Was once on a packed flight on a 737. The pilot must had opted for an unrestricted power take off, The thing accelerated and rolled down the runway so fast, then climbed like a bat out of hell it was shocking. These tubes with turbines in them that are pretty much an over sized turbocharger without the engine, are capable of producing so much power, its astonishing.

@Tomaz Sielski Rosa uh… no? the FADEC decides how much power is needed for takeoff, and sets that to the absolute minimum required, usually 85-90 percent. max thrust takeoffs are not common at all and have to be done manually, unless there’s some feature in the 777 auto throttle that allows for them that I don’t know about.
@aivansama6265

@Tomaz Sielski Rosa Max thrust takeoffs are very rare. The takeoff power is (almost) always less than max if runway lenght allows, to save the eninge wear.

@Tomaz Sielski Rosa I don’t know what Boeing calls it but for airbus there is a thing called “flex temp” where the plane essentially adjusts the power on takeoff to a set thrust that is less than toga to reduce engine wear etc.

Then again, falling from the sky has a higher chance of death than crashing into a tree with a car... specially if you consider newer cars!

Your comment reminds me of an occasion, many years ago at ATL, where I walked with the Captain and First Officer of the Delta B763 we had just disembarked. That ship had GE CF6 turbofans, but the two pilots told me DL had recently taken delivery of some B763s with PW4060 engines, which they reported as being quite impressive. The Captain told me, that on his time commanding a PW-powered B763, he was expected to use a derated takeoff power setting. He added, "I looked at my First Officer, he looked at me...we threw away the rule book and let the big dog eat." ☺

Not only is it not over 90% N1 it’s actually even less than 90%. This is a lightly loaded aircraft obvious from the steep climb and quick acceleration. Airlines mandate that pilots use the least thrust necessary for a safe take off. Not only does it save fuel costs it also reduces stress fatigue on the parts.

Every major city (and city in close countries) have trains going to them. The trains don't go as fast as airplanes but at 200 mph (or 300-325 km/h) it's still way faster than a car, there is no traffic, ride is smooth, safer, etc. (I live in France). (Sometimes the train is more expensive than taking the airplane though (for instance between Paris and London airplane is sometimes cheaper but you have tighter security, longer waiting lines, you need to go to the airport, etc, so the train is more convenient as probably worth the little extra).

3:37 i lived accross those baseball fields line up with 27/9 runway so growing up all those cargo planes were it seemed within reach when they were on final. hence my love for aviation it really sparked my imagination.
