Maria was barely an adult, so young and trusting and vulnerable. Such a sad ending for her. She likely thought Cesar would at least not harm her because of the baby but she was so very wrong. I was born in Jacksonville while my father was assigned to Camp Legune as a NiS agent. That was in early 70s. I heard about this crime when it happened but didn’t get all the details. Having served in the Marines from 90-96 I can tell you that the Corps is full of these kind of people. Assaults, rapes, rampant drug use was common even then. Most of those in charge would look the other way because they didn't want any kind of negative publicity coming down on them. This isn't hearsay this is what I know personally myself. Yes there was good men and women but they had at least one horrible person for every good person.
