Easy tip !! Walleye are smooth scaled and sauger and saugeye are rough. Saugeye look just like wallheads with more of greenish camo pattern . Saugers are ovious

1. The dorsal fin (spiny fin on top of the fish) on a sauger has black spots. A walleye does not, and the pieces of skin in between the last 2 spines are solid black. 2. The tail of a walleye is white on the lower fin. A sauger does not have that. 3. Saugers are typically smaller than walleye. A 16 inch sauger is considered big. 4. Lastly, a mature sauger is “blotchy” with shades of black. Walleyes are more consistent and “gold”, not “blotchy”.

Jiggin head with a small swimbait or soft plastic minnows in super bright colors are the go to baits for the Walter's around here in the Detroit river area. Walleye magnets.

I think that was a fresh water carp sucker , they are typically found in the south west , but have been making there way north . I caught one this spring jigging for walleye in the Detroit river . They say you can eat them , but I will pass.....

There is a way to tell a carp from a catfish when hooked if it's a carp it will probably surface then fight the catfish wouldn't surface at all

What state are you in? In Illinois we can't use "gamefish" as live bait for flatheads, or as any bait for that matter, even if they are of legal keeping size. We use bullheads or big bluegills as flathead bait, with bullheads working better as they handle the current better when being used as live bait....

Lol, i still tie triple grannies at 50, i dont lose fish but its pretty emberrassing, plus i use my rod backwards too. I am basically an aggravation to any "true" fisherman, but thats how i started back when i was about 6yrs old and just never bothered to evolve. Still a kid at heart.

If you want to smash the walleye throw on a 1\4 oz black jighead and a 3in yellow twister tail. It resembles the colors of perch which are one of a walleys favorite foods. Thats all I use to catch them and I smash them all day long. At 16min 43sec that one you caught is a sauger. You can tell by the spotted marks on the soft dorsal and spiny dorsal fin. walleye dont have them only sauger. The reason it has a spot on its tail is its not a pure strain of sauger. In iowa if it has the spots on the dorsals and has a white tip it is coincidered a sauger. After watching the whole video it looks like they were all sauger. I would check with your local conservation officer and find out for sure. I have a bachelors degree in natural resource management and every states walleye and sauger have different looks to them based on water clarity and diet so I may be wrong about them being saugers. I have never seen a walleye with spotted dorsal fins. I have 3 14 pound walleye hanging on the wall and mine look totally different then them. If you happen to check into it and find out if there walleye or saugers and you have the time I would like to know what they say about them.

Try cheap (like bar s) hot dogs. Cut them into thirds place into zip lock bag and cover them with garlic powder. Let sit over night in the fridge. Cats love them. Never caught a flat as they prefer live but blues and channels love them.

Your eyes look to be Saugeye a cross between a Walleye and a sauger and fairly common. They still have the white tip but not nearly as pernounced and they have the back spots and Speckles on the fins but not nearly as pronounced it's basically just a half and half.

Walleye are tasty critters...pike/perch, and lake perch is one of my favorite fish to eat..delicious fried, peeled off bones and dipped in ketchup, not sure how they would taste out of here. Would have been nice to actually see that buffalo.

Those were definitely not saugers. Josh is correct a sauger does not have any white at all on its tail fin. And saugeyes usually have a faint white line on the bottom edge of tail fin. Those were walleye.
