Thank you for the video! Prior to becoming aware of this video, I'd already purchased Martin's 13.3% solution that is featured in the video (and also linked in the description section). BTW, the product label DOES state that there are petroleum distillates. FYI. As for soaking vs spraying, I just tried the bucket soak method on two tents, and found the method uses a lot of the solution. Part of it has to do with the fact that the bucket method is indiscriminate with regards to the outside or inside of the fabric. Another reason is that much of the solution gets trapped in the folds of the fabric when stuffed into the bucket. Much dripping when hanging on the clothes line. Used the spray method on the backpacks, and it felt much easier and less messy. YMMV, of course. Shall find out in a week or two if all this trouble was worth it.

Part of the soaking for me was not exhausting my hands with a spray bottle, and ensuring that I hit everything, but spraying DEFINITELY takes up way less of the permethrin! I have since tried it with clothing. I will probably be using that method with most things moving forward. I need to treat a bunch of my clothing before my next trip- my last camping trip, the mosquitoes were thick, and I'd really wished I'd treated my clothing!

I've figured out a formula for diluting the permethrin if anyone needs it. L=2T(P-0.5) L = The amount of water to add to the bucket T = Amount of permethrin solution you're adding to the bucket P = Percentage of the solution that is permethrin (dont divide by 100) The units you use to measure T will be the units that L will be in. For example: If you add 2 cups of 13.3% permethrin to the bucket then this equation will tell you to add 51.2 cups of water to the bucket. This will give you a 0.5% permethrin solution in your bucket.

Great question! The permethrins I recommend here do not contain petroleum distillates. It's my understanding (a cursory one at that, so I welcome anyone's more knowledgable explanation or correction!) that ones with petroleum not only are more likely to stain your gear/clothing, but are also more likely to pollute soil and ground water. There is probably WAY more to it, but I'd need to really research it to give a more thorough answer. I may do a video on this at some point to really dig deeper into it.

Good question! Permethrin works (at least in theory) against all insects. That said, in my experience, when, say a dragonfly has gone to land on my sleeve sprays with permethrin, it gets close then moves on before landing.
