For Educational Purposes this little video is a wonderful way to learn something of the religious life. Only God Himself knows how many graces He has poured out upon us who live in the world, in answer to the many prayers and sacrifices that Holy Religious like these have made and still make today.

Can you imagine the closeness Catholic communities used to enjoy? A sick mother with children having a sister visit her to lend spiritual comfort and a helping hand? A fragile dying elderly getting spiritual comfort and last rites from the Priest, as they lie in their own bed? The school in the village where your children attend being taught by the nuns linked to the Church you attend? A house of religious in the village that provides shelter, spiritual comfort, food, medicines, and clothing to the poor? A hospital founded by the same order of nuns, ran with strict discipline and efficiency for the sick and dying? These blessed spiritual sisters and the Mother Superior were role models to the entire village of young women, men, and children.

Daughters of St Teresa of Avila. Lovely nuns chosen by God to be His bride. I have never seen a grumpy looking Carmelite. I asked myself, "Why is it so?" They are happy and the cause of their happiness could not be bought, no matter how affluent we are. The secret of a hidden life with God. We too could be happy as they are if we can incorporate in our lives and pray in a contemplative way. Stillness, silence and solitude. To let the spirit of God enter our life and be inebriated not just by any kind of sprit but with the Spirit of God.

60 years later (2019). I wonder how life has treated these nuns over the years? The one girl he was talking to was around 18. She would be around 78 today.

This lovely monastery in Presteigne, Wales, was closed in 1988, but the lovely chapel built by the nuns operates as the parish church of the Assumption. The few nuns remaining in 1988 went to other Carmelite monasteries - some to South Africa! This film is one of the most lovely expositions of the contemplative life I’ve ever seen.

True love, true sacrifice, true humility. How it once was before the Church changed it to self expression, self worth, self love. Bless the sisters and thank God for them. A wonderful video.

Thank you for the video. How times have changed. So much simpler a life both inside the Carmelite Convent and outside. What a gentleman the reporter is. Nothing like that today. I know Carmelite nuns, and other Orders too, and they don’t have such a simplicity about them anymore. Nothing to do with Vatican II. It’s the way the world has changed, how people’s attitudes have become, and not for the better.

Some still do-the Carmelites of St. Therese of Lisieux in PA have the same beautiful simplicity as these. ^_^

The charism of the Carmelites is the same as far as I know until now. The Carmelites are contemplative and remain so today. Maybe you are referring to the third order nuns who are not in enclosures.

Real Nuns are women who respond generously from their hearts to God’s Will so life will flower. It has very little to do with exterior things such as habit or beautiful chapels or simple hermitage. These things provide a frame work to the call received. What is important is the Call and our response.

I've watched this many times and I love the young Sr. Imelda's obvious and heartfelt joy at being a Carmelite. Could you tell me which Carmel this was filmed at?

ReginaClareJane greetings, well the interviewer mentions "Prestine" twice, obviously it is an English Carmelite and there is a Carmelite Convent in or near Preston, England. Is it that Convent? One assumes it is. The name Prestine is associated to Preston, which is derived from the word Priest apparently. Peace.
