Depends on balance and the person. I spent an hour in the house getting a feel of it using the hallway walls till I was ready to go outside. Took me a couple days before I was confident starting which I think is the most difficult. Once your moving its easy to maneuver. It's start and stop for me. Have practiced alot more start and stop in my hall and I was confident taking it on the street in 3 days hitting 57 km hr (full gear). Take your time and stay within your limits.
@terkelalgevind5292 жыл бұрын
I took about 3 hours on a tall grown grass field before taking my v8f to the streets... Seen in hindsight I think I was kinda mad doing that as I got wobbles for almost 2 weeks and got problems braking fast for a month at least. We are all different. A mate of mine gave up after two days of painful training then sold his wheel..
@finlotek2 жыл бұрын
I have been riding for about a year and I will say it takes a good couple weeks of riding on unpopulated smooth streets before you should attempt riding around any traffic. And even after a month or two of being comfortable starting stopping and cornering on pavement once you start hitting dirt with loose terrain and uneven ground i.e. rocks, roots, ruts. It's a whole different ball game. I imagine that chooch had been riding high speed through the city for a good year before he started doing much trail riding (correct me if im wrong chooch) and the skill that this video demonstrates is hundreds if not 1000's of hours of consistent daily riding. But the wonderful thing about EUCs is that the entire journey from that first day of riding 100ft without having to jump off to when you learn how to navigate slowly through pedestrians on a crowded city street with confidence your not going to clip anyone's heels to launching your first 4 step it's all fun AF but it's not all fun and games. Theres one thing that is inherent to these devices and that's the "wobbles" but once you learn how to regain control during a bad outbreak of wobbles (I've had them so bad they shook my feet clean off the peddals sending me flying with an S18 tangled up in my legs, thank God for helmets and gear ) your confidence will increase tremendously. And in my opinion that's one of the most important things to work on if you get in to the hobby Confidence ... but I digress, if you are watching these videos thinking of getting into the hobby it is very rewarding, and I strongly recommend it. It's not cheap to get started but it's cheap as hell after the initial wheel and gear investment. I know that this doesn't exactly answer your question but every individual is different. I think a person could be doing this kind of riding after one good riding season... If they stayed dedicated and had the trails to ride close to home. So buy a good wheel today and get on it everyday and by Sept you should be able to post videos very similar to this one.

Funny you mention tire pressure, mountain bike tires have "recommended" settings that NO ONE uses, typically around 40psi when, in reality, we ride 20 to 30 psi max reasons you mention, traction and being bounced offline. They may roll fine on pavement but offroad those pressures are just useless. You can get away with lower pressure if you. run tubeless, not sure if thats a thing with these.

The reason nobody is introducing any sort of internal gearing for EUC is that the entire market would instantly be obsoleted. There would be no more "high speed" or "high torque" differentiation. They're basically retarding innovation timing so they don't clobber their own sales - I worked at Intel for years, it's totally the business strategy to stall out on some features because it allows them to sell TWO wheels into the space that ONE fits. The fallacy of that thinking is that I would rather have two wheels that I can do anything with rather than have to buy two wheels that I can each use for only one application and it's not the same application. EVERY CUSTOMER WOULD. When possible you always take an extra dirt bike if you can fit it in the trailer, why would this be ANY different at all. I've got at least three drivetrain designs (including a wheel based planetary system consisting of gearing, motors, and suspension all inside the rim) on the desk and multiple suspension concepts waiting, including one for the OneWheel folks so they don't get stuck riding something with no clearance or damping on the trails (a lateral scissor slider sort of deal that might give them an inch or two of wheel travel).
@robertnicholls99172 жыл бұрын
Hey russell, I'm a product designer interested in designing more interesting EUC concepts. I think many of the designs are fine, including the wheel he's riding now but think there is so much visual and functional potential not being exploited. Some of the designs are infuriatingly lazy. They do just enough at the low end because buyers don't know better. That stuff wouldn't work on more experienced riders. I see the retardation of truly good ideas in management for other products I design. They're just not interested in the real culture around any product or truly innovative ways to produce them until they're forced by a competitor, which is infuriating for anyone who think they can do better. Do you have info that would help me get a thorough understanding of the engineering and production matrix (factories/developers) around a well designed wheel like this one? I would greatly appreciate it. Of course, I would have to buy a wheel and break it down for functional inspiration but would like to see what I can do with existing technical specs (full cads, etc) and observing riders. I can easily create an appealing visual concept, with some functional elements but have much more radical functional ideas I want to experiment. I need a lot of detailed engineering perspectives in order to figure out the best materials, motors, maybe even brake calipers (not needed for what it is now - might be too abrupt). I'm thinking calipers for technical slides but will have to study rider dynamics more, see if it's even a good idea. It's a new area in transportation, which I would like to make safer, eco-conscious and more desirable. These products will contribute to a fun future if done with passion.
