In this video, we take a break from work on the farm and get dropped off in the closest town to explore a local Korean market in the village of Cheongyang, South Korea. We hope to get a glimpse into what a traditional market looks like in Korea and see whether we can meet some friendly locals.

ABOUT ME:
In 2013, I started my solo travel journey, leaving Indonesia in 2016 to become a full-time traveller and KZbin creator. My background in International Relations has fueled a profound interest in exploring different countries. My content focuses on exploring different cultures through the lens of a solo female traveller, aiming to capture real-life interactions and experiences.
My travels kicked off with a five-month trip across Asia, after which I moved to China in January 2017 to work as an English teacher-my first time living abroad. I left China in 2018 to fully commit to creating videos on KZbin, where I share my travels and the cultures I encounter.
Living nomadically since 2016, I settled in England in early 2022 after marrying my British husband, David. Now based in the UK, I continue to travel and share my adventures on KZbin.

The tea ceremony was beautiful. What a kind and generous lady. Thank you for making such authentic content of Korea. The roots are not for alcohol. It looks like some were ginseng which has healing properties. These roots are for cooking and making tea.

Korean countryside is such a vibe. 💗💗Unlike the hyper pace of Seoul, people here are chilled , opened and seem overall happier. To viewers who don't know Korea is heavily coffee drinking nation and tea drinking culture really don't exist contrary to neighboring Japan and China.

I didn’t exactly have a… good day, but your video was a perfect little escape. Thanks, guys. I spent a month in Korea a decade ago, when I used to live in Kuala Lumpur and fly with Air Asia here and there. I have nothing, NOTHING but awesome memories from the country in general, and the people in particular. I was extra lucky to see two Korean friends I had made in other countries, in previous trips, and catch up in person.

Aww Diba! It's so nice to read your comment. So sorry to hear that you didnt have the nicest day! I am glad to hear that the video has become a little short escape for you. Yes I find that Korean are much more cheerful and open to foreign travellers and less reserved, which makes it easier to mingle and get to know them particularly closer. So glad to hear your travel story, thanks for sharing :)

When you say 짠 in Korean, it helps if you mentally visualize the clinking sound of beer glasses hitting. That's what 짠 means, and the visualization helps with getting the right infliction. And there is an element of the word sort of ringing and fading out, the same a clinking of glasses would sound. : )

i am an expatriate, away from South Korea over a half century ago. But i still remember the days I spent at my grand father’s house. I was a mere 7 y/o, we had over 30 cousins not to mention our uncles and aunts who all gathered at our grandfather’s farmhouse in a sense as refugees from the war (Korea war erupted in 1950, when suddenly North Korea invaded), more importantly food was scarcely available in those days. So, it was necessary for us to gather in my grandfather’s house as they ran a huge farmland cultivating all sorts of crops including rice and beans, and raised chicken and hogs, also a huge mulberry farm which was basically to use leaves for raising silkworms. We spent the whole summer of 1950 (Korean War erupted in June 25, that year) oh, we 32 cousins roamed through the mountains picking edible mushrooms, catching fish in the near by shallow river, etc. It was a wonderful time for us, at least for me. But that winter both grand parents, and 7 other family members got killed by American bombing from the sky. Strangely, I only seem to remember the fun time in the summer of 1950 but not the tragedy that came upon my family. Two of 9 members were my two younger brothers. Syifa, you so remind me of my old time in Korea. Those innocent days., which was enough to disguise the brutality of the war. Over 70 years later, tears welling in my eyes as I watch your KZbin. It was a gem. thank you, the best travel vlog. Bravissimo,

I love love reading this type of story and I am so grateful that this video has been recommended to you. I am sorry to hear how some of your family members got killed by American, what an awful thing to go through this war and had to loose family members in such brutal way. Hello Abdul, thanks so much for your comment. Credit goes to my husband as he has been editing the videos for the past few months. He is able to take the story-telling to next level during post-production. When we travel together, I would be the one who would research destinations or brainstorming video concept for this channel. Now that I am back travelling alone, I do everything by myself. The key to this skill is basically just practice. I have done KZbin for the past 8 years now so it's a craft and skills that you develop by keep doing it over and over.

The gentleman who gave you free nuts was being hospitable because you are foreigners (nothing to do with promoting his business). The market is remote and not one your subscribers will likely visit. Koreans are hospitable and have a term called "service" where they often give things for free out of hospitality.

I wouldnt call it spicy as I have got a high level of spice tolerance. However, I'd say it has got a nice red pepper kick to it and a lot spicier in comparison to Japanese cuisine. Have you ever tried any Korean food?

Hi Syifa, fab video, lovely market to visit, wonderful interactions, I believe the "cashew" basket was actually what we call Brazil nut in the USA, it has very little flavor, my least favorite nut by far. Also the flat fish looked like turbot not stingray 🙂

Who are you Syifa, what happened to you? You may travel the whole world but your final destination will be the place from where you started. So think about it...🤔
