It should be noted that the host for this visit was the PAG Commander and Presidential Pilot USAF Col. David Banholzer. He tragically passed away in late 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Met him just a few times but I knew some of the pilots and navs in PAG that knew him best. Great guy, dedicated officer and tremendous pilot. He left behind a beautiful family. Clear skies and tail winds Colonel!

@liamsullivan44848 жыл бұрын
but it's not news though
@vidjdwhite8 жыл бұрын
Liam Sullivan Yes it is. Every single relevant news station has done docu-news type stories. This isn't one about 2nd graders coming together over a retarded girl. This is Air Force One. This was planned for a long time despite knowing what was going to be in the news that day, unless it was a major attack or Jesus was born again then it would be quite irrelevant. They had no idea what kind of stories they would have when they decided to do this piece, didn't matter, they knew this would trump it and it certainly wasn't a slow day planning and executing something like this.
@liamsullivan44848 жыл бұрын
John D I know it would take ages to plan and I know other new stations have done stuff like this but that doesn't mean it's news. Air force one has been around since the 1940s so it's not 'new's. News definition: "newly received or noteworthy information, especially about recent events". I wouldn't consider the 1940s recent
@vidjdwhite8 жыл бұрын
Sure, it is different from day to day reporting. It's different but it IS still news. Even if by definition it wasn't (it is) but even if it wasn't, it doesn't mean it was a slow day, which was the main point here. There could have been some pretty heavy leads that day and I'm sure the station disregarded them. In-fact the station disregard hundreds of potential stories every day. Trust me it was not a slow day, if anything, it was way more busy. Oh, and here is part of the definition you forgot to copy and paste.... a broadcast or published report of news. plural noun: the news "he was back in the news again" informal information not previously known to someone. So, we don't have to compare apples to oranges here.... it was a busy fucking day.

What is so strange about this is that it has no glass cockpit and still has the old analog instruments. This was first used by GHW Bush (1988-1992). The 747-400 came out in 1988 so what model is this, a 300? Glass cockpits came out on US airlines in the early 80's, first with the MD-80 and then with the 757/767 series which had roughly the same cockpits. Does anyone know why Air Force One was not a 400 series when they were already 2 years old? Was it because they started building this plane prior to its introduction? Thanks,

Can be Boeing 747-8 next Airforce one
@nicholasbenge25964 жыл бұрын
@@bijaysitaula7006 the USAF has bought two surplus 747-8 Intercontinentals from Boeing (these two were bought by a Russian airline that folded and were in storage). They are currently getting the necessary modifications to be used by the President. Once both are completed, they will replace this.

Good video.

The cockpit instrumentation is about as old school as you can get anymore. I wonder how challenging it is to still find parts for that plane. There aren't a whole lot of 747-200s still flying anymore; and most other operators are retiring their much more modern 747-400s.

Ever hear of the B-52 still flying from the 1950s?

As a retired cancer Registered Nurse I so hate to know that the late Col David Banholzer passed away in 2016 from a battle with cancer. He looked like such a healthy fellow in this video. God bless his family. Great airplane and crew. Can't wait till a conservative rides in it again.

I read that the White House is up for a new Air Force One. I'm impressed. Air Force One is such an expensive piece of equipment. With a new luxury liner, I wish the White House would start a tradition of inviting an ordinary citizen (and a patriot) from among the American people to be a guest of the president as he/she travels to a foreign country -- ONCE! And as I said, the lotto winner would naturally be screened for patriotism to the country.

The press is allowed on board. The plane has seating in the cargo area that like first class seating

They are replacing them with the 747-8. The current Airforce Ones are old as hell and need to be replaced. They are the 747-200 model and are beyond their 30 year lifespan. They don't even make parts for them anymore. So if something breaks they are replacing it with old ass refurbished parts if they don't have the part new. It's sort of disgraceful that the president is flying around in this old hunk of junk.

BewareTheIdes Thank you. Those of us here below are just awed by such stories. The closest I've been to such goings on is as a temp employee with Boeing in Renton, where a 747 was being retrofitted to the tune of some 50 million dollars for the king of Saudi Arabia. Needless to say, I was overwhelmed!

I think Obama has invited some people on board and you can fly with it as member of the press corps. But your idea is kinda cool, I like it.

You guys do know the plane is not named Air Force One. Air Force One is just a call sign for what plane the President is in.

Air Force one is only named that if POTUS is on board, without him on board, it's called Executive One.
@alonelychild8 жыл бұрын
Justin Lareaux partially right. Executive One is the name given to a commercial airplane carrying the President, but only Carter did it. When Potus isn't onboard, it is simply called "VC number" .
@bob80q7 жыл бұрын
no dipshits, its call sign is SAM 28000 (or 29000); and Nixon was the only President to fly on a commercial aircraft. Too many idiots who don't know jack lurking on the internet these days.
@baraxor7 жыл бұрын
If not carrying POTUS (Air Force One) or VPOTUS (Air Force Two) then the call sign is the tail number (28000 or 29000) prefixed by SAM (for Special Air Mission) if DVs are aboard, and VENUS if not. Executive One is an aircraft carrying POTUS that isn't operated by the armed services.
