Inside 'Ambaari Utsav', Karnataka's new European-style sleeper bus | The Hindu

You can now travel in European-style air-conditioned sleeper buses from Bengaluru to other cities in Karnataka and neighbouring States.
Ambari Utsav is the newest addition to the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC)'s premier services, 15 such buses have been inducted so far.
They will operate on routes such as Bengaluru to Mangaluru and inter-State routes such as Bengaluru-Hyderabad, Bengaluru-Panaji, Bengaluru-Thiruvananthapuram and others.
The buses have been procured from Volvo, at a cost of ₹1.73 crore each.
Each bus has 40 sleeping berths with panoramic view windows. There is ample headroom, 2 USB ports, air vents, reading lights and a mobile holder.
This Volvo Multi-Axle Sleeper vehicle is 15 meters long. They are built on a strong Scandinavian design tradition of safety, environmental concern and quality.
The bus has enhanced stability and control with an electronic braking system including ABS, engine brake, hill start assist, integrated hydrodynamic retarder and Electronic Vehicle Stability Control (EVSC).

Wow. Top-notch. I'm from Hyderabad and travel to Bangalore twice a month. Although, TSRTC operates buses, they are inconvenient as seats are narrow and due to poor maintenance, travel is always a nightmare and hence, people opt for private buses. I did travel by KSRTC Airaavat and Ambari. These buses are clean and are punctual. Moreover, staff are very well groomed to respect their passengers. Buses are on-time too and with prices being less compared to TSRTC, KSRTC is the best choice for traveling to BLR. Good job :)

Karnataka RTC is great 👍. The buses are clean , staff courteous and they drive well. Recently travelled in Ambari utsav. They were doing a constant speed of 80-90 throughout.

I still remember back in 2018, I came to Banglore from Delhi, I had a function to attend in Mysore I booked KSRTC bus days before arriving and I still remember it was a white Scania bus. It was a comfortable and short journey. I enjoyed it.

Kudos to KSRTC for thinking to bring in swanky buses to match the private bus players and thinking of providing comfortable travel. Good to see newer comfortable and luxury transport operations are being developed in India to make travel more worthy and change the way of travel for Indians. South India in this respect is quite better with roads even in interiors in a better condition and with newer expressways coming up connecting major cities and towns, travel for people is going to be more cherishable. Hope the roads become even more better day by day. Sleeper buses are a good option because not everybody is comfortable sitting for long hours or sleeping in sitting mode. Only wish that the roads also become equally good day by day so that travel by buses become more safer and smooth. And there should always be control check on the speed of the buses as with new swanky look and technology as well mainly to reach quicker, the drivers tend to ignore safety rules and drive fast which are quite risky for the passengers.

Many people are opposed in this region to mindless expansion of roads. You can only add so many lanes to highways, it produces more traffic and induced demand. Railways on the other hand is comparatively less destructive. Can handle both passenger and freight traffic if done right. People of Malnad region will benefit if we can sell our produce to both Mangalore and Bangalore.

It's Volvo 9600 and launched in India in Sep 2022 in its Bangalore factory. KSRTC was the 1st to adopt it in India. And how can you travel 3-4 years in a bus that launched in Sep 2022. KSRTC is my favorite road transport corporation and I used it extensively during 2007-2023 period. They have constantly upgraded and maintained high quality. I appreciate KSRTC's professionalism and wish you more heights in future. My feedback is genuine, not for hurting any feelings, and intended for future improvement. Donot take it negatively, if you do, it is none of my business. I traveled twice last week to and from Ernakulam to Bangalore. I got the last lower double berths. The driving and bus design is good, but the beds with built in pillows are all in plastic and the staff still keep that cheap New plastic covers also. For the last lower berths at the back, The bed was too hot since the insulation from engine noise is very bad. AC was on fan and it was so hot. Engine noise is horrible at the back and i can’t believe Volvo has done this kind of cabin insulation. Overall, a forgettable experience if you are choosing the last lower berths. Overall 8/10 is my rating.

Ambaari Utsav (9600) is not much different from Ambaari dream Class (9400 I guess), from a passenger perspective. What I felt is that, the AC is less cold compared to Ambaari dream class sleeper (travelled twice in this bus). The tickets are 200 Rs costlier w.r.to Ambaari Dream Class. Did not feel any different from Ambaari dream class, other than some cosmetic changes. Don't remember if Dream class had the lumbar support or not.
