I can only imagine these guys' neighbors having guests over and then there's some kind of explosion and the neighbors are like oh yeah that just happens.
@RJSRdg4 жыл бұрын
@John Wyn Francisco Similar sort of thing used to happen with British comedian Michael Bentine. He used to create his own fireworks, so his neighbours all went away for a few days around Guy Fawkes' Night for their own safety! On one occasion he developed a 'two stage' firework rocket - two rockets fastened one on top of the other, with the idea that the explosion of the first rocket would ignite the fuse of the second one and send it up even further. Unfortunately what he forgot was that rockets turn upside down just before they explode - so the second rocket was fired downwards and buried itself in the roof of the thatched cottage next door. He called the fire brigade and the operator said "No need to give the address - we've been enough times before!"

So when I was training to be an aircraft mechanic and was learning about the physical forces that affect propellers, I learned that they're basically constantly trying to bend forward from the thrust, twist themselves straight from the pitch, stretch from the centrifugal force as well as bending sideways due to the rotation. Now that sounds impressive coming from a textbook, but I've always wondered what it looks like in slow motion ever since I read it. And from what I can find having a curious mind, nobody has done it with equipment as advanced as what you guys use here. It would be awesome to see this happen at an insanely high frame rate, anyone else think so?

I'm a researcher and an expert in rotary vibration. The warped ones cause unbalanced forces that cause the critical stress intensity factor to be exceeded at the centre due to unbalanced forces. The more symmetric ones break at the outside because that's where the angular acceleration is greatest (a = v^2/r). You can see the warped ones generating travelling circumferential waves, particularly for the one after the four sectors. This is beautiful, you could write papers on this. Make one out of transparent polymer and use a polarising filter, you will be able to see the stress patterns as a rainbow. AWESOME video :)
@Recovey06 жыл бұрын

Well it shattered at about 12500 frames per seconds and took about 4 seconds to do a full turn. If 1 second in 12500 fps is equal to around 40 seconds, I multiplied it by 4, then 60 for a full minute. Unless my math is wrong, it should have been spinning at about 9600 rpm when it shattered the first time.
@Bonez0r2 жыл бұрын
In the last round before it shattered I counted 81 frames (rougly 3:25 - 3:28, as a marker I used the letter C hitting the shadow). 12,500 fps / 81 frames per revolution = 154.3 rps. Multiplied by 60 that's 9259 rpm.
@Lacho5242 жыл бұрын
Taking this further. The radius of a record is about 0.15 m, and the time it takes to complete a revolution at it's max speed there is about 0.00625 seconds. From this we can calculate the speed of the edge of the record to be about 150 m/s 😳

This spinning is trying to make the record perfectly round and balanced, and when the record won't become, it explodes.
@paulbains91524 жыл бұрын
As it increases in speed , it goes thru harmonic barriers , that vibration shatters it internally .

I assumed it was the Centrical (centrifugal?) force pulling it apart till it can’t handle the force anymore
@CadenDoesGames4 жыл бұрын
@@ianwells2025 Centrifugal force doesn't actually exist, it just feels like it does when we experience spinning, instead, spinning objects experience centripetal force, which is a force inwards. This is why a spinning/orbiting object stays in a circular path, even though its velocity is always tangential to its path. That being said, centripetal force is (probably) why it shatters, because the inward acceleration wants to correct the warping but can't overcome it. So it's not being pulled apart, but failing to be pushed together. I hope this didn't come off as smart-assy I just wanted to give you an explanation.
@justuraveragegoat93874 жыл бұрын
Caden centrifugal force does exist and is the sole reason when you spin a bucket of water around it doesn’t fall out.

@3:05 Gav is a High Level understater. "I'm glad we put these (cement blocks) up." Yes, I indeed agree. May I suggest the blast shield be the blocks lined with plywood. Depending on the object of the test, plywood - wood of some sort - will better absorb and hold the shards rather than letting them bounce around the area. Like the bit that hit Gav's shield. Probably not fatal, but a good bleeder and possibly requiring clean linen. For Gav; probably also for the wound. Damage to 'blast shield': From ballistics testing, penetration in a hard surface is mainly a product of velocity. The faster the object moves, the greater penetration in a single hard surface. (Penetration in a homologous substance depends on mass [more or less].)

@Blazik3n996 жыл бұрын
They didn't do much this high-speed in the super slow show because most of the stuff they were recording didn't need it. They had an insane production quality, so IMO it makes sense that they recorded as much as possible in 4K, rather than in unnecessarily high framerates.

The first record in the video and the only one I was able to make out was Side A of a Crown Records various artists compilation from 1959 called “12 Top Hits”. The track list for Side A is: 1. “Stagger Lee” 2. “16 Candles” 3. “My Happiness” 4. “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” 5. “Goodbye Baby” 6. “All Of A Sudden (My Heart Sings)” Side B (label not pictured in the video) 1. “All American Boy” 2. “With The Wind And The Rain In Your Hair” 3. “Drummer Boy” 4. “Chipmunk Song” 5. “One Night” 6. “Children’s Marching Song” Wondering what records they were was the first thing that I thought of when they began the video. Anyone else a Vinyl Nut?! 😜 Who else will be looking these songs up now?! Cool experiment! Enjoyed watching! Thanks guys! 👍
