@@ricogomez4020 Yes, I own victory from Warner Archive on Blu Ray. I don’t like it nearly as much as The Great Escape, the acting, script & overall pacing of The Great Escape is far better in my opinion. But I still enjoyed Victory it’s just not my favorite between those 2 films.

I totally agree that this is a great film. It's probably in my top 25. Love it. I have seen it probably 50 times. You are correct that this movie moves so well, that almost a 3 hour run time is not noticed. Love Mcqueen, love1 Bronson, Garner & Pleasance in the film. The music score is one of the best as well. It is definitely my favorite prisoner of war film.

🤘I agree, it’s an outstanding film. The interactions between Donald Pleasance & James Garner are superb & really add to emotional resonance from what happens later in the film & it always gets me a little choked up after everything they endure together. But at the same time it’s still a beautiful scene at the end between both of them. Such a GEM to watch!🎬

I used to do photoshop work on color print ads way back in the 1990s' so I know how good the color correction comes out is based on the person working on it. So I can see how some 4k releases look different in scenes as far as color timing goes because sometimes it may be that more than one person is working on a movie transfer and each person has their own style.

DVD!!! I would definitely wait till you get to buy this 4K so you get to experience this Great Epic Classic movie for the first time on this 4K UltraHD Blu Ray. Man you are in for a great experience the first through the 20th time you watch this, so much fun.

I am a huge fan of this movie. I have watched this for as long as I can remember, at least the mid 1970's. I recently watched this on a 65" Sony A8H OLED tv, and a Sony UPB-X800 UHD player running through a Denon 4K AVR, using Zeskit HDMI cables. Do not waste your money on the KL 4K version. As bad as the MGM BD is, it is still better than the KL 4K, and is $10 to $15 less Some reviewers have mentioned the 4K as being Crystal Clear. There are only a handful of scenes that are Crystal Clear. Most of the 4K is overly grainy, somewhat out of focus, and completely unwatchable. I truly appreciate the reviews from You Tubers. Unfortunately, they are only showing the best shots of the movie in stills and video clips.

If people want to calibrate their tv’s-KZbin is how I calibrated my Sony TVs. It was less stress, saved money (Kept me from hiring someone) and took no time to get my picture perfect (Maybe 10 mins to set the tv up after watching the videos) . For those interested in calibrating their tv’s all they have to do is type in YT the kind of TV they have and then the word ‘calibrate’…You might want to do a video on how to calibrate the TVs u have. Those videos on calibrating TVs get a ton of hits Great TGE video by the way! I haven’t purchased the great escape yet…so you helped me on which one to pick up. I do have the great escape in a S.M.Boxset so I wasn’t rushing out to get the Criterion Collection. But now, after this review-I’m going with Kino for sure! Thnx

I bought the Criterion version of The Great Escape under the impression (based on information on their website) that this version WAS a 4k UHD. Now I find out, after watching your more informed video, that it was a Blu-ray. I am very disappointed in how Criterion marketed their version. Based on your video I going to now buy the Kino-Lorber version. And for the record it is in my top 5 war movies of all time. And after the original Magnificent Seven, my second favorite Steve McQueen film. You did a great job on this video. I rely on your insight when I now make Dvd purchases.

Great review. Never saw this movie. Eager to watch it now. Like war movies. Just ordered the KL 4K of this through your Amazon link. Thank you for clarifying it does not have Dolby Vision even though it’s printed that way on the case. I would have been wondering why my Panasonic 4k player wasn’t recognizing it as such.

🎉Welcome to my KZbin channel glad to have you along for this journey through all these great movies and TV series.👍 As far as a few things for calibrating your TV, after you get it you will want to go into your setting & remove / disable all the image motion enhancement softwares, so things like motion blur & smoothing type settings. There are also quite a few settings used for video game consoles that if you are going to primarily be watching movies & TV series you will want to disable the options related to enhancing a video game console. Hopefully this gives you a start on what yo look for when setting up your TV and what setting to turn of or remove. Hope this helps!

I have, it’s was entertaining a lot of those type of films would be great 4K restored on 4K UltraHD. I wish we could get Band of Brothers & The Pacific in full 4K UltraHD. I will say though that I just loved the ensemble cast & how well they planned out their whole escape on The Great Escape, it has so many great scenes & acting.

The Criterion definitely looks like it has a cooling photo filter put over it. But the 4k looks a bit oversaturated and a touch too much magenta, although I like it better than the cool look. Speaking as someone who works with professional color printing for a living.

I almost won it on criterion Blu-ray, lost the auction by 50 cents. Still sour about it. If I pick up KL release, it'd have to sit on the shelf, unopened, until a 4k player is purchased, and watch the film on dvd for now. That'd be a true shame.
