To everyone who doesn't know what the fuck just happened, let me explain. That kid was being mind controlled by you, the player, the whole time. The person you see with the device on their head at the end? That represents you. The screens and monitors represent you watching the kid - that's probably why you see everything in third person. After he unplugs the giant wire, you can clearly see him slump over, just like all the other mind-controlled people do when the kid stop controlling them. You unplugged yourself from the kid. And the game.

So what does this mean? Well, considering that the boy's stance following his flicking of the switch mimics those of the zombies when they are disconnected from a mind control machine, this seems to suggest that Inside is breaking the fourth wall here and pointing out how you are in control of the boy. When you turn off the switch, you are effectively cutting off the mind control connection between you and the player-character, therefore ending the game. This suggests that the boy hasn't been fighting towards the end of the game of his own volition, but rather because you have commanded him to do so. Even though the boy reacts to being disconnected from mind control in a similar fashion to the zombified humans you encounter, it's clear that he is different from them. For one, they appear to possess a superhuman level of durability, with them able to fall from great heights without so much as breaking a sweat, whereas the boy would die upon impact. Then there are the extra abilities the boy possesses, such as being able to swim, jump and, later in the game, control the minds of others without the use of a helmet. If the boy is also a test subject, which is hinted at by the secret ending, then he is clearly more advanced than the other experiments he encounters. He even has audible reactions to the events around him, exhibiting shock and fear when confronted by enemies. This suggests that he is at least partially cognizant in regards to his surroundings and actions, unlike the other experiments that litter the factory which behave more like reanimated corpses than actual human beings. If the boy is an escaped test subject, as has been suggested, then it's curious as to why he'd want to return to the factory he has escaped from. This is where the second theory regarding Inside's secret ending comes into play - perhaps the boy is actually being controlled by the blob he becomes swallowed by later in the game. If this is the case, then this would suggest that the switch located in the vault buried beneath the cornfield doesn't disconnect the boy from the player, but rather from the blob. This would then explain why the boy is so keen to venture into the factory and sacrifice himself in order to rescue the blob, with him unplugging it from the cables holding it in place, before it promptly envelopes him and begins rampaging through the factory. With the boy seemingly being an advanced experiment, the blob only gains the ability to effectively escape from his underwater cage when he gains access to the boy's substantial "powers" by swallowing him. As such, the boy appears to merely be a catalyst for the blob's escape. A major theory that is validated pretty early on in the game is that Inside is set in same universe as Limbo, Playdead's previous platformer. There are a few of reasons why this appears to be true, with the mind-control slugs that appear around the game's introductory sequences being chief among them. This time around these slugs don't latch themselves onto the player, but rather onto animals - specifically, pigs - with them leaving a slew of dead pig bodies behind. Now, their fondness for pigs rather than humans this time around is likely a result of them being manufactured by the factory for future experimentation upon humans, with pigs actually being used for human medical research in the real world. Given that pigs can carry and transmit the same parasites and diseases as humans, that they're so prominent in the early stages of the game is no coincidence. Then there are the gravitational puzzles, which utilize switches similar to Limbo in order to reverse the gravity of the world, with Inside predominantly using them to alter the direction of water. Finally, the supersonic machine that delivers insanely powerful explosions for no discernible reason in Inside is very similar technology to the rainmaker featured in Limbo, which used similar explosions to incite rainfall in an area. These three prominent similarities - and I'm sure plenty more will be discovered as more people play the game - have led to the suggestion that the factory workers in Inside are reverse engineering the technology featured in Limbo, but I'd wager that Inside instead takes place prior to the events of Limbo, given that the mind control slugs are evidently still in their prototype stage at that point, as evidenced by them latching onto pigs rather than humans. The most downright terrifying enemy you encounter throughout the duration of Inside is undoubtedly the long-haired, naked creature that chases you underwater throughout the latter half of the game. However, when it eventually catches up to you and appears to finally drown you, in actuality it effectively prompts your "rebirth," hooking you up to a machine similar to the mind control helmets that allows you to not only breathe underwater indefinitely, but also control every other human experiment you come into contact with on a whim.This is undoubtedly one of the most curious scenes in the game, but does explain why out of all the experiments, the underwater creature is the only one that actively appears to be hostile towards you. This is seemingly due to it not wanting to kill you, but rather "help" you by attaching you to the machine and granting you new powers. Each time you die as a result of it drowning you, it was actually due to it failing its goal, which explains why after being "reborn" you're never confronted by it again. But why is it so concerned with sparking your rebirth? Well... Inside concludes with a lingering image of the blob lying on a patch of grass next to the shore, the sun beaming directly down upon it, with it still finally completing its goal of escaping from its watery cage and finally gaining freedom from its captors/creators. Unless the boy willingly sacrificed himself for the blob, it is presumable that it was directly in control of his actions, a theory which is further evidenced by the secret ending. Then there's the aforementioned water creature who helps the boy gain extra powers, all of which are crucial to eventually getting the boy to rescue the blob. It's therefore quite easy to theorize that the blob shares a telekinetic link with each of the experiments in Inside's world, with it able to manipulate them for the sole purpose of freeing itself from the factory. This would suggest that, despite its gelatinous, monstrous appearance, the blob is actually an intelligent life-form and is the only experiment featured in the entire game that is acting of its own free will. This essentially means that although the player only physically controls the blob in the last few chapters of the game, in actuality they've been playing as the blob the entire time by way of controlling the boy. However, there is another, decidedly more interesting conclusion I've landed upon: the blob is actually in control of the player, too. If the game was always about rescuing the blob from the factory, and in order to do so the blob manipulated the various test subjects both inside and out of the factory's walls, then this suggests that the player has also been manipulated. Think about it: the player is given little insight into what they are doing throughout the game. As with most games, all they know is that they must keep running towards their vaguely outlined objective. Despite them physically controlling the events of the game, they are also being controlled by the game itself by way of being forced to follow the game's instructions in order to continue their progress. The blob is therefore controlling the player, who is then in turn controlling the boy who is being forced by the blob to free it from the factory. The game ends with the player no longer able to control the blob, which could either be a result of it having died due to the mighty fall from out of the factory, or because the blob simply does not need controlling any longer. It has reached its destination, so therefore the player has fulfilled their duty.

You Can Look At It As If It Was Hinted In The Game When The Boy Attached Himself To A Helmet And Controlled A Subject And Then Made The Subject Attach Itself To Another Helmet And Control Another Subject.. That's Strengthening Your Theory Even Further.. Maybe The Blob Controlled Us And Made Us Control The Boy..

Lots of people saying the 'mermaids' let you breath underwater. Pretty sure that's not the case. I think when you get snatched and pulled down, you see the boy die. However they also insert a parasite (using that weird tube) that then effectively reanimates the body of the boy, hence why he no longer needs to breath. From that sequence onwards, the main character is dead, and only his body remains, under the control of the system. Also explains why unplugging the system disconnects the boy. He can't suddenly breath underwater, he just no longer needs to breath.

One interesting detail I found while replaying the game. If you go down that same bunker hidden below the cornfield, there is a photo of what appears to be that blob(it is in the red room). There also seems to be a photo of a cage that looks very similar to one of the cages in a later puzzle. I also found it interesting that there are a lot of cans on the shelves, which kind of looks like can food in my opinion. I think this bunker is the place where a person is doing research on mind control experiments. Whoever made that bunker is also likely to be the owner of that farm close by. So the farmer likely did some experiments on his/her own animals. One final thing, if you stand still in that bunker long enough, the light bulb will eventually turn off. I am kind of freaked out now, lol.

@TheBobandNormanStory8 жыл бұрын
I don't believe they were zombies, just creatures made by humans and controlled by other humans. The secret ending breakers the 4th wall. When unplugging you see the character go limp like when your characters control a "zombie" and unplugs himself the mind control hat. This secret ending means that we were controlling him the hole time. He had no free will but controlled by us; the player. And by unplugging the cord at the end shuts us down and makes us restart the game. I am not sure what the actuall blob thing ending means. It may have to do with fitting into the he crowd and when we brake free it represents being free from the social norm and not bound to society. We are finially free and can be who we are.
@elipter96898 жыл бұрын
That is a fantastic analysis. How did you come to that conclusion?
@TheBobandNormanStory8 жыл бұрын
It can be interpreted in many ways. For instance when you fall in the line of the mindless "zombie" and you have to follow the commands. This could be interpreted as fitting in to society and if you fit in and pass you carry on down the line. Or it could be interpreted as a line of game characters being tested to see if they function correctly for us players to control. This game doesn't explain much to us so anything we interpret could be the ending. There is no right or wrong answer at this time.

@connormaclane8 жыл бұрын
It is a very deep meaning. I mean the normal ending is clearly stating that escaping wasn't really worth it. Supported by the fact one of the cages you roll through looks exactly like the mountain and shore at the end. And then this ending you become one of the zombies. Although I can't really analyse this ending as well tbh. Maybe showing that us, the gamers, are in control of their lives like the 'bad guys'? By looking for this ending, maybe it shows we search to control too much. I don't really know - a way too deep game like you say. Probably intended to mean different things to different people.
@WhiteZet18 жыл бұрын
It might truly have multiple meanings. In the end you break OUTSIDE, and are not INSIDE the facility. And if we look at the secret ending where we unplug ourselves and become like the zombies. Could mean the message: Go outside. Also in the background the guy playing the game is in dark. Just playing the game mindlessly not thinking much or doing anything. The pose which the boy enters is the same as with the other zombie creatures, which you can control... Maybe the secret ending has it's own meaning, and maybe the normal ending and the game has it's own meaning, and maybe them both combined have it's own meaning. We'll just have to wait and see what people come up with. Some guy here said it might have no meaning besides that everything is trapped. Both in the secret and real ending you kind of leave the game...

My theory is the kid we play as in the video is one of those mind control people that we keep seeing throughout the game. The person who controls him is the player. The player does not want any of this to be happening with controlling people so they try to free everyone. The people who started the mind controlling think he has somehow unconnected from them and they are trying to catch him. I can explain the blob ending by say that the blob was hooked up it the mind control helmets and it is the center of controlling things. When the player brings the boy into it, you begin to control the blob and the only way to stop it is by getting the mind control slug out of it. when you bring the slug down into the light the slug begins to crawl out of it showing that the blob is now dead and cannot control anymore things. I can explain the secret ending by saying that in the case it is that creature that controls everything and when you pull the plug it is now dead. Support for that you are a mindless slave: in the secret ending when you pull the plug you go limp. That is my theory on the game inside.

The blob is a bad ending where the thing that escapes the blob in the ending is let loose from containment by you, which is what it wanted the whole side. The other is the good ending. You unplug the blob which controlled the boy. You as the player basically disobey the blob. That's why the game is called inside. The whole time the blob is controlling the boy so that it ca let the blob loose, but the good ending is to kill it inside. Get it?

To my mind , this whole game follows this "control" chain - WE->The Ball->the boy&every other "worker". I think the Ball always tries to find a way to fool the system, so sometimes he uses some of workers to find a way to save him ( we kind find lots of corpses of those who failed to pass the security) . The boy - just another controlled "worker" , but who hasn't been "harvested" yet. Even the girl/boy with long hair is probably controlled by the Ball because he/she actually helps us. It attaches that strange thing to our body which maybe gives us an understanding that we don't even need it. When the boy finds the ball we find out that it's some kind of experiment all in all ( it looks like "normal" people knew that it would happen one day. Proof - lots of people watching and helping us , a crowd in the end, looks like a show . The boy disconnects the chain The Ball->the Boy&"workers", the Ball consumes him and they become one, controlled by us. It looks like the Ball consists of other people and connected to the pipe and four control hats ( probably it's the one who controls all those zombie-like humans everywhere. ). Once control hats are off , it doesn't care about being a tool for "normal" people. It tries to find it's way to freedom and maybe just death. My point is, that even till the end we control the ball, but when we restart the game, we should know the pattern to open the door in the corn field. We go there as a boy who's controlled by the Ball which is controlled by US . WE know the pattern . WE want to save the Ball and all those mindless abominations of experiments and flesh. In the end we see a control hat connected to computers , wires and screens. My idea is that it actually represents US. The boy destroys the connection between the ORIGINAL control hat and computers ( US ) by taking care of the electricity. In the end , the Boy falls like any other "Worker". This is what leads me to believe that once the connection in the chain WE ->the Ball is no more, the Ball can no more be controlled by anything, so every "worker" is no more as well. Ultimately it is the Ball which showed us the way to kill it , somewhat knowing that in the next playthrough or the next after that one the player will find out the way to destroy the connection. And thus the Ball found it's true way to salvation and death , making our hearts be free from the burden this game puts on our shoulders. THE END.

Maybe WE (the player) are being controlled by the ball. During the gameplay, You're never told why you're doing anything, there's no explanation, you just do it. The boy could control other "workers" with the hat, but if the boy was just another "worker", he could be controlled the same way by another "worker", in this case, we are this "worker" and the ball is our master.

*SPOILERS* Many people don't get what happened in the normal ending. You can go on the pewdiepie video, there is this comment that a person named *Poseidon5Ckw* posted, and it says that meanwhile you control the blob you fell in a small glass cage, and then you go out and all, BUT in that glass cage you can see a 3D map of the end (the hill with trees that you roll down, the beach with a LIGHT, sea...) Wich means they WANTED you to ''escape'' and think you actually got out, but you are actually in a very big cage thing. Once again: *This is not my idea, Poseidon5Ckw saw this*

Well, I was waiting a little bit more from the endings... The backrground story is huge. I think the ends are a little bit poor. Maybe they just wanted to leave everything to our imagination.

@l1lunc1v1l8 жыл бұрын
+Stefan Gamble Probably because the wanted the protagonist to find it to feel free, at first they were trying to stop you and then near the ending people stopped hunting you and started helping because they just wanted you to have the sense of freedom. But you're still in a cage. My bet is that the moral of the story is that no matter how hard you try you'll always be trapped in a sense

Maybe the things the blob has connected r the helmets, probably the blob is controlling the person (Which represents the gamers) in the secret ending that at the end the boy disconnects from and we can no longer control him. At the end the blob no longer needs to be connected because the boy has the power to control any of the experiments and the boy is part of the blob, once the blob broke free the blob no longer controlled the gamer to help it get free, (the blob wasn't smart enough to do it by itself). At the end where the blob ends up cannot be outside since light doesn't work that way, maybe it was a created environment (cage) by the ppl that created the blob.
@apeture_explorer48108 жыл бұрын
The original ending was the boy attempting to give free will back to man kind. His will in itself was so strong that it overtook the will of the other what I think are volunteers. This ending exists to give the other more clarity to the real one. The boy is a controlled entity too, but is not a collective. He is controlled by a free minded individual: us. When he took control of the abomination the organization with no name created, the hive mind really, he killed them and himself, for if the goal is to give mankind total free will, he cannot exist either.

Wow......thats a mindf*ck. I was wondering how they were going to change the course of the games' ending. That did it. Also, on a slightly unrelated note (since everyone here is assumed to have beaten the game) ((But if not: SPOILER)) Does anyone know what the mermaid (4 lack of a better word) creature is supposed to represent? other than the fact that you spend the whole time running from it, but then it gives you the power to breathe underwater. Basically, towards the end, right before the blob, you are basically the exact same as the water creature (i.e. can breathe underwater & have no clothes, but minus the long hair). So maybe another "boy/avatar" made it inside the building, but not to the blob? .......anyone have any thoughts on this, or am I over/under thinking this?

Masterpiece of a game. Played through it twice. There's definitely a ton of themes of conformity and control. The "zombie" esque humans, I'm still trying to figure out. Some groups of them can be heard snoring like they're in a constant state of sleepwalk. Also, are they even human at all? They can fall from insane heights without breaking bones and later in the game, it seems like they're being "grown" matrix style in the room where they're hooked up underwater on the ceiling. Synthetic humans possibly. When you crush the possible CEO of the company as the blob near the end, his limbs move around like the synthetic humans. Also, (I'm reaching here but it's just a fun fan fiction I came up with" what if when the mermaid creature drowned the boy, before he rebirthed...he dropped into Limbo? Explains why the boy in Limbo can't swim and drowns in water. Eh, eh?
@sunless__8 жыл бұрын
I take back what I said about the CEO. I'm pretty sure those were just limbs that fell off of the blob/king of limbs/whatever you wanna name it, after the impact of the fall because limbs fall off of it and twitch around in a later part.

I was thinking about some details on this game, I think this game is set in the future, human life has no value, human life is used like a product, I think that's why all the humans don't have any facial features, like we lost our humanity, we see some civilians that are using masks, like they are blind to the fact that they are just as worthless as those that they consider zombies or "products"
@danielmelo11538 жыл бұрын
"However, there is another, decidedly more interesting conclusion I've landed upon: the blob is actually in control of the player, too. It has reached its destination, so therefore the player has fulfilled their duty." Alright here's the theory, The blob human part shitty creepy thing at the end have the helmets, but, who's controling? That's right, the boy, the blob was the one in control of the kid to free himself, but, if WE control the kid, that means the blob control US, what we're doing in this ending, is trick the blob, by disconnect the machine that we are using to control the boy, that way, the blob will control us, but he'll not free himself because the boy is no longer being controled, i hope i was explanatory enough.

for those wondering where you can find the sequence, it's next to the glowing orb at the bottom of the building with the broken sign/billboard seen during the rooftop segment early in the game. There's a cassette player that plays the tunes in sequence. If you're smart enough to relate the tunes with the switch directions, you can decipher it.

@boregardjeperson59168 жыл бұрын
So there's three characters to decipher: The blob, the guy at the computers, and the kid. The blob I think controls the mindless people in the facility. Clearly from the kid getting a headache controlling 20 people it takes a lot of power to control all the slaves in the facility, and the blob is designed to handle controlling all of them. Thats why he has the multiple headsets attached to him and is trapped in the chamber. The security guards, men in suits, and construction workers aren't controlled though, and they're there to keep everything under control. However, the construction workers are the most detached from the system and some of them can see its wrong, and thats why some of them help you. The guy at the computers is the player. The computers are how you're seeing the whole game from that 3rd person perspective and the helmet he has on is how he is controlling the kid. He sees the game on the screen, and navigates the kid through it. The player is the one freeing the blob, not the blob freeing itself. In the alt ending the player disconnects himself from the kid, hence the kid falling to his knees like all the people in the game did when the kid disconnected from them. The last part to consider is who is controlling the blob at the end and I think its the player controlling it by putting the kid inside of it. You, the player, are freeing the blob from the facility with the help of the construction workers who want to see this system end and these people set free. This would explain why you the player are making the blob's decisions since its pretty obvious from the alt ending that the player controls what happens. I know this theory is pretty different from stuff in the top comments so feel free to let me know if there's anything about it that doesn't make sense. This is just how I interpreted it :)

+Sara reeves Limbo was a boy looking for his sister, or aleast a boy looking for a girl, that's why the game ended when he found her. It wasn't u find her and the game keeps going. Inside has no closure and with as many questions that game raises there needs be some sort of closure. The whole "What does it mean to you?" doesn't work here cuz the possibilities are much too broad. That works if your staring at a picture but not playing through 3 HOURS of mysterious situations and unexplained concepts. Like that shockwave thing that keeps killing you, that could be ANYTHING! And you would have to completely write a story for a game someone else made.
@SaraSaraBoBara18 жыл бұрын
It's not just a boy looking for his sister, there are all kinds of questions left unanswered. For example; is he in Hell? Did he kill his sister? Did they die playing in the tree house? Did he push her out of the tree house and then get killed by the group of boys that follow throughout the game? When you bust through the glass, is that symbolic of something? When you find your sister, why does she appear to be afraid of you? Are you in limbo being punished? Consider what limbo means; souls that can't enter heaven due to never being baptized; both children die young, why is the sister's limbo a pleasant flower picking good time, and the boy's is horrific? That should indicate that he did something horrible in life... Like maybe kill his sister. Both bodies are seen dead and rotten, but clearly both have different fates. Inside is the same in the sense that it ends with a ton of unanswered questions. I just finished Inside for the first time today and don't have as many theories yet, but both stories, Limbo and Inside have infinite possible meaning; imagination is the limit. The creators made the games that way intentionally.

the Blob wanted to be free, so it took control of the boy. Using the boy it broke into it's holding chamber to be set free. The scientists, I believe, made the blob in order to control the minds of other humans, the blob is plugged in at 4 points to the mind control machine. I'm not sure why the Blob cannot just mind control all the humans keeping it hostage. I think its powers are limited but I also think it has tried to bring other boys to it... At one point you see a bunch of people running across a gap into the building. I think those are other boys but you are the first to make it to the Blob. What is true however, is when you free the Blob from the machine, the boy freaks out. I think this is because the blob lost it's control over the boy, so instead of being mind controlled, the boy is freaking out realizing he is about to be eaten by a Blob. I think the secret ending represents cheating the system, by disconnecting the power to the whole game you end the world pretty much, but the reward is you don't have to do what the Blob wants.
@jamesperrott18 жыл бұрын
People are saying that the boy isn't the one doing all this, and someone is controlling him. Yes, but you as a player are not controlling the boy then, that means you are controlling whatever was linked to that thing, and we're just doing everything in the boy's body, so the thing clearly knew what it was doing as it was the one who unplugged it, the boy didn't just somehow take over and know how to stop it, and if he did, he just went to being like brain dead anyway

+Hector lopez it doesn't have anything to do with it because of the sister, murder, and hotel not being shown. I did see a reference to limbo though that no one else seems to have mentioned. The pigs near the beginning were being controlled by the same parasite that was in limbo. I know for a fact that inside isn't related to limbo's storyline but maybe that parasite uncovers a secret to the plot line of inside as in something from limbo, not the story of limbo. It could be (not sure at all) showing that he was in limbo the whole time, because it does kind of go the same way. He has a goal and he doesn't stop until he completes it, and then it ends. Same thing in both games. Don't know if this is a coincidence, reference, or actual connection. Let me know what you think.

I've got an explanation that is the disconnection in this end is between the blob and those 'working zombies'. After all those puzzles and stories players has gone through, this game just provide an extra and direct solution. We can imagine after breaking the connection, the blob would probably do the same stuff as what we do in the normal ending. And in this way the boy does not need to be absorbed in the end. So perfect ending right? :)
@SternSupremacy8 жыл бұрын
Here's my theory: The boy could be an experiment of his own. He reacts to the events around him, exhibiting shock, fear, etc when facing the mermaid creature, dogs, and so on. This suggests that he is at least partially cognizant in regards to his surroundings and actions, unlike the other experiments that litter the factory which behave more like reanimated corpses than actual human beings. If the boy is an escaped test subject, then it's curious as to why he'd want to return to the factory he has escaped from. Which lead to my next theory... The boy was being controlled by you; the player. By pulling that plug, he cut off the connection, ending your control on him, thus ending the game. In a sense, you as a player, maybe making a moral decision, set the boy free. OR, perhaps the player is ACTUALLY the blob, and is leading the boy to it in order to set it free, because once the boy found the blob, he was assimilated into it. The boy symbolized 'free will'. Once the boy joined the blob, it was able to move, think and solve puzzles. Before, the blob was simply a collection of those mindless beings. With this theory in mind, it makes a bit more sense. Why would the boy willingly [keyword] venture into the factory to save an abomination and sacrifice himself to do so? It was the will of the blob; you, the player. Throughout the duration of the game, we were never told what the hell was going on, we just knew one thing; to keep going forward, to survive. So we are in the same boat as the boy, not knowing where we are going and why, until it all just hits you like a brick wall in the end. With the boy being assimilated into the blob, this reveals that his role as a character is no longer important, otherwise, he would have survived, right? The protagonist, if you would, of this game was the blob itself.

I reall iy like your theory and I think it's pretty much flawless. Yes there are a few anomolies in the game that leave us inferring all kinds of possibilities (the secret underground room in the cornfield and of course the shock wave level). One point you didn't mention (which backs up your theory that the whole game is a controlled experiment) is that towards the end of the hivemind's journey there is a point where it has to throw a box in the air to trigger a door opening. This is only possible if the box is first thrown up to a facility employee. He then pulls the boxes trigger and throws the box back to the gelatinous hivemind. As soon as the door opens the employee makes an ushering motion with his hands i.e "go on you fat blob, get moving, they're expecting you". When I replayed the game after watching your first video and noticed this I thought, "Damn Brett has NAILLED it". So hats off to you sir for such an elegant theory and wonderful insight into one of my fav games since Brothers.
@BloodxPledge8 жыл бұрын
Here's my one-cent theory:As shown in this ending, the boy is under the control of a computer. Considering that as soon as he disconnects the computer's power source under the player's command, leading to the game being unplayable, one can assume that the computer represents the player. With that in mind, it seems odd that the kid would even have set out on this quest. Why would we, the player, want the kid to go through all of that struggle and strife? Simple: we're also being manipulated into "playing" the game and going through the motions. In the end, we still have no control or freedom.Now, another point: why is the boy being attacked if they ultimately intended to help him once he joins the blob? Especially since they seem to want the blob to work? Because it's a subtle way of forcing you into progressing. When you play a game, you ultimately want to reach a conclusion, and to get to a conclusion, obstacles must be had. Their attacks are a way of forcing you through their manipulations once more. The entire game plays you. :)/// Might not make the most sense since my thoughts are quite unorganized. You could take away the idea that the game is a commentary on how we're lead around on a leash by games and their mechanisms, due to years of programming, but this is all just theoretical.

Did the player make the boy shut down the game? Were those computers the thing that controlled the boy? Without power the player can't control the boy, so he goes limp, and the game ends.

I copied and pasted all of this, what you gonna do?

Okay. Explain me one thing. How the hell you go back to the corn field from that laboratories which are miles away ? yeah you can play again but that makes no sense. the boy can't turn back in time or teleport so it is immpossible. Starting game from the beginning is just like another story in another time. So how?

Yeah I guess "You" are actually the gross blob thing at the end that was controlling all the zombies and parasites, and you were controlling the boy the whole time to come free you, so when you pull the plug that kills all the zombies it also kills the boy.

I don't even think it was a person in the back of the room, it looked more like one of those mind control helmets was hooked up to a bunch of cables. So maybe a computer program/AI, maybe? What also gets me that if the kid is also a remote body/"Zombie human", he seems to be a more refined version of them since his movements aren't jerky/puppet-like when under control compared to the others.
@luukvandenbroek50418 жыл бұрын
The Guy in the back with the hat and the computer screens is just a methaphore for the one who plays the game who controls the boy, pulling the plug on itself which ends the mind control but also the game itself. Its shows us that we control the boy the entire time and that he is also just some puppet.

@bbw_wild_wings4208 жыл бұрын
Do you not realize what this ending meant? The headgear was controlling the boy, completely turning a 180 for the entire experience. The way the boy was desperately unplugging the power could mean he was even self aware of the situation, like he's been through this before and wants to stop the cycle. He already has some sort of weird powers due to the water level puzzles later in the game where gravity doesn't seem to matter, so he could definitely have the power to know of the outcome. However due to him being controlled he can't do anything to stop it.
@D_Infamous_Boss8 жыл бұрын
Matthew Kuks Do you not realize that this explains absolutely nothing? What was that blob thing? Why were they looking at it? Why were they studying it? Why was everything flooded? Who was that lil' hairy thing trying to drown the boy? What were they looking for with that submarine? Were those other people clones or what? Why were they able to be controlled by the machine thing? Why was water flooding the ceiling? Those endings were stupid. I hope someday we find answers. Another question, why were those adults so harsh to the boy when they caught him?
@bbw_wild_wings4208 жыл бұрын
+Belly Blanks blob was humanity being lossed, people were studying it to learn from the 'outsider' that strayed away and lossed their humanity, the hairy thing was most likely doubt pulling him down which brought him to literally rock bottom (the light at the bottom could mean hope), everything was flooded to represent the damage the boy had made (mostly to himself, as others weren't affected by some of the floods), they were probably searching for their own hope with the submarine, the other people were people who conformed and did what they were told and made other conform as well (I mean most of the zombie guys that help you out were wearing hard hats and work attire), the machine controlling them was 'society' or 'the system', the flood on the ceiling probably represents a destructive answer to breaking away from society as it only reflected the boy running away and no one else but seemed beautiful and damaging at the same time. I got theories man, hope this helps out
@bbw_wild_wings4208 жыл бұрын
+Belly Blanks also I feel like those zombie guys helped you out because they saw you as inspiration, there's a moment were they literally follow you after you jump a gap and they all just mindlessly try to follow only to plummet down below.

Early in the game, somehow I had a hunch that the mind control helmets alluded to the fact that you, the player, are controlling the boy. This ending makes me think the player is the one being unplugged.
@zackster2448 жыл бұрын
I have my own theory, its similar than a lot of others but is differen't, the boy is another regular person in society being mind controlled by a higher power, manipulated in todays society, this boy is represented as you, all the other people that seemed to be mindless are everyday people, workers, all doing what they are told or in other words, manipulated by the mind, aka mind control, the people that werent being mind controlled and were normal people were all government workers, manipulating your every move, they told you to go a certain way, they even helped you go that way and you listened and followed their orders. You yourself were manipulated by the game, and even though you feel like you escaped (when the blob exits the facility) In the end you are still being controlled, and the only real way to stop being manipulated by todays government is to unplug yourself from society, don't do things for others, just do things for yourself and you will reach your full meaning of peace.

Not sure how many already know this, so: the sequence you need to unlock the ending is played after you dismantle the 13th orb. And I'm not sure I'm into the interpretations that the contraption on the chair represents us, the player. Those yellow orb cables go all through the game's world, the orbs extend antennas and play sounds and are ultimately connected in the last big orb. And the cables in this ending are yellow as well although you can't see to what they are connected. I don't know, I guess I don't see any immediate reason to take this symbolically. There seem to be enough things tying it to the ingame world.
@elena-px4bm4 жыл бұрын
I think it's saying that the helmet thing we see in the background is us, the player. ( Metaphorically ) and when the boy unplugged the wires, it was symbolising as though he was disconnecting our controller or mouse. He was wearing a "helmet" all along and we were the ones who was controlling him like how the boy did to the bodies we get to control.

After watching the secret ending I think I understand. The boy was probably called by the giant meatball to rescue him(I Think the giant meatball is the first experiment of mind control and He's the one controlling everybody but he is being controlled by humans but wishes to escape) And the boy is following whatever the meatball is telling him to do(rescue him and get OUTSIDE) maybe after the boy saved the meatball he was sent to end the mind controlling completely, the control of other people and your control on the player. Phew, Long Theory. and maybe the humans were hunting the boy not only because he escaped, maybe they knew the meatball is controlling him to come to his rescue and they tried to stop him.

Guys I have the BEST theory makes most sense. Ok so starting with the corporation/secret organization (the ones hunting you) have done many experiments in the past but one experiment they made was somehow to fuse humans combing they're intelligence and somehow develop mind control/telepathic abilities and created a being simply known to players as the blob or that big ball with like 20 limbs so some time later the corporation was greedy and
@daniodanio67738 жыл бұрын
decided to use the blobs special telepathic abilities to take over the world and pretty much turn everyone into a mindless slave zombie so the blob hated this action even though he was restrained by the corporation he was able to get one of the mindless slaves out of mind control (the boy you play as) by hacking into the corporation with his telepathic abilities and was somehow able to interact with one of those human controlling helmets (the thing you use to move the mindless slaves) the helmet was in a sort of secret underground tunnel where the blob was controlling him through the use of the
@daniodanio67738 жыл бұрын
computers and setup they're (you see all this in the secret ending) so the blob wanted to use the boy to infiltrate they're headquarters and free the blob so the corporation can't do anymore harm but when the blob and the boy escape they seem to be outside but in reality they're actually in a big dome like area just so the corporation makes sure it can use the blob for future use pretty much ends they're damn my head hearts
@ZZZZZZ-ek2pq8 жыл бұрын
What I got from unplugging all those uplinks is that you're disabling that blobs beacons. Those are what exert its influence through such a long range. I think this is the case because all those orbs are connected to yellow wires and so is the helmet you unplugged. As you gradually disconnect them, you're shortening it's range of control, when you finally turn of the last one, and go and completely disconnect the machine, the boy shuts down.
@kristijanmajstoric8 жыл бұрын
OMG I FIGURED IT OUT; OMG IT IS GENIUS, its like this, listen to me: some people say "we" the player, are controling the boy, some say the blob is controling the boy, both is right but not completely. if we, the player controled the boy, why would we lead it to free the blob and get sucked in, it doesnt make sense, WE, the player, ARE ACTUALY CONTROLED BY THE BLOB, to control, the boy, to lead it in the game to free it. WHY? cause in the secret ending, we lead the boy down the hatch through a tunnel to find a sole controling helm in front of computer monitors, and we unplug it, over the boy, we unplug OURSELF! Freing US as the PLAYER, from the blob. that helm in front of the monitors is representing us, the player, and we somehow by our own will battled from the blobs control, went down there and unpluged ourselves
