Hey everybody! Really appreciate all of the kind words in the comments, we are so glad that everybody is enjoying the video. I wanted to address the most common question that is coming up in the comments, and that is how Glendon got utilities up to the house. Glendon sent the following note to share with you guys: "Installing services was a major challenge. After the crash course in mountaineering, I did most of this work myself bolting pipes and conduits every 10 feet along a fissure in the cliff. The property has a 360 foot deep well at the bottom of the cliff. Water is pumped up 560 feet to a 2,500 gallon storage tank located at house level. Sewage flows down-hill through a 3-inch DWV pipe to a septic system. High voltage and low voltage electrical as well as propane run through PVC conduits attached to structs embedded in a crack in the rock."

It's incredible he could do this for the amount he paid, but that's only because he put so much sweat equity into the project. That house would sell for Millions now.

I really don't believe it cost only $1.7m. Aside from the material cost though, who has 10+ years not working for someone else to pursue their own dream project? Definitely a cool house, but only a possibility for someone who's fallen into a LOT of money. Good for this guy for having both the means and the vision in the same lifetime.
@willcookmakeup27 күн бұрын
@skotski I agree the cost sounds way too low. I mean just in labor and permitting costs you're looking at well over $700k. And then materials and hooking up to power to this location, and then just given how high quality and the finishes of them home, I would expect that to be at least a million. Just on its own. But it was also constructed over many many years and he did a large majority of the metal work himself. And after that many years I'm sure he formed many close relationships with builders which made costs lower. But even with all of that, for this to be under a 3 or 5 million dollar build at cost is wild to me. Property value, very different story. Now that it's build and established, I'm sure if he put it on the market it would go for at minimum 15 mil

Solar home with 35’ rafters etc. I was all alone working all day at my job and then right over to the house to keep working. I dug the foundation hole with a pick and shovel and built the forms myself. I took apart the forms when I was done and used that lumber on the house. 7 days a week every single night till 2:00 am then off to work for my day job. It was all worth it and I’m proud I was able to build a home for my family. I’ve sinced sold the home and moved to a tiny home for retirement and now I guess I wait for the end. Not really. That's the best kind of victory, being able to throw it in the faces of naysayers. The man that built this house lives by his own rules too, I doubt he considered it a lonely victory but I suppose anything is possible.
@PegasusGT-z1z22 күн бұрын
Humans are such simpletons. To have this kind of victory just to throw it in the faces of naysayers. It's the naysayers that give rise to people performing extraordinary feats. In the end it's all vanity though. A sane mind is the only thing that matters. Living for naysayers is exhausting. None are FREE when they live this way. There's a reason mental health is in decline all around the world. Humans are vain creatures. All the greatness of man's accomplishments is but a blink of an eye in time. Anyone else resonate with this perspective and see this build as just another build? Nothing more, nothing less.
