Why is this supposed to be an insane read? Boats are such a logical hand to have there and bluffs are hard to come by. A9s, J9s and 76s are the only ones I'd have found in that spot and I don't think any of them are pure calls preflop.

He does have an incredible “feel” for the game. I think before it’s all said and done he will go down as one of the top 5 players of all time.

He folds quite often in these scenarios. He is very disciplined. This is an area I struggle with. I’m still paying off when I know I’m beat playing live.

A lot of the time a disciplined fold can earn more money than a hero call. Especially in tournaments, one thing to help with it is to think about it like this. For someone to be able to bluff you, you have to give them enough respect for their game for them to be able to bluff you. Therefor folding to their river bet is a way of saying "I don't think you're good enough to bluff here" and you're giving them credit for playing face up. If they show you a bluff, remember that they will bluff and slow play strong value hands and let them pick how much they want to donk off to you, of course on the river with the nuts, be sure to raise to what would seem like a bluff-y amount to get called by worse hands. For some reason, for me online, a raise of pot plus 2BB gets called a LOT.

Negreanu has talked about this very hand! I believe he said the issue was that his opponent was too greedy, thinking that dnegs would never fold here. Daniel also said that if the bet had been smaller, he would have paid it off (and says as much during the hand too).

He says that this size is claiming a full house, and Badziakouski has all of those, but his only bluff is 67s. Such a large sizing needs far more bluffs than that, so Negreanu can happily fold to this overly value-heavy bet. He doesn't discuss MDF, but implicitly he's saying he isn't at the top of his range. He also says Badziakouski was being exploitative/greedy by making such a large bet that his range doesn't support, and that Badziakouski would have maximised his winnings with a small bet, as Negreanu would have raised.

I was just in this situation with the nut flush vs. a rivered boat. I make a medium-sized river bet hoping to get called by trip jacks, but he fills up (J4 of all hands) and then raises. In these spots, raising is obviously out of the question, so it's between fold and call. It's one of those things where you know you're probably beat, but you kind of have to call anyway. If I had the second nut flush I probably find a fold, but it's hard to fold the best flush on the river and it would also be hard to fold the nut straight here. So I wince call and expect to win some of the time when my opponent flips out with trips or a worse flush but expect to lose some of the time when he fills up. That being said, this was an incredible laydown and something I'm not quite capable of at this juncture. 😂

I dont think All In is an option. Paired boards must always give you pause and Daniel is already asking the right question. What did you do on the flop? And Mikit raised Daniels bet. Why? Pocket 8s and hits a set? Overpair? And on the turn they both checked. Yet on the River the big bet comes out. Quads or a set of 7s and 6s that made the FH.? Mikit doesnt seem scared of the straight draw anymore . At worst I call

This is the case where if you bet BIG, then it forces your opponent to play good. He says, "If you bet less I would have called already. DN has seen these scenarios so many times in his career and also it depends who he is up against. Great fold there. He knew it as soon the 60K was bet that he didn't like it.

Yes, I have seen Daniel flop the nuts so many times and get destroyed by the river. That hand against Gus Hansen when he had a full house and Hansen rivered a Quad is very typical for Daniel. I don't know how he keeps his cool when these ridiculous situations keep happening to him. Then you have players like Tom Dwan who rises preflop with trash, and improves with every card that lands on the board to beat monsters hands.

I've made the same fold in similar spots twice this month. It's not as hard for DNEG as you may think. Folks, if the board is paired and someone is representing a full house, they either have it or they don't. Easy fold in that game I think. AND, furthermore, one could say, any many have, that the turn check by Daniel was risky, I'm sure he knew what he was doing, in that spot, you either protect your made nut straight with a big bet or you play the river. No doubt pairing the board WAS all Daniel was worried about. And, he was wrong. His opponent had 99s, not 66s or 77s. All beware your being mind trained by these videos to make huge mistakes later on, brilliant. Good luck folks!

You have to put the guy on SOMETHING and the story of the hand makes it pretty clear. He is not betting out with any over pair with a one card straight on the board and he would not be checking the flop with an over pair. No way he would not just check with a 10 and see a showdown with that board. It HAS to be a bluff or a boat. This is not that impossible a read. Most good players can make this laydown.

Question for the community; MTT. 4 hour left and it pays 3. Under the gun with 37% of the chips and 35 big blinds men raises. The button subs all in or his 37% of the chips which is also 35 big. The two blinds bold.and.the under the gun has a ace/king unsuited and and mucks. Third-place pays 160. Second pays 240 and first pays 400. I told him he made a bad fold. What would you do?

If he and all-in player had 37% of the chips each then that means there's only 24% of the chips between the other 2 players so they must have very short stacks. Since only top 3 get paid, it's too risky to put all your chips in against the other big stack player when there's 2 other players with much shorter stack sizes than the both of you. In this situation you're flipping a lot of the time against a pocket pair, (and there are some times where you dominate their hand), but flipping for your tournament life when you're on the bubble is not worth it especially when you have the chip lead

Mikita Badziakouski is a Belorussian pronunciation, which is even more challenging for a foreigner because it is simply a Belorussian accent woven into writing. Ask him, if you doubt my words. This is the way his name is spelled in the foreign passport but basically is spelled only in the official Belorussian language. Belorussia (Belarus) has both Russian and Belorussian languages as the official languages, but 99% of the population use only russian. I play a lot there

I was going through combinations and I really can’t find anything his opponent could have other than boats and quads. No other value hand is over betting except maaaybe JTs in an attempt to get Daniel to call with only a T. But even JTs probably bets closer to pot, and there are only 3 combos since Daniel has one. So what about possible bluffs? I honestly can’t find any. He doesn’t have over pairs because they likely 3! pre and they certainly don’t turn themselves into a bluff on the river given the previous actions. A5s and A8s are also checking back with showdown value, if they’re even played preflop. Same with any 9. Are A6s and A7s taking this line and turning into a bluff? I suppose they may, but I’m not even sure they flat these hands pre. In the moment it’d be a very hard fold to make, but from my couch with no emotional attachment I think it’s pretty clearly the right play. Would be curious of your thoughts on my breakdown, Jonathan. With the way the hand played and bet sizing it looked like a clear full house. Either that, or an insane creative complete air ball. Think about the hands he's raising flop with? All of them either make full house, or have enough show down value to not bluff. Would only be an airball. he's not value betting super thin there. Maybe one bluff would be flopped 2 pair that got counterfeited. If he bet somewhere between 30-40k then this could be a much tougher folder as you may be able to include some thinner value bets, but again most aren't thin value betting there expecting a call. Good fold yes, but great fold not really.

Not sure why this is considered such huge fold? Opponent is not repping straight with this line and river sizing. He is repping boat. JT doesn't block or beat any of value range. Flopped sets or 87s could easily take this same line so I don't really understand notion from commentators about there not being many boats. Well I am not good enough to say what sort of bluffs would be utilised in this spot. Feels like it's quite hard to have much hands with boat blocker considering it was early position action.

Obvious but not easy fold. This past weekend, I folded my flopped straight with the redraw to up and down straight flush when the turn brought in a straight for my opponent. Was obvious. Turned my cards over and mucked. He did as well. Dealer couldn't believe the fold and said he would have called no matter what. Problem was i want from 90% to win post flop to 25% post turn. Sometimes, you just have to wait for the next hand.

I think if I were in negreanu’s shoes I’d puke and then probably call. I would expect 88 to call the flop, but I feel like 77 and 66 may be hands that check-raise the flop for protection as it is a pretty dynamic board. I would also expect 77 and 66 to check back the turn because the 9s is one of the worst turns in the deck for those hands. BUT, I think there is still some value hands such as 10x or 5x that would consider value betting the river with a straight thinking that we wouldn’t check a higher straight twice on the turn and river.

So basically there aren't FD on the flop so which hands would raise Flop to over bet that river? An T high straight? Missed backdoor busted FD...? From a pure theoretical standpoint, Negreanu's fold isn't really that crazy. Mikita doesn't really have worse hands here that often that he bets for value - a lot of Tx probably bets turn and the Tx that exists may actually check back some portion of the time. And if he doesn't have offsuit Tx at all then Mikita's worse hands for value are almost non-existent. The nice thing for Daniel is that when Mikita goes that size, he will have plenty of bluffs, but having the Jh is actually kind of weird because that does block a few of the backdoor flush draw type hands that might elect to take this line - check raise flop, check back turn when they pick up the straight draw and then are obligated to bluff river. So this hand is actually a lot lower in Daniel's range than we'd think. Ultimately, if we have plenty of Tx in our range, we probably can fold a lot of those hands and then call T9/T8 (which blocks full houses). Maybe A8s is a better call than JT just because it blocks the nuts better. At the end of the day I'm probably just calling here, but I wouldn't be shocked if this hand was pretty close to the bottom of our range and we fold a fair amount of Tx here to that size.

No Johnny, he went back through the hand and realized that he had 9s that's why he bet or called the flop. Then checked behind on the turn. Why check behind on the turn. Well Daniel made some TV time Bru ha ha so he made a hand. Folks that's a tell from Daniel in that spot. So the other fella thought I can trap Daniel here if I hit the river. And he hits the river, but Daniel knows he had a set on the turn. And the board paired. If the board doesn't pair Daniel bets 37gs but he checks again and knows a bet is coming. Otherwise he is willing to see the cards. So what's my take, Daniel realized if he bet on the turn he would get called and wasn't confident he could survive the river and was correct. He had him on a set probly from the flop. Just sayin
