The museum house was my grandmothers house, so I know a lot about it... The picture shown at the 18 minute mark is of Daren McGavin and my first cousin, Jimmy. He was the guy who delivered the leg lamp and all you saw of him ironically was his legs. They used to go drinking after the shoot together. Up until my cousins death he was a docent at the museum hawking DVD's. He sadly passed away a year or two ago. He lived in a ramshackle house (his parents) all his life down the street on west 11th.

I like how they have literally made this all a museum for people to come and see. I wish something similar was done to the home alone house.
@youtuuba2 жыл бұрын
someboy5809, in order to do that, the homeowner would have to relinquish their home. In the case of the Christmas Story House, the owners years ago had put it up for sale on eBay, so they wanted to unload it. Also, this house is on a street in a part of Cleveland that was somewhat run down and 'lower rent' and the establishment of the attraction and museum here brought money into the neighborhood and increased property values, etc; But the house used for Home Alone was and is in an expensive and high class neighborhood that I suspect the other property owners around it would hate to have overrun with tourists every day of the year.

Fun fact: The owner of the museum bought the Christmas Story house on ebay(!) when it was listed in December of 2004. He spent the next couple of years completely gutting the interior and remodeling it to match the interior shots from the studio sets. As Hollywood often 'cheats' on the geometry between interior and exterior shots (the Brady Bunch house. hello!) the layout is not exact to the film's, but what they've created there is still quite an achievement. Great job as always, Jordan! Merry Christmas!

Did you also know that Jean Shepherd, the narrator of A Christmas Story, actually played a small bit part in the movie? He was in Higbee's store when Randy and Ralphie went to see Santa. When they line up, Shepherd's character says, "Hey kid, where do you think you're going?" Ralphie says, "To see Santa!" He replies "The line starts back there." AND, did you also know that Jean Shepherd is the voice of the father at Walt Disney World's Carousel of Progress attraction in the Magic Kingdom? Betcha didn't know that!!

Any movie that inspires preserving the house, a museum with the props and countless souvenirs in a huge gift shop, and that has become a Christmas tradition for millions, decades after a low budget film was made, well, I'd call that one helluva movie!!! The art director (not sure if he's alive) or the Art Directors' Guild in LA might be able to suggest where to look to find the floor plan views, and possibly some of the set design blueprints for portions of the interiors that had to be specially made. The actual house interior seen in this video is way off what is in the film. The film's house interior is made up for what was needed for the story and only very roughly compares to the house in this video (tho most of the outside of the house is still reasonably close to the way it was in the film.

I love this old movie. I watch it a couple of times during the Christmas holiday. Dont know how anyone could watch it each time its on!. But the iconic scenes are always entertaining no matter how often you see them. Its also evocative of an era in America that was special and most of us boomers can recall that time period which stretched well into the 50's
@breshkotashmal73625 жыл бұрын
We were there earlier this year and the tour guide told us that there were some interior shots filmed inside the house. She basically said any shot where you see an exterior window was filmed in the house and everything else was on a sound stage. Take it for what it's worth. Also, as you walk around the house (especially in the kitchen and upstairs), you quickly realize the layout of the house is very different from the movie. Side note: The furnace damper is on the kitchen wall behind the table (by the entry door). It didn't move when we tried it. It was still an awesome experience. If you go, be sure to lift and listen to the phone at the top of the steps.

I normally don't have the patience for a video of more than five minutes, but this was the exception. Alot of fun to watch. Now I'll be adding Cleveland to my bucket list. Thanks for this!

I love this movie! Great to see some of the movie props and interesting how they did the special effects for the tongue on the pole.

I loved this movie and watch it probably 12 times during the Christmas season, not counting Christmas day, so you do the math. This movie was so great because as children we all can relate to Ralphie. I have to get here one day. You can spend the night too. Darren McGavin and Melissa Dillon did a great job too. RIP Darren, thanks for the memories........"FRAGILEE....it must be Italian. " ;) Great movie! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
