Insert the Delta Symbol in Excel to Show Change in Values

Hi Alan. Awesome tip! Thanks for ALT+30 and ALT+31.. much easier than Insert => Symbol when you are in the middle of building a format or formula! Also, for your custom formatting trick, if you want the ▲ and ▼ to align left and the % value to align right, you can put the * symbol to the right of the arrow, as in: [Color10] ▲* 0%;[Red] ▼* -0%. Makes for a good visual of the arrows on the left and values on the right. As always, thanks for the great tips at Computergaga :)) Thumbs up!!

hi alan, your tutorial seemed familiar to one you did a long time ago, but was great for jogging the little grey cells... and although icon sets might be easier for some excel-punters, the custom fornat solution is far more attractive for me... stay healthy!

It all works except when I paste the symbols into the Format Cells dialogue they appear as q & p? Is there a way to fix that?

Ok, try adding double quotes "▲" around the symbols in Format Cells.

I have this problem when inserting the symbols from windings 3. If I insert them using alt+30 or 31 it works. The symbols look different in the formula bar inserting them the different ways.

Hi, for some reason it wont work for me. I see the delta simbol in my screen and excel cell, but keep getting "p" and "q" (Windgins3 representation of delta) on the formula bar, thus when copying it to my "custom data" screen, I get back "p" and "q" instead of Delta. Any help? thanks

Use Arial Font under the symbols tab and select geometric shapes under subset that should work 😉

You're welcome 👍 The third section of number formatting is for 0 values so you could put 0% after a second semi colon [Color10] ▲ 0%;[Red] ▼ -0%;0%

What formula are you using =(B2-A2)/B2 ? If it is the change formula it should be =(B2-A2)/A2. C2 = 42% not 30%
