Yeah, I rembering when I was a kid, Toys R Us had a pretty big and decent video game/electronics selection. During the peak of skylanders, Toy's R Us was jam packed with them

I miss the 80's and 90's stores. KB toys , Toys R Us , Radio Shack , Circuit City , Good Guys , Suncoast , EB games , Blockbuster , etc.

In the 80's I remember our Toys R' Us in Jacksonville FL. had its own building and parking lot, like Walmart. As a kid, it felt huge looking up at the isles filled with toys! 🤩

I'm both happy and sad seeing this. It's sad because I remember Toys R Us being the absolute best thing as a kid and I remember how popular it was, and it's sad to see that there's only 1 real store around. On the other hand, I'm happy to see that it's still there in some form. Hoping they're able to grow again so kids across the country can experience the pure joy of a trip to Toys R Us again. Edit: as far as the video games go, they don't really market them the same way they did before online gaming became big. Back in the 90's when I was growing up, the packaging and marketing for video games was colorful and fun and everything had physical copies because there was no online gaming yet (except very niche PC stuff). There were also huge sections of strategy guides, Nintendo power, etc that used to be big too. Not to mention there wasn't really a good way to keep track of game releases outside of paying a subscription to Nintendo Power or EGM or something along those lines, so when you went to the store you'd peruse the selection of games looking for something interesting every time you went. I think for video games today, the whole idea of physical copies is starting to go away, magazines and strategy guides are gone because we have the internet (which is totally not as fun), and we have more access to news about new releases and don't really have a need to go looking through the shelves. So it kinda makes sense that they didn't dedicate space to that. It's not worth it anymore.

yeah in finland i remember barbie shelves being made like cave, a barbie cave filled with barbies. the marketing and putting toys into shelf in early 2000s was made with more thoughtful way, kind of in kids perspective

I live in Michigan We still have a Toy R Us in Windsor Canada. For us its only a 30 minute drive. Its sad where are all the kids?? So many kids just look at tablets or phones, no wonder this world is so screwed up

I remember the Toys "R" Us stores in Parsippany, NJ and Jensen Beach, FL. I also went to the Toys "R" Us in Rockaway, NJ.

Toys"R"Us was awesome. It was everywhere in the USA. When it closed nationwide in 2018, it lost its market niche. Where I live, KB toys also closed. Walmart took over the toy market. Walmart gets lots of business for Christmas toys. Thank you for the memories.

I used to live 15 minutes away from a toys r us before it closed, glad to see that toys r us still exists! (American dream mall is little over an hour away from where I live now)

Honestly this is pretty sweet. While its not the "warehouse" style, there was a TRU that was open back in Santa Monica, CA near 3rd St Promenade many years ago that sort of had this style of multi-floor setup, so this actually isnt too far off of a layout that they have had in the past for some of their stores. When I saw what the mini-stores were in Macy's, I checked out on that immediately. Hardly any space for inventory and most of the product seemed old. This is all stuff that I would LOVE to see at a Walmart/Target/etc, but is never there. So I consider that a win! If you live near this, consider yourself lucky. I'd love it if they could slowly get to a point where we see more of these stand alone TRUs again in the future.

My first job was at TRU from 2012-2014 and again from 2016 till it closed and theses store are great but its a shadow of its former self especially the small stores in Macy's my section specialty was action/dolls and "R zone" (electronics) i miss it genuinely and would gladly go back.

I’m surprised to see this toys r us has the lasted waves for the Jakks Pacific Sonic The Hedgehog figures, usually people in the like me in the US & UK are constantly struggling to find them in stores like Target, Smyths & the entertainer since they seem to only carry 1 assortment but here it’s about 2-3 which is shocking for some people who are used to with dealing with 1 assortment

This store did seem to have plenty of stock. Probably because it's a "flagship" store and they don't want to have any empty shelves.

im old enough to remember that in the video game section at toys r us, there was a wall of pictures of all the games. underneath each picture was an envelope with multiple tickets of the game. you take a ticket and bring it to the video game only cashier. they scan it, you pay, and they give you the game. it worked out well until there were more tickets than video games, and you got your hopes up when you saw and grabbed a ticket and wait in line only for the cashier to tell you theyre out of stock. i miss that.

Reading along the lyrics on the stairs … it’s hard not to feel a lil tug on the heart strings reminiscing way back to a time when life was so carefree. The Toys R Us over there is definitely not the same as the ones from back in the day but there is no way we can expect any toy store from the 80s-90s to really have the same look n feel in 2023 lol

Back before the Internet, Saturday morning cartoons in the 80s and 90s helped drive toy sales. I know it influenced my toy list and wants. Now there’s just a huge supply of on hand media and tech. Sitting in front of the tv waiting for cartoons to come on isn’t it anymore. Hopefully Toys R Us can make a comeback of sorts

No thanks, this store is laid out like chaos… like an American Girl or one of those new oversized candy stores with waaaaay too much of the same colors. The art and images on the boxes just blend into each other. Back in the day…When you saw a gi joe section or a transformers section, you knew immediately from down the aisle…

What happened in Canada is that the US Toys r us was the parent company of all the Canadian locations but when they filed for bankruptcy they sold all their Canadian locations and the naming rights in Canada to Fairfax Financial which in turn went and sold it to Doug Putman who is a Canadian billionaire that also owns Sunrise Records. So Toys R us Canada operates completely independently from the US company now.

There are a lot of things in that store that aren't the things kids are currently hyped about, but are more expensive collectibles for nostalgic adults. That is not a healthy place for the toy market, it's the same place that comic books have ended up. It is absolutely possible to get more kids in the door and excited to be there, it just needs a back-to-basics, staff-empowerment approach like how Waterstones and Barnes & Noble were turned around.

It's not in a freestanding building, but it is standalone in that it's not in a Macy's or other store. Every other Toys R Us is basically just the toy department in Macy's.
