I will go Melter--usually it's when there's a "big" Overlord and I'm playing catchup. In this case, I already had three Mustangs with range when he dropped Overlords, so my levels were on par. I took rounds 9, 10, and 11--and I think I lost the previous rounds because I didn't upgrade my tower for whatever reason lmao. Anyway, I do like the Melter as a defensive unit in a lot of similar situations. In this particular case, I just couldn't justify the ~1100 supply cost for one unit when my Mustangs were already putting in work. I should have sold out of my Storms tbh. I don't run Incendiary on my Storms, but that would have been a good suggestion if I did!! NIce looking out. Oh, and you know I don't care what your MMR is--a good suggestion is a good suggestion.
@TheSonicstar3 күн бұрын
As whooped said, MMR doesn't matter for suggestions, it only gives some extra context. About the melters: I wouldn't recommend them If you only buy them to counter boats. The problem is that at some points there will be wasps. Especially if they run mothership and stack boats they can OTK you when they click that button. So sooner or later you need stangs/range fangs anyway. As they are good against boats anyway, the thought process is why go for something else if they do the job and I will need them later anyway. Exception is if you already have typhoons. The are good against wasps but are bad into boats so the can work well in combinations with MPs.
