When I had just started to play quake I downloaded the first quake frag video I ever saw which was QuakeCon 2002 Highlights which contained fantastic frags by zero4. When I was still playing he was my idol. It's nice to see he's still playing.

Yes Quake has bad graphics. BECAUSE it was CREATED in 1999 (btw this is not quake live's 'real graphics' they have been lowered for some reason, most likely for the viewers who play quake.) Yes Quake is unrealistic but that doesn't mean its less superior in terms of providing entertainment in which a video game is supposed to do. Yes Quake requires a lot more skill to play than call of duty, any Quake player can play a public game of CoD and get a decent score due to the mindless gameplay mechanics aka killstreaks and grenade launchers. Although this is a one way street because the same wont happen for the cod player.

+Jaime Gonzalez this game looks the same if not better than quake3 mate. this is the kind of configuration people use to play more competitively . it doesnt only affect how many fps you have, but actually makes aiming a bit easier for some. quake 3 was like this in tournaments too ;d in game menus dont allow you to get the game like this, the most important command is r_picmip . in this case i think its r_picmip "5". if you use r_picmip "0" , you get full textures like you remember. if you use "10" , you get even flatter untextured walls (wich is also bad, its better to have some references both aim wise and to sense speed) :P . this are the competitive standard graphics

Don't worry about it. Part of the game is getting the best weapons for the scenario and then using them correctly. That's why map awareness is so important.

This is the most skill based shooter I've ever played. It's so fast paced and intense, just how an FPS should be :3 Also the standard you need to be at to be great are insane..... Map knowledge (teleports, weapon/pickup locations, general map layout), accuracy (9/10 if you have better accuracy you will kill them), predicting your enemies movements, strafe jumping, rocket jumping, switching weapons based on the situation etc (all of which are handily shown 8:10 to 8:40).

@CadrinHaverit The appearance in this video is after using a bunch of console tweaks to change the appearance. You can make it look like Q3A if you want, but most people turn down the textures so that it's easier to see everything.

This is an awesome match. I just played a Clan Arena match that dkt was playing in. He did alright but his team sucked. I think I scored 1 point higher then him. Great fun though, glad to see these guys play pubs every now and then.

And this is where opinions differ. I think BF3's approach to graphics is extremely bold and I wish more games dared to incorporate deliberate obfuscation of information in that manner. It's too bad that the 3D spotting counteracts a lot of it. I can only hope BF4 doesn't have that by default...

dkt was doing fine, then started to get sloppy. Wasting his ammo shooting the walls, making bad judgment calls by firing down into holes so he could get railed, etc. The list goes on. ZeRo4 deserves a beer for such quick recovery and triumph.

I'm making something called the Mouse Glove. Why am I telling you this? Because the guy who made this up (HouseholdHacker) played Quake Live using the Mouse Glove. It was awesome. Instead of using a regular boring computer mouse, you use your hand! (Well, a glove) I installed this game and I can't wait to make my Mouse Glove for this!

The guys turn the graphics down to the most basic level so they can see clearly in competition play. Quake 3 still looks pretty good today with the graphics cranked up.

I can tell you don't play Quake. If you leave an opponent unchecked when you see them, they can get more health/armour and catch you off-guard later. It's important to follow and anticipate your opponent's moves.
