For freshwater fish they certainly fight hard, compared to many saltwater species they are kinda meh. This is coming form a guy who loves smallmouth, certain saltwater fish are just built different (especially those with rigid, forked tails and lots of red muscle) My pb smallie was never weighed but was 24 inches long, and kinda skinny. It was the most beautiful fish I've ever seen

I love bass fishing but have only ever fished around my area (south western Ohio between Cincinnati and Dayton), I’ve caught a few 5lb bass but you really gotta know where they are because they just aren’t as big down here generally. My personal biggest is a 26 incher which was insanely fun to catch.
