The scene where they walk through the drainage ditch right there near the building was preceded by a scene with a building in the background that is nowhere around there. So, apparently there were two different cuts of the same scene with the same dialogue and they stitched them together. If you watch the movie it's when Tom is running toward them. The building right behind him is a large building. They start talking with the building in the background. Yet, when they get to the drainage ditch, they conversation continues as if uninterrupted, but that was two different locations. The drainage ditch was right there, but the tall building was somewhere else, either in Austin or Dallas. It makes me wonder if they originally cut the whole scene at the other location but later decided they wanted to do the drainage ditch scene and reshot part of it there.

Very nice video! I worked on the film, so it was fun to see all those locations again. Peter's apartment was built as a set, the production designer used the basic look of the apartments in the complex as a jumping off point, and it was located in the back of the office complex where we shot the Initech scenes. The rear of the office set was the conference room where the two Bobs hold their interviews; on the other side of the wall there was a big open space, the drop ceiling cleared out for maximum height and the apartment set was built there, which included a little recreation of the stairway landing and railing glimpsed outside the door when Peter enters.

This movie was almost an exact portrayal of my life at the time. In 1999 I lived in Las Colinas and worked as a programmer a few blocks away. The grassy canals were there and tgi-fridays nearby. My apartment had thin walls and I worked with other young men like Bolton and Samir. I also strangely began questioning life and one day left the job and never went back not giving notice.

lol my dad lived in Irving nearby Las Colinas and was also a programmer, though in the early 90's, like 92 or 93 I think. I feel ya, man. I related to plenty of things in it. My office digs were nicer than what you see in the movie (not many cubicles), but I could relate to the dreariness. I was a programmer at a small IT firm. For me, it was because of a dysfunctional work environment. Stuff would happen that didn't make sense, and we were just putting up with it. I reached a point where I quit, and it felt so liberating. I felt like Peter, where he just didn't care. The way Peter felt about Lundberg reminded me of how I felt about my boss, though he was not as casual and low-key. Peter's apartment living felt a little familiar. The comedy with that was funny as hell. The part I couldn't relate to at all was the angst, wanting to beat up office equipment, steal money, burn the place down. I just had to move on. The movie came out the year I quit. So, it was timed perfectly.

I worked in that office building for a few years starting in 2000 as an exec assistant. I saw 9/11 go down from a conference room in that building. The movie had just been filmed there apparently and the staff that was there at the time was thrilled. Many had a copy of the movie at their desks. I thought the same thing. I'm pretty sure I was fooled by a highway sign that says "Dallas" during the opening traffic jam. It must be a sign for a highway going to Dallas from Austin but I thought it meant they were on the outskirts of Dallas. I didn't know Texas well enough to know where Las Colinas was. But Lawrence does complain that he has to get up at 4:00am and "drive my ass up to Las Colinas every day this week". Google maps says it's about 3 hrs. So with that bad traffic he's probably on site by 7:30 or 8 which seems reasonable for a commercial drywall guy.

A year after it hit the theaters I was working in Houston for a computer company and living in a generic apartment like Peter's. Oh now I get it when you meant about filming locations. I should do a filming location as well since I live in Los Angeles. There will be tons.

Cool video! I was at the filming of the printer stomp scene for an hour or so, saw a few takes of the scene which was hilarious in real life also. Mike Judge and the crew were cracking up between takes. It was filmed in a field next to a firehouse on Manchaca, south of Slaughter.

This is amazing! I just re-discovered this movie again after getting an actual office job and I've watched it so many times in the past week. Thanks for showing the real life locations! I love that you even beat up a printer 😂

I'm going to have to watch the movie again. It's been years. If you could let me know when you're going to post your next video, that'll be great. Great video, Jay! Thank you!
