Today Architectural Digest brings you to Encinitas, California for a tour of the stunning and modern Crescent House, a spacious mansion situated on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Currently on the market for $23.5 million and designed by architect Wallace E. Cunningham, the shape of the crescent moon was a recurrent source of inspiration - from the circular terrace to crescent-shaped infinity pool. The effect is almost futuristic, something reinforced by having featured in the third season of HBO's 'Westworld.' With unbeatable ocean views and 4 bedrooms across over 6,200 square feet of space, the Crescent House is a uniquely luxurious home, worthy of its extraordinary location.

I had to re-watch after your comment but you’re right…the tub is legit a triangular hole in the ground. This guy went totally overboard on his artistic theme and forgot that this was actually something people had to live in each day. you can clearly see when a house is not created with the purpose of living in, but rather an investment art piece. this concrete structure made of harsh lines, sharp angles and unfamiliar shapes seems impractical to live in, but serves more of a purpose as a demonstration of wealth. to live in this home tells those around you that you can afford another home when this one sinks into the ocean, that you have a pool but never use it, that every time anything breaks in this house you can afford to have a specialist in parallelogram sinks to come and fix it. the architect has made an extremely artistic space, but let’s be honest, not many older people would want to exist in a cold concrete box for the rest of their lives.

I, a lowly poor, would never want to live in a house like this. However, I think it's incredibly impressive that the design and features are so unique and striking that I instinctively recognized it from the premier episode of Westworld S03. The scene in which it appears was filmed mostly at night, with very few wide angles yet the DNA of this house was an integral part of the production design. Kudos to the designer for making something truly 1 in a billion.

This goes to show that you can’t design a space solely around views of the ocean.. this has got to be the most awkward and impractical house I’ve ever seen. The architect clearly designed it with no specific ideas on who it’ll accommodate, and I doubt any child, young adult or elderly person would enjoy squeezing into the awkward corners of the tub, the pool, or the kitchen counters.

I watch a lot of design channels and view the interiors of many peoples homes on KZbin and this is handsdown the most impractical and cold and badly designed and quite frankly down right dangerous interior I have ever seen. Apart from the fact that it will slide off into the ocean sometime soon, the amount of windows and glass and concrete in an earthquake doesn't bear thinking about and the angles everywhere are an accident waiting to happen. Glass = sunlight= fading of furniture and clothes and damages the skin, its like a torture chamber where you can't get away from the sun and hard lines. Just terrible. Good luck whoever is stupid enough to buy this.

This home is "nice" in the traditional sense, but it does almost feel lair-like and somewhat of a cold vibe. An aspect that's driving this could be the heavy use of concrete without enough other architectural and interior design elements to balance it all out. Certainly a lot of home for $23.5M, but it doesn't feel worthy of the gorgeous California landspace on which it sits.

Ok - put aside the danger of living with razor sharp tables, counters, and the fire place. Put aside a walk in closet that breaks your hip if you change your clothes in the dark.. Average land value Los Angeles to Long Beach is 2.6 million per acre and I assume this location is on the expensive side of that average. Maybe someone with unlimited money would act like there’s nothing to think about for including a big yard, but in reality would most people buying this house prefer an extra half acre of grass for $2 million? Also consider for this property if they wanted a half acre area to play on, they could just walk outside their property line to the common area for lots of space. A large majority of people essentially don’t use their back yards and balconies if they have one

@@Jogwheel how do you expect that? How are you pricing real estate to say you expect more? Do you have a good comparable to point to in the same area to help indicate it’s overpriced and it’s fair to expect more at that price? Are you working out the price per sq foot combined with land to say it’s overpriced? In an expensive city with this much land this house would easily be way too cheap at just 24 million and it’s unrealistic in an expensive area to expect houses not to be packed into lots, there’s a reason why downtown’s are filled with expensive houses and small backyards, the price per sq foot is drastically more than people are willing to actually pay

this house is really eye-catching but why would you make the pool and bathtub so small? also all the angles are kind of scary (lol) the firepits on the terrace are like something out of a mad max movie 😂

Incredible piece of architecture. That said, it favors form over function and makes some features less than optimal. For example, the funky angles on the dining room table means that people sitting at the acute angled corners are sharing the same leg space and banging knees. The pool is shaded by the sheer walls, and the sharp angles at the corners of the pool also make for difficult maintenance. One small slip in the tub of the Master Bathroom will send you to the ER for stitches. So many sharp edges begging to maim you. But of course I’m nit-picking. I would buy this in a heartbeat if I could. 😄

Built on a cliff of sand, might want to check that foundation! Flossy, you don’t call a nice view a “money shot” you dope! That pool is not at all swimmable, so it’s just a water feature misplaced entirely. This guy for building a 23m house is surprisingly inarticulate.

You're joking right, a house at that price build on the edge of cliff. I wonder if the architecture had calculated the risk about landslide build on the type of land and at the edge of cliff. Can't imagine when that area hit by heavy rain for 3 day's.

That slope reminds me of the one in Pacific Palisades and a home there on a double lot that has had slope failure. Luckily the house is set well back from the cliff so is safe for at least another few decades.

Beautiful! The house manages to be nice while being very obnoxious (imo). Only one big question: when is it going to fall off the cliff??!! That's some serious erosion man! That fireplace isn't safe lol

I love the design of the house, but I would not want my infinity pools’ view to be a concrete sloping ramp. I would have deff put the pool at the back of the house. Though I know with erosion problems in CA coastlines that might not have been possible

I like the concept of having ramps instead of stairs for older or less able adults. I wonder if it could be adapted in a cost-effective way into standard homes.

After a certain size it's difficult to make a building look and feel homely or welcoming. This is a beautiful piece of architecture and it would make a great gallery or museum but it doesn't seem like a place where humans would choose to live full time.

I'll never understand how people can love a home that is so cold and hard. Concrete and metals everywhere, no thanks. You couldn't pay me to live in a house like that. The so called bathtub that's built into the floor looks like a deathtrap waiting to happen. Imagine falling into that! Ugh
