Got turned on to Doc in 1969, and have never lost even the most minute bit of appreciation for how his voice could just plain old make you "feel good"! Very majestic and as peaceful as meditation. He was a gift to all who were fortunate enough to have him come into their life. Glad I'm one!!!

David Holt, Bryan Sutton, Barry Poss, Wayne Henderson (guitar maker...count Eric Clapton) and piano great Jeff Little played this song, one of my favorites...what a great evening to sit around, close up on the stage and listen to this stuff.

Lyrics : I've got to tell you I've been rackin' my brain I have to find a way out I've had enough of this continual rain A change is comin', no doubt (Chorus) It's been a too long time With no peace of mind And I'm ready for the times to get better A long lonely time With no peace of mind And I'm ready for the times to get better You try to take from me what I cannot give No happiness can I find I have a dream that I've been trying to live It's burning holes in my mind (Chorus)

I met Doc,Miss Rosalee, and Michael at Wingate College Wingate NC. I had spent the entire day collecting collecting all the sound equipment for the performance that night. A lady came in to auditorium and asked if this was where the performance was scheduled for the DocWatson. About that time Doc and Michael entered the auditorium carrying a guitar cases. This was the start of a night I cherish to this day. After getting all Doc’s equipment set up on stage I started to adjust the stage lighting. Miss Rosalee told Doc that I was going to give him a light show.

Doc and Merle Watson lived just over the hill from me in Deep Gap, NC...just east of Boone. He lost his eyesight before he was one due to an eye infection. He used to sit out in front the the dime store in Boone and play his guitar and sold pencils to support his family. He is widely regarded to have been one of the finest flat-pickers on the planet. I had the honor of selling music to him and his son Merle at my record store back 'in the day'. The first song I ever heard him do, was 'Tennessee Stud' that was on the' Will the Circle Be Unbroken' album that Nitty Gritty Dirtband. One of the finest Americana festivals was started 31 years ago to honor his son, Merle, who was a great blues guitarist, but died at the age of 36. The festival takes place the last 4 day weekend in April...I am sunburned from attending it as I type this....in Wilkesboro, NC, just down the mountain from where he lived. It draws approximately 80.000 music lovers and is a wonderful family venue held on the Wilkes Comm. College campus. This year featured Kris Kristofferson, Steve Martin with the Steep Canyon Rangers, Rhiannon Giddens, Mandolin Orange, Sam Bush, Robert Earl Keen, the Waybacks, Peter Rowan, Jerry Douglas, Scythian, Bela Fleck, and scores of others. It has featured, Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, Dolly Parton, Avett Brothers, Tony Rice, New Grass Revival, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Elvis Costello, Robert Plant, Arlo Guthrie, John Prine, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Earl Scruggs, Bill Monroe, John Hartford, Loretta Lynn, Dwight Yokum, Leon Russell, the Duhks, the Rankin Family, Hot Tuna, I Draw Slow, Odetta, Elizabeth Cotton, Roy Bookbinder, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Bob Weir, Vassar Clements,Hot Rize, Tim O'Brien, the Chieftains,Seldom Scene, Chesapeake, Mark O'Connor, Bruce Hornsby, Lyle Lovett, Rosanne Cash, Rodney Crowell, Marty Stuart....and scores of others.
