Fun fact: That 12cm wavelength is what causes your food to heat up unevenly. Microwaves transfer more energy at the peak of their wavelength (every 12cm). This is why microwaves have a rotating table. Though there always seem to be parts that get less heat energy

It's also why they direct the magnetron at a metal fan. The fan reflects microwaves into the cooking chamber but because it is rotating the waves are scattered helping to prevent hot spots. The fan also doubles as an actual fan cooling the magnetron and rest of the electronics.
@psirvent810 ай бұрын
@@Whatsinanameanyway13Modern microwaves don't have the metal fan anymore, at least here in Europe. The only one that I had come across so far that had one was a quite bulky brown unit likely from the early 80s. I know from having disassembled so many of them... Yet there are still schematics on the internet that show the waveguide and metal fan even though it's no longer part of new designs as far as real life microwaves go.

Great video. Love the subject (did not expect the arcs to move concentrically like that), the cinematography, and of course the editing/sound design is superb. You've outdone yourselves this time.

Having watched you guys for many years now, I’m always amazed when a video that pops up in my feed is brand new- always worth a look and a laugh Cheers!

That CD cooking footage is absolutely amazing! And the soundtrack over it was really cool. Would love a compilation of lots of things like that all together. Like a "tism tickler" for me! Lol

I really greatly appreciate that now that Dan's life is sorted and COVID restrictions have become a lot more laxed, we're getting way more content. Thank you Gav and Dan!

Wtf, that sequence at 4 minutes in shows just how insanely good of a director gavin is, that is one of the most cinematic things I've seen in recent memory. Feels like a space movie.

0:50 Gav - “a way to safely film it from the outside” Dan - *literally drilling a hole* 😂 Masterful editing these two are legends

This makes me want to see a return of “Is It a Good Idea to Microwave This?”. Especially with the technology and cameras now. You guys should bring that back!
