We'll seeing as I am a kind of historian, time to get my geek on. - The hottest thing on the map since the Atlas of Catalan is a reference to a famous medieval map that even though the person making it had no real knowledge of any area outside of the mediterranean it depicted Mansa Musa with a lot of gold. - The bowing to the king of Cairo is a bit of a self own, Mansa Musa refused to do that and the king accepted that Musa would only need to bow before Allah. - Timbuktu is as far as I know not an app, but it had a university that was financed by Mansa Musa -The ship sailing is an unconfirmed story that the king before Mansa Musa sailed into the Atlantic on an expedition, him (re)discovering the Americas before Columbus would make for an interesting alternative history setting. Also Mansa Musa won this big in my opinion, better flow and jabs. Although Bezos probably makes a much easier target than a 700 year old king only history geeks know anything about.

Yeah, I realized after recording that parts of where Mansa was in the video WAS Timbuktu, so that's also part of where I slipped there. Also, I said 18th century, and it was more like 14th century. Thanks for the history lesson!

It's a pretty fringe reference (that I 100% missed) but the start of Lloyd's 2nd line "Musa I'm Lyrically Lethal, Im Relentless African Verse Immune" "Milliravi" is apparently a reference to a math error of a million dollars or more. And they made it into an acronym during a presentation at one point like that, saying "Meaningful Innovation Leads, Launches, Inspires Relentless Amazon Visitor Improvements" as a dig against the stock analyst (Ravi Suria) who undervalued Amazon stock at some point (or something like that). I'm surprised that reference made it into the battle, but it's got such a shockingly detailed origin that I thought it was worth sharing.

Always nice to see an ERB reaction. I don't think I've seen anyone point it out, but the "Allah mode" line isn't self-contained: "I'm the _cream_ of the crop / I'm _on_ _top_ / I'm _ice_ _cold_ ...", so it ends up being more clever than it might seem on first listen.

MacKenzie got $38 BILLION dollars from the divorce. So he was talking about giving her $40 BILLION. Currently their quarterly revenue of the company is roughly $100 BILLION dollars at least in April of this year. So the company makes about $30 BILLION dollars a month. Thus why he said earning every penny back only took him a month. I'm not going to try to sort through the ridiculousness of all that.

Ian the comma doesn't go back by a second but by a frame so, depending on the quality of the video, by either 1/30th or 1/60th of a second, you can also keep it pressed like normal keys and have the frames go back faster.

I think Bezos spent a bit too much time flexing, thus sabotaging his chances of winning a bit. Though I think there's a couple reasons for that: 1. Mansa Musa just doesn't have a lot of documentation of his history compared to other historical figures, and some bits we do know about him are up for debate on their accuracy, like him bowing to the king of Cairo or killing his mom (also probably why not many people know about him period). This just gives Bezos less material to really hit close to home with. 2. They seemed to want to take the more comical approach to Bezos, giving him a goofy-rich-guy-trying-to-be-relatable-and-hip-with-it vibe. ERB put up an early demo after the battle was released with a first draft of the lyrics and Bezos came off much more cold and corporate, even attacking Mansa multiple times for owning slaves. Whilst Bezos stood more of a chance with that delivery, I think it would've been less fun going the evil billionaire route, despite that being what I presume many people had expected them to take (I think the same thing happened to ERB Thanos imo where they underestimated how seriously people took him after the Infinity War movies and found mentions of the Thanos-copter and his appearance in Fortnite to be weird flexes for him) Wall of text over; have a good day!

A la mode means "with ice cream on top". And the line before it was "I'm the *cream* of the crop, i'm *on top* , I'm *ice* cold". Allah mode is also a play on "God mode". I forgot what god mode means though and don't feel like looking it up.

Musa may have bowed to the Sultan of Egypt (not the King of Cairo), but the accounts disagree on that. Initially Musa refused, claiming that he bowed to no man, only to God. But then he either bowed to Allah, which the Sultan interpreted as a bow to him, or the Sultan accepted him as an equal and did not insist on the bow

The “fact” about Musa’s mother was only recorded in a single account of his life. None of the others mention that story. Also, Musa was so generous with the gold during his pilgrimage to Mecca that he ended up ruining Egypt’s economy for 12 years by devaluing gold. He tried to mitigate the situation on the way back by buying up much of the gold, but it was too late

I’m sorry but there is no reason you need to stop the video every 2-3 seconds to make it transformative. Maybe let it go 10-15 seconds AND then give your thoughts and explanation. Had to stop watching after I could see you putting your hand above the space bar as soon as you would resume the video. Let it saturate my guy, there is no way to get your points across when you go half a bar and stop it.
