The video shows a simple, low pressure glow discharge plasma of Nitrogen gas using a spherical, perforated electrode and high voltage discharge. The electrode is placed in a, evacuated bell-jar and the metallic base of the bell-jar acts as the other electrode. Plasma is the fourth state of matter and can be produced by providing energy higher than its ionization potential to the gas. The plasma consists of charged particles i.e., ions and electrons. The random jets of plasma are produced when ideal conditions gas pressure and electric field (as per Paschen’s curve) are produced in the vicinity of the perforations on the electrode placed in the bell-jar under low pressure conditions.
