With the humminbird sounder. The reason the screen/image goes dark like that isn’t really because the water is dirty. When the water is dirty it makes the image just a bit more fuzzy an less detail… the reason it goes dark is because of the bottom type (which is normally mud) like really really soft mud. So it just doesn’t get a great bright return of an image like it would when your on a hard bottom area like rocks or sand. Instead of playing with the contrast to brighten the image up, should try just raising the sensitivity as that will make the image brighter but can also loose a little bit of detail. So it’s hard some times to get the perfect image…. But the good thing with when you’re on that real soft muddy bottom. If you do go past a fish like a big Barra they tend to stand out on the side scan really good as a nice bright image. But it’s nearly impossible to see a shadow of a fish as it’s blended it with the darkness of the image.
