This NG tube example is assuming the patient is Alert and Oriented ×4 and cooperative. Sometimes we have to do this on confused, uncooperative or even unconscious patients. I suggest having help.

How does it work in a case like this... when patient is unable to swallow or drink from straw.
@thatnursingprof26612 жыл бұрын
@@kembakirton3176 the procedure is still the same but you have another nurse hold the patient's head. We put NG tubes on babies in the NICU and they are not able to help us by swallowing.

Auscultation, injecting air and listening, is NOT best practice. Thanks. ASPEN has refuted its use for confirmation. Use pH or x-ray. Thanks!

Pinning it to the gown is not a good idea. They slip and slide, if they have a remote Tele box it pulls the gown which will pull the tube. It makes them hesitant to turn their head. Someone like a tech or family member may try to change the gown and jerk the tube.

I have noticed that when you insert it a tube( a catheter or the NGT) you do it real fast, is that how it should go and isn’t that harsh for the patient? Or you just do it for a quick demo?
@thatnursingprof26613 жыл бұрын
I go fast to minimize the discomfort to the patient

I had this done and it is not fun. I refused to be awake while the RN wanted to do this. She called down to the surgery department and told them i refused to let her do this while I was awake. The nurse told me that she realized how horrible the procedure was for patients until it was done to her. When they taped the tube to my nose for five days my left nostril has been bent towards the right making my nose looks crooked. That was thirty years ago and the end of my nose is crooked? The tube scratched my throat inside and it felt like a walnut was stuck in my throat. I Freaking! hated it and threatened to rip it out of me. No water, not even a drop for five days because of my surgery.
